Its funny how nobody could actually describe trap.
"it's a type of underground music in Chengdu" got me especially sad
come on they are just passerby , what do are you expecting 😂
@@kickfloeb translation isnt precise, what he said is actually means "in chengdu, trap music is minority and underground "
how would you describe trap? Is it 808s and mixed with hip-hop genre?
@@jasonmason6910 Trap music is about the lifestyle of getting money in the HOOD. Drug money, gangbanging and all the things that come with it. Poor ppl have to sell drugs and gangbang because lack of educational and economic oppurtunties in their community. Even though its a losing game in the end as you typically end up dead or in jail but you still gotta eat. IE a TRAP.

A Chinese man, in China, with dreadlocks.
I've seen it all.
if you think that's special, you obviously haven't seen much at all
Look up history of dreadlocks before you make such stupid comments. People wore dreadlocks even in India for the longest time.
Jamaica has a large population of Chinese and their cultures merge together don’t be surprised to see a Chinese with dreads down there at least.
Yas Gasovna if two different ethnicities merge culture wtf else are they going to do? It’s inevitable dumbass. Chinese didn’t immigrant to Jamaica by their own free will either they were brought as workers with the Africans to the islands .
Dude had braids not dreadlocks
They have to separate the meaning of "trap" from real American trap music. China is hard on any Western influences. The country has gone as far as banning rap on television, as well as visible tattoo, earrings or anything else that may be related to hip hop culture, such as graffiti. So separating any negative connotations is necessary to avoid too much government attention. Just like the guy said at the beginning, a video about rap caused the government to come down hard on them. That being said, I don't think most of them know how trap music originated anyway. China tends to like the culture, but not the people who actually made it.
Good point, i didnt think about that
Hold up...American trap? You mean African American trap ✌🏾
Facts💯
Still black american culture any way you slice it "trap" originates in the southern hiphop culture period
What's trap?? Trap.. It's music.. You know what I'm saying.. It's lifestyle.. You know what I'm saying...
No. I don't know what you saying. 😑😂😂
But it IS a music style AND a lifestyle. If you don't get that, you're just bagging on how they speak -- not because what they said didn't make sense.

@Champ Life Nope, my dear friend. The Triple 6 Mafia created it.
I feel like he wants to explain something but have no enough vocabulary to explain it. It makes him sound stupid :(
ka boom!! 哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈!yes yes !哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈
Why is it so hard to explain? The trap is a dead end street where the drugs and ho's are at, if you're selling drugs there you're "trappin'". The trap house is the abandoned house nearby where the dope is stored and cooked up. They're all over Atlanta and got made popular by rappers like Big Boi, Jeezy and T.I. and is closely related to the Houston and Memphis rap scenes. The musical side got popular with big heavy bass and rolling hi hats.

@@djwestbrook36 Idk about black people, but a lot of Asians above 35 are highly reactionary to darker skin colors. It's the most common in Asian countries that have certain roots in Sino-centric culture (chinese), where the whiter one's skin is, the more beautiful they are perceived to be. It's something that evolved over hundreds of years, if not a thousand, which is why poor people are perceived to be darker skinned, while rich, famous, or powerful people have "fairer" skin. Trap is a word used to describe "trap houses", where people would get trapped doing drugs, usually crack.
Trap music, originally, was music that described drug/party scenarios, usually in the form of hip hop and rap.
Now, trap is about anything, and has a very defined high hatty, clicky beat.

People who are triggered about cultural appropriation probably have some random ass Chinese tattoo on their arm that they don’t even know the meaning of. Let them have fun with the genre because that’s what music is about
Cultural appropriation only exists in the minds of some Americans. Please don't bring that nonsense to the rest of the world. I don't understand why you're not allowed to be influenced and enjoy other cultures. What's next? Not being allowed to enjoy foreign quisine?
@Champ Life not necessarily..........................that's some bad logic right there
@Champ Life Your world has to be very small if you limit yourself to your own cultural bubble. Grow up.
@Champ Life So... You can ''appreciate'' it, but you can't wear, listen to, eat or style your hair a certain way because that would somehow be 'stealing'? Do you realise how unlogical that sounds to a non-American(and sane Americans alike)? Shut up. It's about who doesn't best not first
Trap music isn't called trap because of the verb 'to trap'. It's because it came from drug dealers who work in trap houses. Now that is a reference to the verb 'to trap' as the term does mean it traps people, because everyone who comes to the house gets trapped there, because of their addiction. Now that the music has moved international and isn't directly related to stacks, rubber bands, whipping, or any other drug paraphernalia, it's lost its meaning. But that is the origin of the term trap music.
@@Steven19886 How so?
Even tho these guys don't really know what Trap means but they deserve our utter respect. As someone who is born in China I know it is extremely difficult to pursue a music career not only the little chance of success but also the enormous social pressures from their Asian parents and other relatives. They are really brave to be able to stand out from the ordinary in order to do what they love to do, especially from an Asian culture. Respects...
I give them props, cause I'm hella sure many think they are wasting their time doing this and the fam might think their crazy. However, I respect and LOVE all creative people so Respect and big ups to em all.

About the seeming cultural ignorance of some of these people:
Of course, there are MANY pretentious idiots in China who are hopelessly trying to ride the wave of popular foreing, i.e. Western, cultural phenomena, albeit apparently having no meaningful understanding of it at all. But this I think is very much rooted in the total lack of a substantial youth culture and sub-cultural identity there, society just doesn't leave a lot of room for that. There are some very interesting underground communites in Chinese cities, particularly Chengdu, Wuhan or Shanghai, which I think have zestful scenes with very creative and seriously impressive people, but they suffer a lot of repercussions from society and from the authorities. And even worse, once some of these things experience enough of a popularity boom they become ruthlessly commercialised - and this is what happened to Hip Hop in China in recent years, too - it becomes a big, harmless show and an even bigger business for a clueless K-Pop loving mainstream audience, that has no deep connection to any of this, drained of authenticity and realness. Because many young people experience subculture merely as a media phenomenon without "living" it, it is no wonder you will find a lot of clueless wannabes.
However, for all I see and care about, these Chengdu-based artists are the coolest thing when it comes to Chinese Hip Hop, and I don't even like Trap that much, but Higher Brothers are pretty good, and I hope they can evolve on that and continue to create their own identity and style, inspiring more people to break out of this desert of dullness that is Chinese mainstream pop culture and lifestyle. 加油兄弟们!
G
Yeah i have very little patience for the people bitching about it too. Black people in the US have been hella racist to Asians, co opted and disrespected parts of their culture in media even specifically in rap. lil pump obviously the most recent one. For Black Americans to say kinda racist things about and make fun of white people is totally fair lol I have no complaint, but to apply that logic about race relations in the US to the entire world is really dumb and reflects serious ignorance (which is true of all Americans). Hypocrisy isn’t a good look. That being said racism and xenophobia in China is certainly a problem. It was hard for me to tell how much of it was just genuine extreme ignorance vs actual ideas of genetic supremacy since I don’t really speak Chinese. I asked some ppl and they never wanted to be upfront about it but as far as I could tell they like black Americans and black westerners, but they don’t like African immigrants that are poor at least, and they’re likely to assume anyone black is African not American. My impression was moreso ignorance and xenophobia vs actual racism but idk.
And more to your point specifically, it’s not like wu tang clan was really deeply knowledgeable about Chinese history culture and struggles lol. And that’s fine, it was still cool, I don’t think that was seen as offensive by Chinese ppl at large. There’s religious rock music and foreign rock music and all kinds that only really share the actual sound of the music not a culture. That’s great, not a problem.
Woaw that was some really interesting comments
@@Unclejamsarmy They also don't say shit when Nicki Minaj came out with Chun Li . Kanye West, Lil Wayne, J. Three six mafia is from Memphis that’s why I included it. Anyways I also think that the language barrier is why they don’t know that much about the early days I mean they know some English words but probably wouldn’t understand a documentary about hip hop or some other type of digging into the roots. It’s harder to learn about this if you aren’t a native speaker
Arab Trappers true, but 36 was new school
