This is a remarkable performance. It is rare that technical excellence, facility of performance and profound comprehension of the material in question can all be found in one place, but here it is. While I prefer to allow the prelude a little more breath between phrases, there are no tempo markings on Bach preludes. That leaves room for interpretation, and this is a great one, regardless of one's preconceived idea of proper tempo. Well done Eugen--masterful!
Magnifique : I love your way of playing that piece of J.S. Bach : no hammer or pulling off, very fluid. No extra left hand noise, and above all a very good interpretation !
Fantastic! Superb! The fugue section was breath-taking! Congrats! I like a little more space or silence between phrases to let the music sink in a bit and prepare the listener for what’s coming next but that’s just a matter of taste.
It is so rare for someone to make all the interwoven tunes in the presto stand out. I always failed at this piece, I am afraid. You do it brilliantly. I am jealous!
He does an amazing job. I would even argue that he has the best live video versions of the BWV 996 on UA-cam. No one else gets as close as he does to nailing it. Those open string embellishments and lightning fast scalar passages are killer!!!!
definitivamente la mejor interpretacion de esta pieza en youtube, excelente te felicito algunos pasajes tienen la sonoridad el clavicordio muy dificil de crear en la guitarra.
Hi John, his nails sound buff to me! And 600 grade which you recommend is still pretty rough! Nice job Eugen! You're right, he does have chops and then some! - Michael -
Let me first qualify by saying that I could not play this piece with the skill that you do. However, from a music listener's standpoint, it felt a little bit rushed like you could have felt the phrases a little slower.
oh i like his playing too, he just needs to get grade 600 sand paper or finer and polish his nail over and over; that might eliminate the ''nail clicking,'' and i would slow it down just a tad its obvious he's got chops and then some . . .
There are various great books you can buy for these songs. A great book that many guitarists use is "J. S. Bach: The Solo Lute Works 2nd Edition, ed. by Frank Koonce". It will guide you with some great fingerings and a history of the instrument and music. The book shows some authentic lute arrangements and as well as the modern guitar arrangements. Wish you good luck!
Nur so sollte dieses Stück gespielt werden. Einfach genial. ❤
His name is Eugen Drabynka...I studied with him in Darmstadt (Germany) in the class of Tilman Hoppstock. Always loved his playing and still do...
Those ornaments at 1:52! Wow!
Wow, all of them! And wow, the rest as well ! Outstanding performance !
