She looks so hurt, even though she is trying not to show it. Darling, do not mind what other people say. You are the only one who can decides her own identity, you look beautiful, you sound smart, you absorbed the best of the two cultures. What else? We can only look and be jealous in my opinion.
But she shouldn't have to put up with it. My daughter is 7 and every time she takes the train with me people say "oh wow you speak korean so well! is your father korean?" so she answers yes and they say to each other "see, her father is korean so he must have taught her korean!" These people are telling themselves a story they made up about my daughter, in front of her. As a result, after a few years hearing this, she started to answer "my father is korean"
Fact: My daughter is Korean.
Fact: My daughter learnt Korean primarily from me, her Australian mother.
When people speak to children from a place of prejudiced curiosity, they impact our children's ability to understand and have confidence in their own identities. So you may think this is just an annoyance this woman experiences, but I really value that she is voicing this discomfort with the words of an adult, and I hope it helps other adults to consider how they speak to multi racial people of all ages.
Why are they so concerned about someone's race? Focus on yourself, maybe you will be happier and stop commenting rude stuff so you can relieve your sadness.

"99% of Koreans are homogenous." To that commenter, I say, "yes, and that means 1% of Koreans are not. 100 - 99 = 1. She is part of that 1% of Koreans who are not homogenous." I am American, and it is well known that the mathematics education in many other countries, including S Korea, is superior to the system in the USA ... so why do I have to point out that 99% is not 100%?

I taught English in Busan a while ago, I lived in an area where a lot of immigrant workers lived. A lot of them married and had kids with Koreans, so there were quite a few mixed kids at the schools i taught at. I would definitely hear comments from other kids in their class saying they weren't Korean
But all these kids only spoke Korean, really sad but hope things will change in the future

Unfortunately, there is racism everywhere, even in Korea. I am ashamed that some Koreans would make ignorant comments about multiculturalism. People who make racial comments have never experienced being a minority in other countries. Multiculturalism may not be perfect to ignorant people, but multiculturalism is perfect to God. Be proud of being multicultural. Don't listen to the Korean racists. Be proud of being Austrian and Korean.

@sylveoness I moved to Korea 1 month ago and I am pretty happy with it. I might be one of those few foreigners that don't teach english tho... Anyway, my experience so for has been all good. I've been studying Korean for barely 2 years but I was able to practice and Koreans keep complimenting me on how well I speak every single time I open my mouth. I've never been complimented about my looks in my home country but here I often hear about how handsome I am to them. Neither this last month nor the other times I've spent here the past 2 years I've experienced "negative racism" in person. If you want to come, do ti. The food is amazing and there are many fun things to experience and beautiful things to see. Also 99% of Koreans are really nice and warming once you know them personally.

Now if she was half black you wouldn’t be short of hate comments. At least she is pretty and white-passing. That gives her a confidence boost and irl she would face less discrimination than a dark skinned biracial korean child would face.
Sure, she is privileged. I guess people will hate her less or not because of her white-passing features (I can just assume..) BUT that doesn't make her hardship less important. I think mixed-people eraser is a big problem nowadays. You other fetishised or hated. People tend to think in a box. You are either this or that. It has a big troll on your identity-forming and that she is talking about her experience may help other people in the same situation out. I am as well mixed with Ghanian roots (Black) and I am thankful that even one person who watched her video will think about better ways to approach a person which multicultural backgrounds.

Guys didn't care how I did my hair, makeup, clothes or where I bought my shoes or that I wore glasses instead of contacts. Even now after college and in the workforce, its always a group of women with the most petty, backstabbing behavior. Which is sad because you would think women would look out for each other instead of being so competitive.

I'm a Korean-American who was born in America. My Korean sucks as my parents both spoke English fluently. Koreans will make fairly rude comments. After awhile, you tend to not care about it. The comments are usually from people who aren't important in my life (taxi drivers). Koreans aren't very PC. You can't take them for face value. Many of them have 0 credibility to have an educated opinion because most of them have never left Asia. E. Asia remains 90-95% ethnically "pure". By default, they're going to say things differently than someone from America or Europe, where diversity is everywhere.
When people bother me about my Korean not being good, I just ask them what their 3rd language is (French is my 2nd language). That usually shuts them up.
American? are the people who are from America not from USA greetings :)
Please know that this mostly comes from lack of experience than ignorance. It is very heartbreaking to see people generalizing people of a certain nationality/race... I am not assuming you did, I’m just saying I hope you meant that this lack of knowledge within Koreans occurs a lot of times, but not in all Koreans ❤️
I understand where you are coming from because I consider myself very Korean (both my parents are) even though I am not a citizen. I know that Koreans still have a lot of old-fashioned beliefs and many times display rude actions to people of other nationalities, which are results of some annoying boomers, Koreans’ tendencies to listen to them even if they are completely wrong, and some uneducated dogs that do not know what they are talking about.

My years of traveling i had the experience culture in a lot of countries. Not for a few months, but I have spent years in many europeans countries too. The lack of experience does not cut it especially when I am in countries that are multi cultural, and has been for a long time. The only difference between America, and every other country is that if you're openly racist in america it'll cost your job, friends, and where you stand in society. There were people openly racist in european football, and they just get a slap on the wrists. If it were to happen in the NBA, NFL, or MLB it'll be hell. That is why Americans are quiet about it, and every other country will be blunt with their prejudice.

Honestly Korean and Austrian compliments each other a lot. I never thought of a Korean and Austrian parent's kid until watching your videos. As much as people are hating I'm sure there are even more who are supportive. Not everyone can be that hateful as these trolls.

This beautiful young lady actually resembles actress Kim Tae Hee. Her looks is exactly what many Korean entertainers get surgery to achieve. I guess there must be a lot of jealousy behind the discrimination she receives - like "I can't have your looks, but I can bully you for not being full Korean".

This kind of behavior is something that will always be present in most societies. I have learned quite a lot about double consciousness (basically being mixed) through various different authors (Du Bois for instance) and I have to say: It is difficult. I hope we will find an acceptance somewhere within our communities, that in the future we are not all alike. There should not be any boundaries when it comes to love. My greatest wish is that the future generations find comfort and happiness within all of their cultural communities.
As a mixed race person in the United States, I have heard almost all of the same comments from your original video.
It was really annoying getting asked those questions every day in school, when I was a child. All of the students had known me for years, but they still thought that I was adopted or lying about my race- Even though I told them the truth!!!
Did you ever get asked if you had been adopted?

I might not be specifically half Korean but, as a mixed Asian-European myself - I related a lot to your previous video and as much as it sucks to hear these micro aggressive comments/opinions from others; I try to find comfort that I am okay with myself and that I have friends that love and respect me simply as I am.

This doesn't happen only in Korea many other countries say very bad things about biracial. I'm saying that because i am biracial. First it had very bad influence on me but now i don't care what other people say or think.
I want to go spend some time in Korea bc it is a beautiful place with interesting history and culture, but I have a low tolerance for racism and my husband even less so, so i really hope that when we visit I don't get any comments about it
@@user-thxwrjjtihtswfjyij__124t i know it is. i think we hear more about it though in america more so than other countries because of the media's purposeful stirring of the pot, so to speak. i am a black woman and as a child and even as a teenager, i had no experience with racists despite growing up in what used to be one of my country's most racist states. when i got to college in 2012, the racial fires began and its been downhill since. no one believed it at first because, who encounters people who think like this in this day and age? but some black people, with nothing to believe but what they see on tv, became racist against white people. its terrible.
I know I’m late saying this but, if you’re so worried about being treated differently from others when you visit an homogenous country and have a low tolerance on racism than don’t go to Korea.
