    Hey, a lithuanian here, great video! Thanks! I like North Europe so much, it seems like people here are closer to nature than elsewhere in the sense that we’re not that selective in terms of weather conditions, we appreciate and find ways to enjoy being outdoors any time of a year, summer, winter, spring, autumn, all of the seasons when they kick in, they become distinctive and unique in their own ways and that’s what I really love about this entire region.

    Coming from a Swede. I love Copenhagen, so much to do, cheaper than Stockholm and definitely cheaper than any place in Norway. Plus it's close to Malmö-Lund which are mostly nice too. But Copenhagen is also close to Northern Germany, can just take a boat or train to Hamburg, Kiel, Lübeck or like Danzig/Gdansk or Stettin/Szchszcszhszh...Stettin in Poland etc, people really underestimate Poland as traveling spot, it's beautiful and has come a really long way, the German/Polish bromance is real. Both Oslo and Stockholm are beautiful, but feel kinda isolated from the continent/world. Also Gothenburg should not be forgotten, really nice city to go to with friendly people called Glenn, or Glennings, but only the second best Football team in Sweden, losers. ;)
    Ofc now I did say many good things about Köpenhamn, but you are still Danskjävlar(!), better than 08or, but still Danskjävlar. With love and hugs, resident Eastern Dane.

    Putting lapland on a list of cities/towns is not very fitting since it's a huge area that covers parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. It's like saying "My favourite city in Europe was Italy."
    I agree that Sapmí(as we natives call it) is beatiful but dosn't really fit in to this list.

    Hey, have you ever visited Visby in Gotland, Sweden? It's got a town wall encircled medieval centre, where every summer in august or something, there's a "Medieval week" where people go there dressed up with medieval clothes, with markets and medieval restaurants and everything. Also, on Gotland there are seriously beautiful landscapes with beautiful stacks, especially on the northern connected island called Fårön (sheep island). There are long beautiful white pebble beaches with loads of seastacks, or rauks as they call them. It's definitely one of the more impressive cities/locations to visit in Scandinavia. I live in northern Sweden, but I went to Gotland once and it was truly amazing.

    I might be telling this bloke off for placing the Baltic States in the wrong' box' but now I really must compliment him immensely! That's the way to go - Baltic States are in Northern Europe (Scandinavia contains only Sweden, Norway and Denmark) and it's a fab area to go. Americans usually skip Northern Europe altogether and know very little about it, so it's great to see the region getting more exposure.

      Awesome! There is SOMETHING in that region. Been around Europe but haven't found anything quite like it. I guess the location and influences from all around have made the area very unique. Besides, life is much harder in North which has probably made the people more resilient & rough yet imaginative. And because of that they know how to appreciate every little thing. And in comparison with the rest of the world, the high social status of women (for centuries) doesn't cease to surprise me.

      insane Kake, you're right but only according to modern views. Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania became known as "Baltic countries" when they first gained independence in the aftermath of World War I. Sometime after World War II the term grew to refer to Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania specifically as they were occupied by USSR whereas Finland retained its freedom. Finland is located in Fennoscandia, though.

      Small recomendation then,,, do more than stay around Reykjavík. You see the tourist atractions and the areas that are over flowing with tourists and might see almost nothing. If you do the highway one route you can see quite alot, and depending on when you go, you can catch alot, and i mean alot of festivals. There are festivals for almost 2 months straight every weekend on just the easern part of iceland.

    Have you ever been to Aalborg, Denmark? It's a really great city with a lot of things to explore. "Musikkens Hus" is really great. And the harbour is pretty aswell. But i think most people who visit Aalborg is because of the night life there. Jumfru Ane Gade is this place with all the clubs in one street. I know it's not a big city but i still think it has a lot to offer.

    How do you get around? I really really want to explore the world, Scandinavia especially but It seems extremely expensive. Do you have some kind of trick to get around easier and what do you need to get around?

    • @oktayikiz2855
      @oktayikiz2855 8 років тому

      spiritfinder321. Well don't start your first trip to Scandinavia with Norway or Denmark than. Sweden and Finland expensive but nit as extreme as Norway and Denmark. There are really good Airbnb options in Sweden and Finland and more affordable. Start from Gothenburg because the Western Coast of Sweden is just amazing from Stenungsund down to Halmstad. After like 5-6 days take the train to Stockholm and spend like 5-6 days in Stockholm. 3-4 days are enough in Helsinki and Tallinn.
      Stay at Airbnb Apartments in Sweden because it Will make your time better. There are really good and more affordable hotel options in Tallinn, Estonia actually. Also make sure to cross over to Helsinki, Finland or Tallinn, Estonia with the Tallink Silja Line ferries because İt's the most entertaining, funniest, affordable, beautiful and best way to travel with (İt's just like a swimming 5 star hotel with parties and it can also give some hotel discounts in Helsinki or Tallinn).
      Make sure to take the take the ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki or Tallinn because nothing can beat the natural beauty Of a sunset in the Archipelago of Stockholm during mid April-mid June and August-Mid October.
      I recommend that you travel to Sweden, Finland and Estonia April-25th of June or August-15th Of October. Because than the prices are better and of course better weather and natural beauty as well.
      That' s a way to make a Northern European holiday easier :-)

Has Santa, 'Scanburger' which the yanks should like :p and a cool a museum that I long forget what it was called with national history and the Saami people and stuff. A pretty river you could take the wife to and have a picnic as long as it's not winter because fingers would start falling off then. Nice town though.

    • @princeseroze

      Vilnius does surpass Riga in terms of the grandeur of its churches and cathedrals, skyline of Šnipiškes, greenery (there are woods scattered throughout Vilnius) and the landscape, actually possessing some hills, however, I feel like Vilnius lacks adequate street lighting which causes it not to feel safe (I was near the railway station and in Naujamiestis at night).
      Having said that, baroque just doesn't quite do it *for me*, I prefer the eclecticism and art nouveau of Riga, places like Centrāltirgus, Brīvības piemineklis, Nacionālā opera, Gaismas pils are pretty great, Riga has the best nightlife, so I personally do find Riga superior to Vilnius (that is unless you're going for religious sites). But despite that Tallinn is my favourite of the 3.

    i wouldnt recomend going to Bergen to see fjords, there are 1000 times better places you can go, for example Hardanger, Geiranger, Nordfjord

      +woltersworld you should visit Trondheim. it used to be the capital of norway (it was called "Nidaros" at the time) right after the viking age. it has a large dome where saint. olav was buried. the city has a great history and some exiting places to visit. you could eat at Tyholt tårnet (a restaurant, not good food though), visit Nidarosdomen (its the dome), festningen (fortress) and munkholmen (an island which used to be a prison) its also the third largest city in Norway :) real viking city

      Bergen is a city... Bergen has an airport, harbor and train station. This is a tourist guide... From Bergen there are bus-, ferry-, train-, even helicopter-, tours you can take to the fjords. Or you rent a car. It makes perfect sense to recommend Bergen as the place to go.

    i've lived in helsinki for 10 years now. it's kind of a weird city cuz it's kind of two cities in one. the first city you come across is the imperial jugend style touristy helsinki which is kind of nice yet kind of bland, tacky. then the other city that was built on top of that one after the city was bombed to the ground in many places in WWII, is the shitty pubs, rock clubs, public saunas, movie theaters, interesting shops and ugly soviet style building blocks. the newer apartment buildings are quite nice but there's a big discrepancy between all those styles (blocky 80s style shopping malls right next to attractive old jugend buildings, wtf?) which kind of makes the city tacky, confusing and unattractive at places. it doesn't seem to have a proper city center that really sticks out. it's not a very welcoming city and it's pretty hard to settle down here...visiting is totally different from living here. the people aren't the easiest to get to know to and they have a kind of hard edge to them often tho they're mostly friendly to foreigners and visitors. it's a hard and tough city which comes from its history compared to scandinavian cities. the architecture itself is kind of off putting in many places which is also kind of its charm, i think.

    • @henriklarsen5613
      @henriklarsen5613 10 років тому +5

      I agree,Copenhagen is the largest and in many way most free and fun (from Christiania to the fact that you can buy a beer in any shop for 50cent (75cent if you want a Carlsberg)-Stockholm is nice-a little bit "uptied"and totally expensive.Oslo is a little bit boring (sorry)- it feels like being in a small provincial town..but hey,you don´t go to Norway to visit cities,you go there to see their breathtaking nature..best in Scandinavia!!!

    • @henriklarsen5613
      @henriklarsen5613 10 років тому +2

      It depend how you define it "hovedstadsregionen" (the area around Copenhagen) contains almost 2.000.000 people and are by far the largest in Scandinavia.But you are right if we look at the cities...and rather funny they all have nearly the same amounth of people S:1.373.000 H:1.300.000 C:1.247.000 and then Oslo:627.000.

      svenne -answer. Tromsö Bergen is my top pick. Then the French versaille style 1700es castles of Sweden and the burlesque lifestyle in denmark.
      It is virually impossible to make a list with fewer than 25 places. From Europes grestest beaches in southern sweden and jylland to icelands hotsprings and danish castles to the best family oriented skiresorts and cruiseships.
