Two of wich are really bad, for me at least re-boots are around 80% worthless plot-wise, the woke ones i won't even mention. I personally can't not judge them, which is unfortunate but... And for manga there are multiple types of good mangas and they are pretty common.
I think it’s mainly cause comics are hugely restricted in the characters/ worlds they can use. Where as each manga is completely unique and different from one another, particularly regarding characters.

Yeah I get that, I just mean restricted in the sense that for the most part they don’t have the liberty to create new characters, and as you said kinda have to rely on characters that have existed for 30 years and put a new spin on them. Where as in manga there’s not that odd prerequisite.
@@modauth one of my all-time favorites is Oda because of the work he puts into One Piece, and horikoshi because of his amazing sketches, but I generally like to look at a lot of different styles. I love western styles too, but I just have a preference for manga
@@pennymcsquee5584 welp Oda did have a way to make his character feels organic and had a sense of distance that his manga's panelling is rather rich and unique. Also Oda is a master of caricature and arguably gives us a great storytelling to the point where he gives a perfect expressions to the characters to show their emotional states that you can tell each character have a distinct emotion in them or not.
I love how manga artists have full creative liberty to draw what they want, design characters tey want, and tell the stories they want. Its kinda unfortunate western comics are often stuck doing the same superheroes, but there are still exceptions like Moebius and Mike Mignolia
If this western artists did more then drawing dc and marvel comics, I would have probably known about them a lot sooner. As good as their art is, most of the time they stop the story short from continuing. Eather they reboot it, remake it, never touch it for years, or just completely cansel them. I also am not interested in reading houndreds of pointeless stories that don't matter in the slightest.
East and Western artist are inspired by one another that's why works look similar, but different. I couldn't say ones better than the other when both draw off each other for inspiration being an artist is basically being inspired by other artist and making your own thing. There's no way I could sit down and say "Yeah this is better than that." when both are absolute killer in their own ways.
Weird that they didn't had Yasuhisa Hara in the list. He's the mangaka from kingdom. And junji ito should definitly get mentioned, when its about unique artstyles

One of the reasons are that Mangakas have really tight deadline compared to western comics and they had to deliver that quality in that deadline so mangakas are easy win for me I remember when I was reading Doomsday Clock I had to wait for more than a year (November 2017 - December 2019) for just 12 issues Meanwhile for a manga its either weekly or monthly with that quality so its easy win for mangaka for me

But comic books Deliver 12 40+ page issues a year, overall they’re delivering the same amount of content, but because it’s less frequent it gives less impact. With the amount of coloured illustrations they’re demanded a month, they’re under just as much pressure
Hard disagree there on Steve Ditko. The dude was a legend. He perfected the 9-panel grid and his moody style laid the groundwork for Frank Miller. Not to mention the slick inking, dynamic expressions and hands. Seriously look at how well he uses hands to make characters come alive. Plus his character designs are iconic - Spidey, Dr. Strange, Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Sandman, Mysterio, Vulture, Electro, Kraven, Lizard, J. Jonah Jameson and on and on.

yeh and i hate the irony when people say all anime look the same but all comics have the same realistic look, bruce wayne, clark kent, reed richard all looked like chin chisel white men with neat hair, especially during the 1960s. Now of course comic and manga art do not not look the same nowaday especially, iban coello art does not look like jim lee and ericho oda art looks nothing like kentaro mirua art.

Since you love the uniqueness of JoJo, i will reccomend this manga artist Nakayama Atsushi, is my favorite manga artist of all time, i know is a big statement, his art is insane i don't know how well can i describe that, but insane i think it's appropriate, i wonder if you'll like that.
For the next episode you can react to Shigenori Soejima. He is the artist of the Persona video games ( Manga/Enemy style). He has a very interesting aproach that will definitly blow your mind.

It is a bit unfair to compare incomplete non-colored drawings with complete mangaka drawings. for technique the absence of color is a lack in america while in japan with a different technique the perception of color occurs in our mind
My main reason for giving manga the win is because when you get into a manga the art style there is is the one that stays the same unless the artist grows but comics issues by issue are plagued by having multiple artists
I primarily read western comics and I get your point, some of my favourite comics are ones with a consistent team of creatives. However, I also read comics like Batman and TBH I kinda like how I can read two issues back to back with different artists in them. I like seeing the same character given love by so many talented artists.

Honestly I feel like they didn't represent Murata's very well. Some of his works would blow most of these artist out of the water. Just look at Orochi or Boros's ship.
It's not about West vs East. It's about letting mediocrity and politics clash with ART. West has let talentless hacks run their comics and therefore most mainstream comics are sh*t. There are still really good Indie comics coming up so keep a look out for them. As for the East (Mainly Japan), Art takes precedent over politics.
Part of the difference is the flow of fights. If you look at a lot of modern manga, you can follow the flow of the fight and you get each strike drawn out. I don't see this in comics as much anymore. You get a series of different hits and the art doesn't flow panel to panel as much.

Panels are great but in Manga what's great is the Dynamism of the mouvements, the motions of the actions. That's why I prefer manga even when I tried to read Comics with great Art i couldn't keep going because it felt flat and slow in actions ( not all of them but most )
They should have put Hisa Masato next to Mike Mignola. Much more similar in style. Just check out the manga's Area 51, Jabberwocky and Grateful Dead. Mike still easily would win for his contribution to the medium, but at least you see similar vibe.

I don't read western comics despite being American myself. But in all honesty I felt comic book art should have gotten a lot more points (tho I'm not sure if it should have won or not). Can anyone recommend how I can get into comics? It's kind of hard because they've been around very long.
You could try to start with image comics, boom, or vertigo titles, they mostly publish non-superhero comics. Series usually have definitive endings and usually same creative team does all of it. You could start with Saga, Y The Last Man, The Walking Dead, East of West etc. Or maybe shorter series like Extremity, Luther Strode trilogy, Daytripper, WE3 etc. After reading some titles like that look if a writer or an artist you loved have done any superhero work. They have probably done it. Start from there and branch out.

I like both there's amazing artists and authors on both sides I grew up reading one of my favorite comics spawn prop the best character of all time and Todd's artwork is god tier then you have amazing manga like berserk and claymore which are two of my favorites you can't say one is better than the other when you got amazing talent on both sides and crappy ones too to say that one is better than the other is stupid it depends on what you read and by who in my opinion
Remember the big difference is that a lot of these artists for the comic books are (to my knowledge) from about 15-30ish years ago, while some of the mangaka shown are old as well a good chunk are still producing material, if you put the modern manga vs the modern comic book artist this would be even more of a blow out
Most of the artists in this video has non superhero artwork as well. But they are not as popular as superhero ones, so they didn't made it into this video.
i don't have any issue with both art style, but manga has different character and story. just like gege akutami, his art would look bad if you compare them with yusuke artwork, but jujutsu kaisen have an amazing storyline and plot. so that's why mangas are more popular than comic
The thing just is that usually in manga the art is much more richer since they are not colored, so it in many ways needs to be than a basic western comic page wise. Like many pages are worth of what would be the cover art in western comics with many manga. There is ofc exceptions to both directions but in general I would say so. Especially when a manga get's established to the point that they don't need to rush new editions out. I do like both western and japanese art and comics so there is that but I just feel this doesn't quite represent the overall picture of where it is. Also with some artists it's just hard to not give it to them. Like for example Tetsuo Hara and Fist Of The North Star is legendary og stuff or to like Jim Lee even tho he does have cruches he seems to go a bit too many times even if he is so good. Then if you would have read like Transmetropolitan, Darick's work is just simply amazing even tho Hideo is also something else with Ichi The Killer etc. so it's really hard to make a judgment call if you don't know both, it's kinda up in the air with what you happen to see and if you know only another one ofc there will be a huge bias as with legends on pedestal (in most cases for a reason tho, but in some cases it Might be a bit outdated). It's anyway a lot preference based anyway. As someone who draws, some of the choices based on the pictures were just objectively baffling to me. Like for example the Jim Lee one even tho I didn't know the mangaka but goddamn. Another one was where the pics for Yukimura wasn't nowhere at the peak of the talent and he is against a legend of Todd but just objectively I'm not so sure about it being Todd as awhole. Still fun. I just wouldn't take it as too seriously u know.
story-wise, the western comic industry need to step up their game. Reading their overused superhero cliche over and over again is like eating the same bland fried chicken for 6 whole decades
Just hearing Superhero comic for me is a turn-off.. I’m really not interested in Superheroes because i’ve been reading since doomsday and i think Superman Died 4 times already, and i only read a bit of comic.. it’s so lame now i only read Manga and the only comic i interested was the Extremely graphic ones or the morally twisted.
As a fan of both manga and American comic books, both are good, however comic book artists such as Jim lee, Francis manapul, esad ribic are out of this world. Notable managakas I rate highly are inoue, kentaro. And toriyama . Talking based on the artistic ability. Also toriyama paneling technique might be the best of them as his motion is unreal.

West has let talentless hacks run their comics and therefore most mainstream comics are sh*t. There are still really good Indie comics coming up so keep a look out for them.

Part of the difference is the flow of fights. If you look at a lot of modern manga, you can follow the flow of the fight and you get each strike drawn out. I don't see this in comics as much anymore. You get a series of different hits and the art doesn't flow panel to panel as much.

Panels are great but in Manga what's great is the Dynamism of the mouvements, the motions of the actions. That's why I prefer manga even when I tried to read Comics with great Art i couldn't keep going because it felt flat and slow in actions ( not all of them but most )

I don't read western comics despite being American myself. But in all honesty I felt comic book art should have gotten a lot more points (tho I'm not sure if it should have won or not). Can anyone recommend how I can get into comics? It's kind of hard because they've been around very long.
You could try to start with image comics, boom, or vertigo titles, they mostly publish non-superhero comics. Series usually have definitive endings and usually same creative team does all of it. You could start with Saga, Y The Last Man, The Walking Dead, East of West etc. Or maybe shorter series like Extremity, Luther Strode trilogy, Daytripper, WE3 etc. After reading some titles like that look if a writer or an artist you loved have done any superhero work. They have probably done it. Start from there and branch out.

@@Username12168 most of them are done by people who does mainstream comics anyways. Just find people you like and use their works to enter mainstream comics. For example writer of East of West has worked on Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men.

American comics lack in topics and that's why they are outdone by Japanese manga. Even unpopular topics like agriculture or journalism have their own mangas. In contrast, Comics be like: We aint draw if it's not superhero or lgbt lmao.

Like everywhere else. You can find any genre in comicbooks. Also superheroes stories can have different sub genres. You can't blame artists when working on mainstream publishers gives bread and recognition

I like both there's amazing artists and authors on both sides I grew up reading one of my favorite comics spawn prop the best character of all time and Todd's artwork is god tier then you have amazing manga like berserk and claymore which are two of my favorites you can't say one is better than the other when you got amazing talent on both sides and crappy ones too to say that one is better than the other is stupid it depends on what you read and by who in my opinion
I like more art from Alex Ross just bc he make the ridiculous uniform realistic, is so fun.
Remember the big difference is that a lot of these artists for the comic books are (to my knowledge) from about 15-30ish years ago, while some of the mangaka shown are old as well a good chunk are still producing material, if you put the modern manga vs the modern comic book artist this would be even more of a blow out

i don't have any issue with both art style, but manga has different character and story. just like gege akutami, his art would look bad if you compare them with yusuke artwork, but jujutsu kaisen have an amazing storyline and plot. so that's why mangas are more popular than comic

did you all notice how in the manga side there where more original works than in the comic side that everything was 90% DC or MArvel?
The thing just is that usually in manga the art is much more richer since they are not colored, so it in many ways needs to be than a basic western comic page wise. Like many pages are worth of what would be the cover art in western comics with many manga. There is ofc exceptions to both directions but in general I would say so. Especially when a manga get's established to the point that they don't need to rush new editions out. I do like both western and japanese art and comics so there is that but I just feel this doesn't quite represent the overall picture of where it is.
Also with some artists it's just hard to not give it to them. Like for example Tetsuo Hara and Fist Of The North Star is legendary og stuff or to like Jim Lee even tho he does have cruches he seems to go a bit too many times even if he is so good. Then if you would have read like Transmetropolitan, Darick's work is just simply amazing even tho Hideo is also something else with Ichi The Killer etc. so it's really hard to make a judgment call if you don't know both, it's kinda up in the air with what you happen to see and if you know only another one ofc there will be a huge bias as with legends on pedestal (in most cases for a reason tho, but in some cases it Might be a bit outdated). It's anyway a lot preference based anyway. As someone who draws, some of the choices based on the pictures were just objectively baffling to me. Like for example the Jim Lee one even tho I didn't know the mangaka but goddamn. Another one was where the pics for Yukimura wasn't nowhere at the peak of the talent and he is against a legend of Todd but just objectively I'm not so sure about it being Todd as awhole.
Still fun. I just wouldn't take it as too seriously u know.

I had some differing opinions in regards to points for both sides but yeah overall these were some difficult choices.
story-wise, the western comic industry need to step up their game. Reading their overused superhero cliche over and over again is like eating the same bland fried chicken for 6 whole decades
Just hearing Superhero comic for me is a turn-off.. I’m really not interested in Superheroes because i’ve been reading since doomsday and i think Superman Died 4 times already, and i only read a bit of comic.. it’s so lame now i only read Manga and the only comic i interested was the Extremely graphic ones or the morally twisted.
I kinda wish you'd used more action scenes, since, IMO, conveying movement and impact is where manga excels.

As a fan of both manga and American comic books, both are good, however comic book artists such as Jim lee, Francis manapul, esad ribic are out of this world. Notable managakas I rate highly are inoue, kentaro. And toriyama . Talking based on the artistic ability. Also toriyama paneling technique might be the best of them as his motion is unreal.
