  • The history of the Delaware & Hudson canal is one of industrial ingenuity, engineering, and infrastructure investment. In order to bring coal to heat homes and power industry in the urban centers, a group of investors formed and created the Delaware & Hudson Canal Company and made their fortunes transporting coal from Pennsylvania east to New York City.
The canals were a critical part of early economic growth in Northeastern Pennsylvania. To learn more about the canals, go to dhthc.org. The 2 DVD set of the full documentary can be purchased at the Visitor Center or the Wayne County Historical Society in Honesdale, www.waynehistorypa.org. Explore the Pocono Mountains! You can try canals.org, www.canalmuseum.org. There are a number of Museums in New York and Northeast Pennsylvania that have a lot of information. There is also a historic canal house just outside of Hawley, PA.
