I once got stuck in a 1977 lift, the lift stopped at the right place. But the doors didn't open until about a minute later. It's been replaced now with a Otis gen 2
The lift at my grandmother's place used to be some 1980s lift (I couldn't remember it) but then it was replaced with a Sigma Lift around 2012. The old lift had buttons that felt nice to press....
I think you would like the lifts/elevators in my town. I worked at an elevator service company and I got to see heaps of really cool lifts and got to ride on the top of a super creepy late 60s hospital dumbwaiter that we modernized. The modernization of the dumbwaiter was actually not too bad, we managed to keep 90 percent of the original parts and only replaced what was necessary and polished it. You would have liked the old creepy non-electric elevator/hoist from the 1800s in an old antique shop we were called to. The scariest moment I think I experienced was a free fall inside of a tired 80s TK lift
I once tried to surf a old bennie but i opened the doors at the wrong moment and the lift stopped working after that. if someone attempted to call it you would hear a bang echo though the shaft then after about 30 seconds the call would be canceled and another bang would happen but it would be much quieter and the lift would not move, I could not get it working again so I left it.
You got the motor sound on the way down. Matt, this video could have been worse! I think it's alright. A take of a lift before modernization is better than no video whatsoever in it's originality!
+DieselDucy Hi Andrew (/Andy? sorry not sure if you like it shortened!) I use two products and I'll tell you about them in a moment. Pinnacle Studio 18 and the Adobe range of products, but mainly Adobe Premiere. It depends on what I am editing as to which product I use. I tend to stick with Pinnacle Studio as I've been using it since version 7, I know it extremely well, its strengths and weaknesses, but MAINLY because it's quick and easy to use. And of course, it does everything else that every semi-professional product does these days, but it doesn't quite fit into the "professional" range. There are certain annoyances such as this... I've edited some footage with "zoom ins" and "zoom out" keyframes at certain points of the footage. All works ok, but then I decide to chop off the last 10 seconds. Studio now adjusts all my keyframes to the new duration, now none of the zooms fit in with the footage and I have to do keyframes again. Adobe Premiere will leave the keyframes where they were, regardless of video clip being shortened/lengthened. Adobe Premiere works alongside other products such as After Effects and Audition. Premiere does most things to some degree, but each other product is specialised. For example, After Effects for stabilisation, motion tracking,+ loads more, but it's dedicated for "effects". Audition is for sound - if you want to filter out a background sound then this is superb, even "erasing" sounds like a mobile phone ringing. There is also a "media converter" for exporting video. All products work together. They take much more time to learn, it takes longer to edit complicated stuff, but I tell you what, Adobe Premiere is a truely professional product and I enjoy working with it. Example, it doesn't crash like Studio does sometimes when it's really busy rendering something. Also, when you are adding loads of effects (e.g. keyframes and filters into one movie clip) you can right click>copy, select a different clip, right click>paste, everything is there saving loads of time. Some very useful features. Premiere basics are quite easy to learn if you understand "keyframes" which are present in most packages these days. So hope that answers your questions, I have some footage of Studio and Premiere and After Effects from one of my Q&A videos: ua-cam.com/video/khguHmEmPFg/v-deo.html - see 6:57 onwards. If you need any further advise then please feel free to contact me again as I enjoy helping people. Matt
I can't remember where that place exactly was to be honest - but I very much doubt that, 7 years later, that it's still the same. It's bound to have been modernised in that time.
I wonder if there happens to be any lifts around that use the old style dial floor indicator on the outside, whether it's a 180 or a 360 degree dial. I know finding one of those is probably a longshot with all the modernisations and replacements going on. If a building happens to have a lot of lifts, can't they keep some of the old ones instead of replacing/modernising them all? As for relays, they need to teach how that stuff works and such. It would be really sad if relay systems like that became a "lost" technology.
Dial indicators are usually found on manually controlled elevators. There are a few manual elevators in the United States (especially in NYC), some with dial indicators, but I think manual elevators and dial indicators are even rarer in most other countries (likely including the UK).
There are two lamps either side of the message that illuminate when it is out of service. This is confusing as it isn't obvious! Maybe it should be labelled "out of service when illuminated" or something
Or maybe the text itself should've been behind a shaded lens so it only showed through when illuminated. Instead, it looks like they engraved it into the switch cover plate.

+Tom Jardine I wouldn't have liked this as a kid, but now it'll be cool (presuming that I was rescued that is!!)
So glad you got some footage of this before the awful modernisation!!

O
The lift came back, but a bit more modernized.
(I like the lifts from the early 2000s)

I heard the relay tick for the lift to start. Credit for that
It actually looked similar to the old cable one in your other video exept the buttons were in the right spot and not miles up in the air
@Shibehunter Zunkai (CetlicHunter) It's fully replaced not modernised.
In old Street, you can find the exact same lift, except on the outside the buttons are original
To Mrmattandchay Could you please do the Cable lift part 2 in December 21st 2021?

@mrmattandmrchay This wasn't an overly interesting lift. It only had a TVLC M6808 processor. There are still loads of 80's TVLC Bennies about.
Why does the call button say "OUT OF SERVICE" when it clearly isn't?

I once got stuck in a 2013 elevator at school.
+Keira Douglas to me that's cool but to you probably not i guess? Lol
Why not do the cable lift part 2
+Gamer 5000 that's because its been modernised and im not really keen to film modernised lifts
