I always believed this song to be a trubute to the dad and son killed aling the winton/ kynuna stretch years ago..it shocked us darwin runners to the core when it happened
It is the true story of a young boy who died in a truck wreck along with his Dad on the homeward leg of their long run. The rig was rebuilt and from that time on whenever the rig was in danger, the ghost of the little boy would appear, as if to warn the driver. Over the years many drivers have had visits from the little boy .Areodyne is a style of truck made by Kenworth. A truck driver doing the long haul at night is struggling to stay awake at the very point where he’s about to fall asleep he looks over in the passenger seat and a little boy is sitting there urging him to slow the truck down because something is about to break. The driver wakes and stops the truck when the problem occurs. The boy died in the truck with the first owner and his ghost is there to stop drivers falling asleep at the wheel. I never saw a boy in the passenger seat (perhaps because I had my truck from new and no one died in it) but I would be lying if I sat here now and said I didn’t look. I looked more times than I can count, sometimes I looked multiple times during the song. It wasn’t like I was expecting to see the boy (and I wasn’t driving an Aerodyne) but each and every time I looked at that seat! I often wonder what would have happened on the day I did see a boy in the passenger seat.
@Grey Matter hey Grey. Do you know where the aerodyne is now. Been trying to do reseach last hr or so and cant find any youtube story, movie or news article on it
Hi im jesse james & the boy in the aerodyne made my blood run cold + I felt the hair stand up all over my body. Yes its a true story +most all u truckers will experience some strange turn of events or someone that has but I promise u brace urself ur turns commin ive had mine. Trust Me!
Something like this happened to my uncle. This is the story he told me, 8 years ago he used to drive a road train out to a station on an old dirt track that went for a hundreds of kilometres and he reckons it's haunted. So one night when he's driving out there he's getting real tired then he heard a man speaking aboriginal in an echoey voice next to him so he looked over and there was an old aboriginal bloke next to him wearing animal skins like he just came out of the 1700s spoke to him again and disappeared.
My Pop used to drive log trucks when he was alive from Dargo vic high country to Bairnsdale one night he was drive back to dargo and it was getting on 3am and raining he said he seen someone standing in a drain on the side of the road in a top hat and dress suit so he pulled over and had a sleep
if you ask me my dad was a truck driver but he had to give up because of his heart and i miss going on jorneys with him he misses truck driving to and this song is so good 😭😓
@@drewsteuart4429 Takes a lot of energy for a ghost just to be visible, and remember, he's a kid. All he could do would be implore the driver to get some rest
When I first heard this one, I wondered what kind of crash it was. Think about it for a moment. If a car crashes hard enough to kill some of its occupants, 99.9% of the time the car itself is a write off. For a truck to kill its occupants, there's the physics of momentum involved. Both the driver and his son would have to not be wearing seat belts, and there would be a lot of damage to the truck (that sudden stop and all) My point is the insurance companies baulk at repairing a vehicle after a certain amount of damage
Depends on what you mean real. There's always been stories. Up here in the mountains there's a very cold girl maybe 10-12 who stands too close to the road all by herself no matter what time day or night just before a patch of black ice. Doesn't have a name, doesn't have a story, just a cold looking young girl who looks out of place and if you ever see her in the mountains of East Tennessee , especially up on Groundhog Gap when it's been raining and turned cold, you better drop about 4 gears and get ready do go skating.

Mechknight73 they would of just put a new cab on it you would be surprised how much the frame can stand up to
considered a rollover which would kill both and be able to recover the truck

Here’s the lyrics for anyone who wants em
On a wet New England Highway hauling freight to
Camooweal a tired and weary driver fell asleep behind the wheel.
And the driver and his young bloke,
both die on that homward run a wife
lost her husband a mother lost her son.
Well the busted Kenworth was repaired and was soon back hauling
frieght running produce to the market from Hay down to Adelaide.
And old was the new driver and he's not one to spin a lie
This is his story of the boy in the aerodyne
It was goin on 3am out on a moonlight road old
Nev was gettin spongey still a long way from home
He scanned across the gauges then sitting at his side
Out of nowhere there appeared a ghostly vision of a child
Well the ghost just started and blinked looked him square in the face.
Startled Nev just stuttered how ya goin little mate
But he didn't say a word and in a moment he was gone.
Old Nev was shaken up but wide awake he carried on.
When the road is hard and the night
is long you get so tired you can't go on
His guardian Angel at your side a ghostly mate the boy in the aerodyne
Over many months that followed the boy appeared in the cab but only
late at night when Nev was tiring somethin bad then finally Nev told
Steve his mate but Steve could only scoff he said hey
Nev you're in The Horrors mate you must be goin soft.
Then on a hay Newcastle run Steve had to take the shift when up round
sandy Harlow the rig began to drift it was then the ghost appeared
Steve thought he'd his mind the main spring
lead had snapped the boy had saved his life.
When the road is hard and the night
is long you get so tired you can't go on
His guardian Angel at your side a ghostly mate the boy in the aerodyne
Well the years took their toll old Nev finally gave it all away
And sold the old rig to a bloke over there in WA.
And the stories filtered back about the ghost of the boy who died
Still watching over weary drivers in that old Aerodyne
When the road is hard and the night
is long you get so tired you can't go on
His guardian Angel at your side a ghostly mate the boy in the aerodyne
