If I had the opportunity, I would give you a gold medal for the most widely travelled temporary residents of the UK. Great driving and a beautiful video!
100% agree, and what a lovely couple they are!😊
Yes, probably seen more of the UK than most brits
Well we are honored by that. We do our best. Cheers, Chris
I love Snake Pass it is so beautiful.
Sometimes it takes an "outsider" to remind us how beautiful and varied the country we are so fortunate to live in truly is and my sincere thanks for that.
Oh, friend, we love it here, and thank you for sharing your time with us. 🤍 Jess x
As a ex RAF veteran I would like to say that I have enjoyed all your vlogs, and most of all I have enjoyed how you have loved my country you have also made me more appreciative of my own country!
I fully appreciate the difficulties of being posted overseas with a family and making it into and enjoyable adventure as you have and involving local people in your travels makes it so interesting. My last posting was 52 years ago and had there been vlogging in those days I am sure I would have been a keen as you. Thank you for so many shared and happy experiences and enjoying this beautiful country. stay safe XX.
Thank you for your service, it may have been a few years since you served, but we still appreciate what you did. it it would have been interesting to see how vlogging back then compared to what it is now. Cheers, Chris
No matter what the weather, rain, wind, sunshine you always find the positives, just love joining you on your drives, thankyou to a beautiful happy couple
We do our best. Cheers, Chris
This reminds me of driving between Manchester and Sheffield every Wednesday back in the 80s during my clubbing days. It really is a beautiful road, but it’s not for the faint hearted during the bad winter months.
We landed at Manchester airport in December 1986. Picked up the rental car and decided to take snake pass once we discovered that it was open. As we arrived in Sheffield we heard on Radio Hallam that Snake Pass was now closed due to heavy snow
...and the woodhead pass. Scary in the night in winter
It would have been a completely different story if the weather was bad. Cheers, Chris
Living here in The Pennines (Halifax), I travel to the Alps & Pyrenees for epic😊.
Snake Pass, Holme Moss, Saddleworth Moor & Wuthering Heights are just home (normal).
The beauty goes unnoticed 99.9% of the time, it's just your commute from birth.
Thank you for the fresh eyed, drive through 😊
We can see how it is something that you become accustomed to, but it is a great place to see everyday. Cheers, Chris
You want a lovely drive, go to Chapel-en-le-frith, take the A6 towards Buxton then turn left onto the A623, you come to a small village called Sparrowpit, take the left hand road round The Olive Tree then follow the signs for Castleton, Hope and Hope Valley. At Hope Valley at the lights turn left towards Bamford and Ladybower reservoir and rejoin the A57. Take my word for it, you will not be disappointed.
Sounds like a great recommendation. Cheers, Chris
I'll have to look at the map too. Did a great cycle ride through the Goyt Valley not far from Buxton. The A6 is a grand road.
Jess commented 'as I get older I appreciate nature much more,' and I can confirm that, in my personal experience that feeling continues to intensify into old age. The simple things in life are so underrated, and that video with, not only the landscape but also the skyscape (is that a word ?), which was so dominant on that day, so moody, yet also so beautiful was testament to that truth. Chris and Jess, you really have a special talent which comes through in these videos. Cheers ! Sheffield South Yorkshire.
Thank you for the kind words. We truly appreciate it and enjoy being able to showcase all the things and places we see. Cheers, Chris
I have to say you guys have really gone above and beyond in exploring the UK ,here you are on a road I love to ride on anytime of the year , enjoy the views 😊it takes my breath away every time ,and not from the colder temperatures you feel on the motorcycle as you get on the top of the moors ,I love my north of England so much ❤
Friend, thank you for coming along. I'm sure a ride on a motorcycle would be such a wonderful experience. We appreciate your time spent with us. 🤍 Jess x
whilst you are in the area, take a trip between Macclesfield and Buxton along the "cat and fiddle" road. Also along with Snake Pass, there is also Woodhead pass. That part of the UK you are in is stunningly beautiful.
Cracking video! It seems you can't escape sheep 🐑. I think you should have some on your homestead when you are settled 😉 Denise Lancashire UK
Denise,
Thank you so much for the Super Thanks! We had a lovely time exploring somewhere new to us. We're so glad you enjoyed coming along, friend! That's true sheep are all over this beautiful country and I love it. I'm sure we will have sheep on our homestead to remind me of all of the sheep here. 🤍 Jess & Chris x
The Peak District is a ramblers paradise lots of open land and rugged terrain as far as the eye can see. Kinder Scout is a very popular area. It's got lots of valleys, plateaus to climb, rock formations and a waterfall etc. Popular with photographers too naturally
That sounds like a great recommendation. We will try and check that out. Cheers, Chris
In my youth I used to get up early on a Sunday morning in Holmfirth and ride my 1979 Triumph Bonneville as fast as I could from Holmfirth, Holme Moss, Glossop, Snake Pass, The Srtines and back to Holmfirth. No speed cameras then.
Good lad
Sounds like a good time on a nice bike. Cheers, Chris
You're describing my old favourite places where I learned to drive, when I was studying in Huddersfield Polytechnic. Good times ❤. I proposed to my gf in Holme Moss viewpoint car park.
I'm lucky enough to live in Glossop and feel extremely fortunate to wake up to such wonderful scenery. Beautiful 😊
Me too mate!
lovely place Glossop my dad lived there
Hyde! 😁
Me too!
Seems like a great place to call home. Cheers, Chris
Love these videos, though I live in the UK I can’t get out much any more and some of them are like wonderful memories being brought back to life.
We are glad we can bring you out with us. Cheers, Chris
My partner and I run a sandwich van on the Snake Pass. We used to have the trout fishermen come in to cook their catch! Layby looking over the ladybower!
Been for a butty and a cuppa a few times on my bike. Good snap 👍
@@WHITEROSEREBEL maybe someone else is there now. We worked there for 10 years from 1993
Snake Pass is a lovely drive. I had forgotten how beautiful it is. If you have not done it already you should try Hard Knott Pass in the Lake District. It is even better in my opinion with some stunning views of the lakes. Be aware though it is not for the feint hearted and the road is not as easy as Snake Pass. It is single track mostly or at least it was when I last did it.
It is on our list for sure. We just need to make the time for that. Cheers, Chris
When my mother was a teenager she would cycle along Snake Pass. She said that, on occasions, she did not need to cycle up the hill, the wind was so strong that she was blown along. Of course, there were also times when she had to cycle downhill.
Wow, thank you so much for sharing about your mother. 🤍 Jess x
Currently Derbyshire County Council is finding it financially difficult to maintain this road and it says that Sheffield/South Yorkshire and Manchester/Greater Manchester should be contributing towards the upkeep. The road is a lovely drive but it is built on difficult terrain. Part of it was closed for years due to structural problems. It is often closed in winter due to snow. There are only two straight routes between Sheffield and Manchester, one is the Snake Pass the other is Woodhead. Manchester does link with Sheffield via motorways but it's much further and far less scenic. Yes, sheep do wander onto both Woodhead and The Snake passes.
A landslip is a less dramatic form of a landslide. A landslide occurs rapidly but land slippage is gradual.
It is spectacular in late summer when the heather is out, the hills become purple.
We can see why they are discussing closing the road. Hopefully, they do not, but glad we could see it regardless. Cheers, Chris
The Woodhead isn't a straight route Between Sheffield & Man chester, you have to travel North up the M1 from Sheffield & then West just South of Barnsley
Wow. The Snake Pass looks amazing. However - I was even more blown away by the beauty of the winter sky. That was something else. Great vlog 😊
It was indeed. Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers, Chris
The B29 ‘Bleaklow Bomber’ crash site features the remains of a U.S. air force Superfortress aircraft, which crashed in November 1948 during a routine domestic flight between bases within the UK. It is at a remote location on the moorland plateau of the Snake Summit just off the A57 Snake pass...
And the local mountain rescue team ensure there is always a US flag flying there 🇺🇸
I've been there, I live locally and walked there once. It's so sad to think of what happened. Tragic.
That would have been a really good one to check out. We might have to make a separate trip to check that out. Cheers, Chris
Well you are such a beautiful couple and it’s nice to see someone from another country appreciate the beauty of the U.K.
Oh, thank you! We truly appreciate your kindness. This opportunity has been such a blessing!
They built a road in the 1800s at the bottom of Mam Tor, in the Peak District, but that area is bad for landslides. And in the 1970s, one big one completely wrecked it. Now it is just a destroyed road that is being reclaimed by nature. Its become become popular with bikers. It's the A625 road. So that big section that was meant to bypass the mountainous area is just completely abandoned. You go through Winnats Pass now instead
shivering mountain are yes i remember it well ,cracken edge at chinley aswell a good yomp and the henry royce mon at lantern pike.did it as kids in the 70s
Winnats Pass sounds like a good one. Cheers, Chris
You are not just two average people. You are so much more than that. Credit where it is due. What a team and when you leave you will be sorely missed.
i collected my newer car from north of peaks, could easy just on motorway but i decided to zig zag south through the peaks north to south and wow a stunning drive. it was after a lot rain so roads were for sure not best and looking forwards to return as i plan to go that way again on my way up to western and very north isles of Scotland a 3-4 week road trip and think about 7 ferry trips what should be interests and vising most north west isles they have some outstanding beaches and so remote really looking forward to that after risk frost has ended. for sure looking at a return to peaks when spring is arriving
What a lovely video and commentary. My fave road in the uk. Thank-you for making such a respectful video of it and both your voices are very soothing.
The Snake and the Woodhead, always first to close when snow arrives. Looked like you got a nice soft day with those beautiful skies though. Always great to see some old haunts...thanks as taking us along, it's always a pleasure! Happy 2yr YT anniversary ;)
It was a beautiful day out for sure. Thanks for the anniversary mention. Cheers, Chris
Wow, my back yard and one of my favourite roads (A57). That heather on the moors up at the top is purple in the spring/summer and you ended just before Ladybower reservoir where the Dambusters practiced dropping the bouncing bomb during WWII, They do a flyover every year.
Travelled this road every day for eighteen months and never saw the beauty, until you told me, fresh eyes and all that. It has its own beauty in a snowstorm, that scared the life out of me, and I stil remember it, great vid and great arial shots
Thank you for riding along with us. We love exploring this beautiful slice of heaven! 🤍 Jess x
More of you guys in the Peak District would be fab. There are so many awesome drives with breathtaking views. Thank you as always
We still would like to get in a couple more visits. Cheers, Chris
A lovely relaxing video and drone footage. I can't believe how you get to travel around so much. I t great to see that they have planted trees in the pass. It will certainly help to prevent flooding in the future.
Glad you enjoyed the video and drone footage. We agree about the trees helping the flooding. Cheers, Chris
It's probably the most closed road in Britain is Snake Pass.
Oh, interesting. 🤍 Jess x
I moved up to a place just outside Buxton 21 years ago - and I *STILL* look around me, on some days, and can hardly believe what I see, and the magical landscape which is now my home.
It is a great place to take in and enjoy. Cheers, Chris
You should drive the "Bealach na Ba "on the west coast of Scotland. Also, "Wrynose Pass and Hardknott Pass" in the Lake District.
Fantastic, we appreciate your recommendations, friend! We will definitely try and drive them. 🤍 Jess x
As an avid viewer of your adventures may I say that I am so pleased you chose to tour my homeland. You were so unlucky not to see the RAF Typhoons flying through the pass while training. Makes you jump a bit when you're not expecting them.
That would have been amazing to see something like that during the pass. It would have made it that much better. Cheers, Chris
We stayed in a pub overnight along the pass a few years ago, but I have heard it's unfortunately shut down now. I was hoping we would get snowed in for a week and have to stay there but alas as it was April the weather was fine! You have seen more of this country than lots of people born here, so glad you are enjoying it and have made some nice memories to take back home with you.
That is unfortunate that the pub shut down. Hopefully it was a good stay while you were there. Cheers, Chris
Many years ago, I stayed with my former partner for a couple of weeks in Hathersage, and I completely agree with you. The Snake Pass, Ladybower Reservoir and Derwent Valley are absolutely breathtaking areas :)
We loved exploring the area. Thank you for coming along with us. 🤍 Jess x
Thank you for letting me see the snake pass I lived in Yorkshire and the radio used to say the snake pass is closed because it had started snowing. I hadn't a clue how beautiful it is a tip for you guys check out the peak district it's similar seanery
You were lucky to get the opportunity to drive on this scenic route. The Council has said that it wants to ban all vehicles because the cost of maintenance is too high.
Hopefully, they can figure out how to keep it open. 🤍 Jess x
Thanks for the drive over snake pass .brought back happy memories. Wishing you all the best.
Glad you enjoyed it. All the best to you and yours as well. Cheers, Chris
Spring - Autumn all the bikers are out exploring and it's an awesome ride
Sounds like a great ride. Cheers, Chris
Great to see you enjoying some beautiful places in the North of England. Keep 'em coming.
Will do! Cheers, Chris
I used to have to drive over the Snake Pass and back a couple of times a night for work. You really need your wits about you driving over it in the dark but I loved doing it. I think they have closed it now for repairs ( you saw the land slips ). Lovely video.
Night time during this drive would be completely different. Cheers, Chris
Hiya Jess and Chris, hope you are all well my friends. From the first second to the last your beautiful vlogs are visually stunning 😊
The views that you capture always make me think that they should be turned into jigsaw puzzles, that's just the way my mind works 😅. I really enjoy how adding the drone footage completes the picture of the peak district surroundings so perfectly, thanks Chris 👍. Have a super Sunday, take care and best wishes my friends. ❤ x😊
Stephen,
We are so happy you enjoyed this fun drive with us. Really love that idea to turn it into a jigsaw puzzle! It would be so fun to share our memories with you all.
Thank you for always being such a wonderful support!
Chris is getting so wonderful at getting these drone shots! Happy Sunday 🤍 Jess & Chris x
When the snow hits there it can get tretchorous although certainly beautiful.
That would be a different bit of difficulty for sure. Cheers, Chris
A628 woodhead pass next to it from Glossop is also an epic drive. It's busier than snake but a HGV route much to the displeased living in mottram.... still a bugger in winter tho . Glossop gets a foot of snow every year in winter. At least it did in my 14 years living there.
Not so much in glossop itself now sadly. We had a foot or so of snow regularly for the first couple of years we lived in glossop back around 2008, but since then, we have had very little in the valley that is glossop itself. The hills still get a good cover :)
Sounds like a good one. Thanks for the recommendation. Cheers, Chris
The Woodhead road has some good views to. Unfortunately you do get a lot of wagons on it that go slow on the inclines. The Reservoirs are quite a view
My other half says he prefers Woodhead pass.. stunning views of the reservoir
That sounds like a good one to return to. Cheers, Chris
@ A bit of WW2 history to those reservoirs. They were used For Lancasters to practice dropping Barnes Wallace's "Bouncing bomb" which took out the Ruhr Dams in Germany in 43' in the Dam Buster raid. There's a You tube of the anniversary with a Lancaster flying over the res's recently
If you haven't already, you should drive along the 'Honister Pass' (B5289) in the Lake district. It's at the bottom of a valley and if you park up and get out of your car, the sound quality is eerie. Almost like being in a sound proof room. Parts of it, near to the old slate mine, look almost like a Lunar landscape. It's occasionally got a stream that crosses the road and maybe sheep in the fields. It's a lovely drive.
Thank you for the recommendation! 🤍 Jess x
@DaydreamersBound I hope that you manage to get there, I'd love to see your video.
Hiya , wonderful , ty so much for sharing this trip , i have been on this road twice but it was early morning and dark both times as i was taking an early flight from Manchester so i did not get to see this beauty , i plan to do a run on my Motorcycle in the summer , very much looking forward to that . Take care .
Thank you for sharing your time with us. We really appreciate you 🤍 Jess x
Hard to believe that when the rocks of the Pennines were laid down, England was just south of the Equator, where the Amazon rain forest is now, 300 million years ago. They were shaped into mountains 65 million years ago when the asteroid wiped out the dinos. The mountains have been eroding every since into these rolling hills.
It is wild to think about what it was and how it got the way it is today. Cheers, Chris
This video got me excited - while I work in Manchester, the start of your video is like 5 minutes from my house. Enjoy your future travels!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Cheers, Chris
It seems the majority of the forest around Snake Pass is planted, harvested, replanted, in an attempt to stabilise the soil and prevent the landslips you were talking about.
The thing about this particular "moorland" is that the so called soil is there due to thousands of years of vegetation growing and dying. So it's mostly not regular soil at all but plant matter, which is relatively lightweight. The rock bed underneath the moor was probably smoothed over by glaciers 27,000 years ago, so it doesn't hold on to stuff on the slopes too well. At least that's my guess.
My dad was interested in geology, though he was an army doctor, then a family doctor. But we all went with him on weekend trips to dig up fossils or look for stones on the beach etc.
Thank you so much for sharing the insight about what they're doing to try and stop or limit the landslips. 🤍 Jess x
@DaydreamersBound 👍
Nice to watch your video - when I am driving through those bends It's best to keep eyes on the road!
Thank you for sharing your time with us. I completely understand 🤍 Jess x
My Son was in Uni in Sheffield for 5 years and the Snake Pass was the best way to get their from Liverpool, that aside, it is the only road I've driven that I thought I was going to die, Hit an extremely thick bank of fog at 60mph, hit the brakes and so, very nearly went over the edge. 60 mph was never a speed again. Snake Pass needs to be respected.
It does need to be respected. If not, it might not end well. Cheers, Chris
Carry on to the set of lights for Sheffield or Bamford turn right to Bamford and that is where I live with my family!Glad you enjoyed our part of England, may I say it is a pleasure to watch you touring this island.Always look forward to the next one.Happy motoring!❤
Oh, thank you for coming along with us all the time you do. We love and appreciate your support and kindness! 🤍 Jess x
Spooky -there was a piece on the radio yesterday about the land slides (slips!) along Snake Pass and I wondered what it would be like to drive it . Then today I found your video and now I know ! 🙏
Hopefully, they can figure out a way to keep it open. It would be sad to see it closed. Thank you for watching. 🤍 Jess x
You both make great travelling companions, thanks for having me along on the journey.
Our pleasure! Thanks for coming with. Cheers, Chris
Wow - this takes me back. I lived in Manchester most of my life and for many years, from childhood (60 years ago) to adulthood we would regularly visit relatives across the Pennines in Sheffield. This was the route most often taken - made for driving.
Thank you for sharing your memories with us. We appreciate you spending your time with us. 🤍 Jess x
The building you passed was the snake pass inn a pub about half way over but it looks closed.
Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Chris
Great video.. enjoyed it..I've subscribed ❤ takecare both of you
Glad you enjoyed it and to have you on as a new subscriber. Cheers, Chris
I camped at Snake Pass for 3 nights in late April 1998. It rained all the time apart from 5 hours, it was a great experience but very wet and cold.
Oh, how incredible! Thank you for sharing with us. 🤍 Jess x
There's a expression they use in the south of England, "It's grim up north", you've just experienced some epic grimness 🙂
I love your videos.
I will take that grimness all day long. Cheers, Chris
You seem to find something positive in everything. Always looking at the glass as more than half full. Well done , keep it up. Best Wishes.
Thanks for the kind words. We will keep it going. Cheers, Chris
Having travelled quite a lot in the USA as a Welsh person - I can say that you have your own share of outstandingly beautiful places to visit. The advantage is you get great weather as well. For us it's rare - if the sun comes out even for 1 day - everyone rushes outside to make the most of it.
We understand that for sure. That is why we go regardless, hope for the best weather, but we don't let it stop us. Cheers, Chris
The trees are working woods and forests, they are all over the UK in massive squares, so they’ll chop the trees down and plant new ones then move on to the next ones, always replanting after harvesting.
As a motorcyclist from the North West of England I’m lucky enough to be not far from the Snake Pass ( A57 ) My favourite part is when you drop down into the trees just before Ladybower Reservoir ( one of the places that 617 squadron The Dambusters used for training) Stunning landscape.
But, even better than that, I used to work as a motorcycle courier in Manchester. On many occasions I would have to go to Sheffield to deliver parcels..guess what my number 1 route choice was? 😂 Getting paid to ride one of the best roads in England?!? 😅 I’ll have a bit of that, ta very much. Great days. 😊
Lovely video delighted you love the UK. I hope you have a safe journey home. Much love to you & the USA
Glad you enjoyed the video. We still have a little bit of time before we leave, but thanks for the well wishes. Cheers, Chris
Love your blogs guys. This one's on my bucket list and now need to do it more than ever. Keep up the good work
Thank you for coming along with us, friend! We hope you get to experience Snake Pass. 🤍 Jess x
Its lovely up there, the problem is that in the summer its busy, so the driver has to concentrate and mises the view.
Thanks for filming, and getting out at 4am!
Its even better on two wheels in the summer 😊 🏍
💯
We can only imagine. Cheers, Chris
Thanks for the ride. I live at the bottom of the Snake Pass in Glossop, but it's been a while since I travelled along it.
Thank you for coming along with us! It's a beautiful area. 🤍 jess x
Rode up the way you descended as a training ride for cycling in the Alps a couple of years ago. It along with The Black Mountain, Bwlch and Rhigos climbs in South Wales are the nearest in character to them. Love the enjoyment you get travelling around our country.
Oh, thank you, friend, for always coming along with us! Thank you for sharing. We appreciate and love sharing in our fun with you. 🤍 Jess x
A road I know very well it can be bleak in winter but stunning in summer, I really hope you're enjoying England.
We are for sure. Cheers, Chris
As a 'local' thanks for showing a early morning winter drive. Lucky the snow was only at the very tops, but some frost. My grand fathers brother-in-law use to farm in the bottom of the valley under what is now Ladybower dam was built and had to leave in 1936. As you crossed the summit of the 'pass' the commercial aircraft vapour trails right to left are Europe to Americas, back to front are US NATO forces USA to Germany and beyond and return. The directions commercial aircraft fly also gives the state of the weather mid Atlantic.
Really loved this video, it took me back to the first time I drove the Snake over 50 years ago [and many times since}, not much has changed. I think the lack of trees at the summit is more to do with poor soil and high winds lol. The Snake, Woodhead, Winnets, and latterly Rest and be Thankful {Scotland} are all great drives, I do regret not going back to Derbyshire in later years when I had more interesting motors to drive with lol.
I look forward to all your outings [had to give up driving some years ago] for the vicarious pleasure it gives, hope you both and the youngsters are well and happy.
Agree with you both about the scenery, America has beautiful scenery and landscapes, but it is so far apart lol, our advantage is being able to go through so many variations in a day that would take weeks in the USA.
Well we are glad to be able to bring you out with us. I can only imagine giving up driving, but sometimes you are not the one that has control over that decision. Cheers, Chris
@DaydreamersBound Cheers Chris, my own decision to give up after multiple heart attacks. Another American I subscribe to recently reacted to a video of US drivers in Europe/UK, it was quite amusing but I just had to provide a balance, so I pointed him to your channel to show just how good most Americans are at coping with the driving conditions in the UK.
Really enjoying your vlog and it brings back lots of memories of driving my son, with his stuff, back and forth from Sheffield where he was at Uni, at the start and end of every term (semester) along that very same road. Greatly appreciate the effort you put into exploring the UK and making the most of your time here....😊
Friend, we appreciate your time sharing your special memories. We love and appreciate our opportunity to be here and explore. 🤍 Jess x
Speaking from the ‘other side’, I.e. an English family living the US (I have driven the pass many times; I am a lancashire lad after all) once the elevations level out and the trees disappear, it reminds of the road to Devil’s Tower heading out of South Dakota. From Minnie, that was an awesome road trip…
That is a good one, we drove by there a few years before we came here. It will be on the list when we get back to America. Cheers, Chris
What a lovely video with fantastic scenery and wide open skies.
Thank you for the time you shared with us. 🤍 Jess x
You should try it after a foot of snow.
Try it when it starts snowing. I kept driving higher and higher and the snow got heavier and heavier. I decided not to go much further and found some place to turn around and went back to Sheffield, lower down it went back to sleet, then rain
If we have the right kind of vehicle, it would be a fun challenge. However, we were glad to have the drive we did. Cheers, Chris
It’s taken an American couple to travel the ‘entire’ north rural roads of UK during most if not all of the Winter. That’s not for the faint hearted. Not even Brits would do this. It’s opened my eyes to places I had no idea existed .
Glad we could help showcase the country. Cheers, Chris
Thanks for another lovely video. The Snake pass is well worth a drive in Spring as you mentioned. Please try to make it to the Hardknott Pass in the Lake District - you’ll really enjoy it!
Thank you for coming along with us, friend. We hope we can check out Hardnott Pass! 🤍 Jess x
@DaydreamersBound - Hardnott really is a ‘must do’ 😉
Welcome to the beauty of the uk so pleased you are enjoying your time here u jave already been to my coty (Lincoln) snake pass is beautiful all year round bit especially in winter when the snow settles
We definitely love it here. This has been such a wonderful experience, and all the time for us to learn so much. 🤍 Jess x
My beautiful home county. It's great to see it through your eyes, as you can forget what a wonderful place it is... North Derbyshire is stunning
Thank you for coming along with us. 🤍 Jess x
I've driven the Snake many a time going to visit family in Sheffield. Despite its beauty I never feel completely relaxed with all the twists and turns and steep drops! My worst experience was driving on the high twisty bit near Glossop in the fog!!
The 'lake' at the end is Ladybower Reservoir. A village was deliberately flooded to create it and during droughts ruined buildings are still visible.
I know there are moves to close the road. What an impact that would have on Glossop and Woodhead Pass.
That sounds like it would be not as enjoyable with the fog. Cheers, Chris
@DaydreamersBound Nerve-wracking!
Hiya. Horseshoe Pass in NE Wales, next? There's a Cafe at the top. Well, I think it's a bit bigger than a Cafe now and it might still be closed for the Winter. I started to say what THAT sign meant, Jess, but I managed to bite my lip. The last time I travelled Snake Pass was in the 1980s, making deliveries to both sides of the country from London. Stay safe. All the best to you.
We just looked up Horseshoe pass and would love too, but it says it's closed.
Haha, about the sign. We say B...s coming... 😉

I live about 1/2 hour from here, brilliant road.... and your video really does the scenery justice !
I used to regularly drive the Snake Pass in the course of my work trips to Sheffield plus of course the sometimes social visits to the Ladybower area. I set out one day in winter, had been snowing and forecast wasn't good . Huge drifts by the top and a white out with the wind blowing. Decided to turn back. After about a 20 point turn, slithered back towards Glossop. The road by this time was closed. A very dodgy and lonely morning on top of the Snake
Another great video from you two👍
I don't live far from there, you could have called in for tea 🙂
You ought to take a look at Winnats
Pass, also in the Peak District, it's stunning.
Thank you, friend! Appreciate the recommendation on Winnats Pass. 🤍 Jess x
Great video. I'm from Glossop, so it was cool to see other people see the land.
Thank you, love. We really loved the area! 🤍 Jess x
In 1995,my daughter who lived in Sheffield took us to Manchester on this route,it was in the Summer,i had never seen so many cyclists before on a road, very joyful experience, glad you are both also enjoying.
Thanks for that beautiful car journey ❤😊 🌲🌲🌲
Our pleasure. Cheers, Chris
hi daydreamers, horseshoe pass would only be closed due to snow. there is a cafe on top of
the pass, but its showing closed. plenty of other attractions in Llangollen.
The pass often gets closed during winter storms because of the snow.
If you want to see the result of a landslide, go to the Hope Valley ( other side of Kinder Scout). The road underneath Mam Tor was swept away a number of years ago, and had to be re directed to a new route.
Superb video guys, and in Jan- Feb too! You are very lucky with your weather, your pioneering spirit is helping obviously! 😮 Glad my country is proving a gift. Best wishes & take care ✌️
Oh, friend, we had a lovely time. We're so thankful you enjoyed coming along with us! 🤍 Jess x
I really hope your next video will be the drive up to the Derwent Valley Dams. I don't live too far away on the edge of Sheffield and love visiting this area. I've just come back from a drive to Chatsworth today and to avoid Sheffield traffic I always skirt to the West along the Strines Road and through the village of Bradfield. Sadly its been in the news in the last few days that the Snake Pass may have to close if money can't be found to repair the serious landslips along the road. In the valley off to your left as you drove up to the first landslip is the UKs largest landslip known as Alport Castles because of its resemblance to a ruined medieval castle. You can visit but its a hard hike from the visitors centre at Fairholmes.
Hopefully they can figure out a way to keep it open for all to see and use. Check out the video being released tomorrow. Cheers, Chris
This will be a bit of a ramble but you have awoken a memeory and I must share it.
This road is what that made me fall in love with driving. I was never a 'car guy' really, I lived and worked in Manchester so never needed one, but that all changed when I got a little bit of money together for my 2nd ever car, I realised I could afford the car my dad always lusted after which was the Ford Puma, a whole £2000 in the mid 2000s!
A much older friend had advised me on buying cars "be prepared to travel for a bargain" so I took a chance on Puma that many hours away in Nottingham. This was the days before satnav and in the nervousness of driving a new car, I got lost driving back up north and ended up on the wrong side of the country, this meant I had to use Snake Pass to get back across to the west.
Initially a terrifying piece of road for me as a new driver, I distinctly remember it was frequently decorated by flowers in tribute to those that lost their lives on it (it was a faster speed limit back then too) but despite that as I traversed the snaking path the wonderful handling Puma came alive in my hands and something was awoke in me, the fear subsided and I started to truly relish the drive!. I arrived home many hours late but with a grin as wide as the Cheshire Cat, and I was a different person from that day.
Thanks for recording the journey!
its a stunning drive done it a few times, my 2 favourite are Glen Coe drive and the Northern I Ireland coast drive Belfast to Bushmills
Thank you for coming along with us, and we appreciate the recommendations. 🤍 Jess x
Top video. Did this in reverse from Nottingham, dropped into Glossop, then East to Langsett I think, looping back through the Strines..Bunch of use did it Trent Valley CRC, 42x17 fixed. Great weekend, glorious scenery, thanks for posting.
I have driven that route so many times. Thank you.
Thank you for coming along with us. 🤍 Jess x
I’ve been to the Peak District several times but never driven Snake Pass. Beautiful. Always the first road to become impassable when it snows though 😂
It's a beautiful drive! We hope you get a chance to drive it. 🤍 Jess x
