- Behind the scenes in a UA-cam gold panning video. What goes into making a video that the average viewer does not see or maybe does not even know happens. I help Pioneer Pauly making is "100 gold pan video" and while he is producing his video I show the viewers what goes into a video like this from the perspective behind the cameras. I still show all the great gold, all the panning, all the scenery and good times, but I also give a bit of insight into what happens that the viewer never sees.

Dan you didn't even mention the cost of the cameras, drones, snuffer bottles, waders, etc. Making videos for us to enjoy is not cheap and I thank all of you for this. It makes my week more enjoyable especially since the closest gold to me is 1200 miles away.
or the opportunity cost of making videos instead of doing something else that might actually pay a reliable salary
costs of most equipment they would already have or get because this is what they like to do for fun, maybe not cameras but ive seen plenty of youtubers using just their phones to make videos, they did this stuff before realizing they could make money doing it, saying that i still believe they should monetize what they are doing, its a no brainer and people that whine about it are idiots

Anytime someone tells me they want to start a youtube channel, I tell them that every 10-minute video represents about 5-8 hours of filming and 16-24 hours of editing.

I loved this video! It waa very informative and interesting how much work goes into making a video that we in turn get to watch for free, so THANK YOU!!!! Anyone who complains about watching ads when watching UA-cam should either not watch UA-cam or pay for the premium package so it's ad free. I assume that almost everyone has another job to help offset the costs of making videos and having patrons who are willing to help out is amazing (I only wish I could afford to be a regular patron, but I know I can always purchase some amazing merchandise to help out). Thank you again to everyone who puts so much time, effort, thought and dedication into creating amazing content to share with the world.

I wonder where the original commenter got that info though. I think he's older than 50 (esp since he just had heart surgery), but not 70.

Kudos to all of you for putting these together. Love all your videos and I don't miss even one of Pauly's. I have tried my hand at panning and it is a real challenge depending on the dirt, rocks and water temp turning your fingers to isicles. I did not last beyond a few pans. Much easier to watch you do it and I get just as excited at what you find!!!

I know very well how much cost make video, I'm working in Italy for 20 years like a independent film producer, after that the last 10 years I'm working like technicians or key grip guys so all my life have to do with different videos. And now in Canada after I sold anything I make my video with only my cellphone editing to, different life, different country, different way to make cheap video. I enjoy more than usual because explained exactly how hard is a hobby work. Your video I like it, pauly video have different prints because behind work a guy knows is way, I mean he does his job, but u do great to. Thank Dan 😊

You all make it look simpler than it really is. I've never doubted what it must take to share your day with us. As a poor, simple man myself, living off of Soc Sec retirement, it makes it very hard to monetarily support the videos made by you and Pauly and others. I must say that between the two of you, I'm quite entertained and would love to join you now and then. Not for the gold but for the fun to get outside in that beautiful country.
My only hope is by subscribing and clicking Like for each video, in some small way I support what you do so I can see more and more.

Dan, 70!, I’m impressed with your energy level. I’m 74 and no so energized.
Ya know what, Mr. Hurd? I greatly enjoyed all the explanation, extra material, and more mundane content. For me, it's much more realistic, which is one of the main reasons I opt for some content creators above others.
If nothing at all, your time is valuable, and the time involved in filming, setting up different shots, as you said sometimes scouting locations and such and then the editing time, cost of a decent computer to edit on, decent camera to record with, audio equipment and so on.
All of those who have decide to make a part or full time job out of providing original content on the YT deserve probably a lot more in financial compensation than the ads provide, hence you see merchandise, and other products, subscription videos and patreon.

8 hours or more outside then many many hours of editing for a 30 min video is normal for sure.

Being a social media influencer is a business, just like CBS. However we the viewers get to relate to the influencers in a closer way than we get to relate to TV celebrities. The videos are automatically microtargeted to the viewers' interests. Celebrities don't work for free, neither should Dan Hurd. I'm glad you put this out there.

The Idea of someone Complaining about the mentioned "problems" is ridiculous when you are on a Free to watch platform, watching a video for free... and if you are watching the video at all I would imagine it's because you are interested in the content. These guys are putting in A TON of time and effort and money into providing this content for anyone who wants to watch it. They absolutely deserve to gain any income they can from this and any other means they can. ( and i am a guy who refuses to pay for cable because I HATE commercials, i refuse to even listen to radio because i cant stand commercials) that being said I hate having to skip commercials like anyone else .... just do it. it wont kill you . Dan provides great, entertaining videos about his passions and share his knowledge with anyone who is willing to put in the time to listen. How does anyone have the need to complain about the most mundane things ??? Keep doing the great job you are doing Dan ! The complainers are the minority... let their comments fall on deaf ears :)
