The greatest violin teacher on youtube, no big words no vague ambiguous feel the music kind of talk, just straight forward technique broken down to small steps....love it
Professor, I've been playing the violin for 18 years now, and I'm quite good at the violin. I've got great arm vibrato but ALWAYS struggled with wrist vibrato (it was the one thing I've struggled with). I've had 3 teachers throughout my life, and have tackled this issue with all 3, but none of them could help me. Watching this video has helped me immensely with what I'm actually doing wrong with wrist vibrato. I'm so grateful you're doing vids on youtube. Thanks so much!
hi, i just wanted to say thanks a million for this..i stopped playing violin when i was 12 because my teacher made me feel useless for not being able to get vibrato..15 years later i've just started trying to play again and its great to hear someone say that it's not an easy thing to do! it really makes me feel much better, thank you!
Out of the many videos on vibrato I watched, this helped me the most. I couldn't figure out how to move my finger until this video. I learned vibrato in an hour because of this.
You are one of the few violin teachers on youtube that talks in such a way that the students will understand you. That's very hard to find and that is a sign of a good teacher. I love your videos and they've helped me bunches!
Well, i am currently following more than 20 violin channels, but you are the best violin professor. I rellay appreciate your videos. Regards from Turkey.
I started playing the violin when i was 3 years old and practised for 10 years. Im 20 years old now and i still play my violin at home, but seriously, Now I finally understand what my teachers were talking about when they told me to only move my hand above wrist. Thank you man :) and now I'm all excited because i was starting to think that i had forgotten all my talent and played really crappy violin. Im gonna practise the vibrado like crazy and my music's gonna sound so beautiful and dramatic
I'm a cellist and am attempting to transfer my cello abilities onto the violin. I'm finding that I should just start from square one. These videos are awesome and I'm so glad I found ProfessorV. I'm at work right now driving my co-workers nuts by attempting to vibrate on pencils and rulers. I can't wait to get home and try this out on my fiddle! Thank you so much for posting these videos, @professorv!!!
Thank you very much! I'm 50+ and start to learn violin a year ago with your lesson #1. I will try to learn vibrato now. Your lessons are extremely helpful. "Relaxed" word makes the magic.
70 yrs old, lifelong horn player. 2 months in on fiddle. 1 week with this video after many tries with other teachers and I can now produce vibrato! You are a genius teacher!
I watched multiple videos on vibrato techniques and exercises and I just haven't felt like I was getting the right motion until I stumbled upon this video. I feel a lot more comfortable and I don't feel as frustrated. I'm still not perfect at it, but I'm practicing every day, thank you!
Best lesson ever! Just after casually practicing in that guitar position for 30 minutes while I surfed the internet. I was about to reliably play vibrato for the first time ever! It feels so easy now. Thank you. I will have to check out your other lessons.
Hi PV.. I REMEMBER LOGGING ON HERE 9 MONTHS TO THE DAY & watching your Vibrato Lessons which have helped.. I've been learning the violin for 1yr now as an older beginning student.. i have a long way to go if i continue for it is HARD! I just wanted to say hello & THANK YOU for the support you give via these VIDEO LESSONS which are wonderful! For some YOU are ALL they have.. for THEM i thank you.
I love this video. I've watched all others but they didn't help at all. This is much easier but also more effective. Thanks alot for saving my life. I've been struggling to learn it for a year
I'm 33 and just starting to learn violin; took it up less than a month ago in fact.. Your videos have helped me along quite a bit. Just wanted to say thanks.
Excellent tutorial. I have played 'cello for over 40-years and vibrato on 'cello is fairly straightforward. I just bought a brand-new violin, and trying to get vibrato on it is difficult at best. This demystifies the process. Many thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO! I have watched and listened to many people on how to do vibrato but this is so much better in detail and great exercises to get your wrist in the motion. THANK YOU!
Awesome video. Best on UA-cam. I was so excited when I was able to do a "supported" vibrato after 1 day with this video. What I mean by "supported" is using the body of the violin as training wheels, as around 5:42 in this video. Not perfectly, of course, but enough to start to get a feel for it. It's gonna be a very, very long way to go to get a real vibrato with my hand in proper playing position, but I'm ecstatic that I can at least develop a feel for it now. Even with the "supported" vibrato, I have a ton of work to do, but this gave me a starting point that I was unable to get from any other videos I watched. Extremely difficult, yes. But now I feel like it's possible. Thanks so much!
Hi professorV :D I've been playing the viola for 7 years and never knew how to do vibrato until i watched this video. Because of your AWESOME help, i was able to succeed at vibrato after 2 months ;D I learned fast strictly because i'm left-handed, but without your help, i would have never gotten it down. Thank You so much, i just love it whenever my teacher compliments my vibrato :D
WOW! I have wanted to learn how to do this! You make it seem easy and now that I understand the mechanics of how it is done I think I will learn it. I think playing the violin is all about the vibrato mostly. The vibrato is what gives it expression. I can't thank you enough for teaching this. I have nine stringed instruments that I can play proficiently and I think the vibrato is what has been in the way of me mastering the violin. it is the hardest of my stringed instrument to play. :)
Been looking for a good technique to work into this for while and this is by far the best. Using the wood to force the right motion is great. Thanks for doing this.
I'm and older adult student using retirement time to learn violin. and I'm having a blast. I already play piano and organ. I take lessons at a local music school but I like to use you to fill in the gaps with clarification. You're very very good. You make it easy to understand and fun. Thank You
I watched a few of your videos now and I must say, I love the way you use your voice while explaining. It's so warm, gentle and motivating :) Thanks for that!
Awesome teacher. Clear and concise explanation of a lot of relevant details and expected progression and challenges. Top class professor with excellent explanation/demonstration balance. I'm learning the violin alone and find your videos extraordinary. Huge thank you ProfessorV.
Thanks for the video! I use hand vibrato and have a student who was struggling with arm vibrato who I think will get along better with hand/wrist but was struggling to translate what I do to him. I learned how to teach arm vibrato but never really got tips on how to teach hand vibrato. This was very helpful. I'm excited to work with him tomorrow!
i recently picked up the violin (2 weeks ago). i'd like to think i'm a fast learner. i'm taking what i already know about music and utilizing that in my journey to finally learn the violin. i have the notes down; i can read music; i can bow properly if i concentrate; however the vibrato is something that i found that i cannot teach myself to do. this video just got me really started on being able to perform a vibrato, and i hope that in a couple of weeks, using what you had taught us here, i will have learned how to do it. thank you very much. enormous help.
Eurekaaaa its the better video for learning vibrato !!! Thanks a lot !! I love you !! I'll go to practice tomorrow. Thanks thanks thanks. Regards from Mexico
Thank you so much! I have been playing violin for years but i have never gotten the hang of vibrato. My teacher has helped me a lot but it hasn't worked. Thanks to you i can now do a decent vibrato while playing. Thanks :))
Been watching vibrato videos for quite a while and finally found one that works out for me! Even though it's only a short burst, at least it's something, thank you!
Thank you soooooooo much for this great lesson on vibrato!!!!!!!!!! I'm taking baby steps like you say, and I have to be patient with myself. You just gave me a real boost in excitement that I will eventually get to make those beautiful sounds if I don't give up.
This is perfect! I'm a teacher and have been really struggling with ways to teach vibrato but this video gave me some great ideas. Great examples for a difficult concept!
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation on using this technique. It was really explained very clearly, allowing me to be able to understand how to do Vibrato. :)
This is the first video of yours that I have watched. I like the manner in which you teach. I am a teacher as well, but for the piano. I have a violin and am interested in learning how to play it. I will definitely be watching your series and practicing daily. And hopefully, I will upload some piano lessons soon. Thank you for being an inspiration.
I have forever been searching videos on the different ways of vibrato. thanks to you, my questions are now finally answered. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!! i, have now discovered that i do vibrato differently than everyone else. When people talked about hand and wrist vibrato, i believed i was doing hand and wrist. turned out i dont do that, nor arm and finger vibrato. I do it a totally different way. I twist my wrist. I probaly came up with this method since i'm lef handed. But thank you so much.
wow, thanks...i needed this lesson so much. ive started working on my grade 6 violin, yet my teacher has never introduved me to vibrato. im dying to learn how to do it. thing is, when i have asked my teacher, he always said that vibrato is more like a natural gift...showed me briefly how to do it, and never mentioned it again to me. so im trying to get to it on my own now...so thanks from teh heart for this vid!
you sir at an angel. I thought so 10 years ago when I first saw this video, and I'm still watching to figure out my vibrato! I think I finally am getting it! 🤞
very helpful and informative! I just started learning vibrato and am still at the tortured-cat-noises stage, but feeling much more prepared after watching this :)
professor this is VERY helpful. i have learnt the violin for 2 years and have never been able to do this. my teacher told me that i have to 'feel' it but i was never thought the proper technique to do it. thank you so much for making videos like this they are very very helpful! =)
Thank you. Thank you. And Thank you! I used to think I would never be able to get vibrato. Now It's not as difficult as I thought it'd be. I'm already noticing a difference when I practice thanks to this video. :]
This video is so complete and very well explained, congratulations, even english is not my first language, I understood everything and got every detail. It helped a lot, seriously, thanks you.
i got to play a violin for the first time in 9 years today :) i couldn't get vibrato whatsoever xD i hope to be getting a violin maybe in the summer and i'll definitely be watching all these vids when i do! i'm completely head over heels in love with the violin :')
awesome man, I'm the concert master for my orchestra, which isn't so experienced in play and your videos have helped our beginners tremendously, thanks again....
VERY GOOD EXPLAINATION!!! Yes, you're right... I wasn't aware that I used my finger joints... I'm following this... Hope I get it right now... take care.
WOW! Thanks for the time and great attention and detail of how the fingers and wrist etal all come into "play" for vibrato...different from guitar starting with the way the guitar and violin are held--Joni
The greatest violin teacher on youtube, no big words no vague ambiguous feel the music kind of talk, just straight forward technique broken down to small steps....love it
Bravisimo Maestro❤!
Thanks. I just bought my first violin at the grand old age of 66. For me the learning process is fun.
Ohh like me !!! Congratulations. Could we be friends for learning??? I' m from Mexico. Regards
