- I created this video for my students because I required them to read this short story for class. I normally read it aloud in class because they struggle with the dialect, but I ended up with the flu. Since my usual plans were foiled, I recorded this video for them. Due to the fact that I recorded it while I was sick, you will hear the occasional cough and throat clearing. No, I have no plans to redo it because I still prefer to read it aloud with my students so we can discuss it as we go. I hope this video helps you enjoy this wonderful story!
Thank you for saving me in AP Lang!!

@@caaarbz Now that I’m older I completely agree.
thank you so much! this helped me actually understand the story rather get confused trying to read what the characters are saying lmao.
same, i tried looking for translations becuase english isn't my first language, but i couldn't find any proper translation into spanish nor english lol
Your reading is fine! Thank you for reading so i didnt have to do it myself.
So much coughing, hope you're well now! Thanks for the reading. :)
The best part was the baby at the end 😊😊 thank you so much
Thank you Ms. Jacobs. My class spent almost an entire class trudging through the first four pages, reading out loud while following the PDF. While that was a worthwhile experiment, finding your piece here provided a perfect antidote to the "Sweat" blues the next day! Your performance and the PDF form a lovely pas de deux!
Wow you handled the diction incredibly.
the way my heart clenched as you approached the n word.... thank you for not saying it!
Lol
Many Thanks! I got through the first few paragraphs but without your reading it I would have taken hours to work through that dialect. So many thanks!
Thank you: sophmore level english in college
Thank you. I needed to read this for class but my eyes were tired. This helped a lot
I had to write about this for class. Thank you!
Thank you very much! I wish I can express my gratitude enough through this! Reading the culture language was so hard to follow through! And my family is from down south! You did a wonderful job!! My level of comprehension sky rocketed!

Thank you for this
Thank you so much for posting this! You did a fantastic job reading it! All of these people complaining about your coughing or clearing of your throat are obviously spoiled and need to read the story on their own.
Thankyou so much.

Jesus Christ Loves You
AP Language sucks
i’m having a hard time paying attention 😣
Did you smoke cigarettes at the time of the recording?
Too much coughing... Could've edited coughing out maybe??
or you could've read it yourself lmao
Not bad for a white women,, thank you!
So you mean to tell me that these people clearly are very grammatically inarticulate, and yet he uses the word “asterperious” .... seems likely
oohKurdi Asterperious is an African American vernacular English slang word...so yes they would most definitely use that word in everyday speech.
@Mahder Aklilu Calm yourself dude lol. I'm from Atlanta I know all about it. That's just a self-aggrandizing way of saying Ebonics. which is a stupid concept because it's just a way that overly proud black people try to argue that all forms of english are equal, which is clearly not true, i'm a lot less articulate than some people, alot less articulate than others. These characters are inarticulate because they were written on purpose to seem that way. I just pointed out the "asterperious" outlier to show how out of character that was.
@Mahder Aklilu i didnt say anyone is beneath me, you assumed that, and that's why you're offended, or at least acting as though you are. lol
Great read but there is absolutely no need to censor yourself.
ikr
You must be white.
@@Cb-yx3pd um......?
@@Cb-yx3pd Why would she need to censor herself? It's a book.
@@jeremyfuller7730 pls read the description and see this is for her students...also, its just not cool to say those words.
holy fuck stop making those sounds
Good job except for the coughing!
Horrible! I am sorry it was so painful to listen to the story with all that coughing
she made it for her students- not you
This may have been helpful if you didn't sound like you had Covid the entire time. Coughing and clearing your throat during the recording was distracting
Lmao can u stop clearing ur throat, holy shit bro
What a terrible reading, if you are sore throat you should be recording an audiobook
