The card suit symbolism goes with the Alice in Wonderland theme Penacony has going on.
The ancestor cards to spades in Tarot is *swords* and they symbolize air, intellect, conflict, communication, and knowledge. I don't believe in Tarot, but I do like the aesthetic of it.
