The patch is now live! I went out and tested this method and confirmed that you can now undo a mistake made while picking a lock and it no longer consumes a digipick. This means you can now open any lock using only a single digipick using this trick. Thanks for watching!
Also, every ring in the lock can be solved with two keys. Something to keep in mind. You'll also notice the inner rings change color as well to indicate if the current key fits any of the subsequent rings. If you use the Eliminate Unused Keys at the onset of solving the lock, you'll only be left with the 4, 6, or 8 keys required to solve the whole thing.
This ‘eliminate unused keys’ trick is really cool! I pride myself in being a good lock picker but I was misusing that elimination of keys at the beginning of every hard lock scenario. Now I won’t be spending the option at every lock and thus saving an extra digipick! I do carry over 400 digipicks but it is good to save wasting one at the start of every lock picking scenario needlessly.
This is made even more trivial by the fact that undo no longer costs a pick. Bleh. It's already easy enough. Once you can see the blue rings, find the pattern with the most pins that only fits that one ring, and use it. Rinse and repeat.
Word. What a silly thing for Bethesda to make easier. (Maybe make Void Form actually work?) Never mind that picks cost next to nothing to buy. Oh well.
I usually delete the wrong ones costing one pick..... Then if it looks like there are too many multiple use options then I use the auto option and that usually leaves one correct for the first level that is easy to work out.... Then the next three levels are alot easier to deduce the correct choices....
Maybe it is just me, but I am only level 3 and I don't really have trouble picking locks. I don't use a key until I get the pattern of which keys fit where and rarely fail. Maybe I just see the patterns more than most?
Untill you mentioned the up-coming patch change, I was lost. As untill then, currently it just seemed a waste undo Digi-picks. So in a future context this will be a really useful tip, if the patch delivers as indicated.
I found lock picking such a ball ache, I just didnt bother. And 9 times out of 10 the rewards beyond the door wasnt worth the hassle. But after seeing this I may have another crack at it, trying to crack it.
I slept on lock picking for awhile but I found 2 of my best weapons in a locked crates. After-awhile you get in a flow and it's much easier. Those really, really small lock boxes had the weapons in them A legendary god roll sniper and a vaarun god roll particle rifle. After I found those it's hard to skip locked boxes.
There’s a much easier way to do it on a piece of paper write a grid of circles 4 wide four deep to match the door being picked highlight each one of the circles in the game and on the paper right above that circle every cylinder it will interact with 123 or four moving to the next cylinder do the same thing if it doesn’t react with any cylinders simply X out that circle on the paper now you know it doesn’t get usedonce you’ve established all 12 of the cylinders and their associated slots 1234 start from the inside of the lock, working your way out for compatibility lineup all the cylinders once you get to the outside ring simply look at your paper and they’re all registered properly and move forward opening the lock takes moments
My eyes are bad, it changes from white to off white. I'm at the point in the game where I see a lock and I think "is it worth my time?". In other words, the loot is usually not worth the time invested.
Ummm… it costs one digi pick every time you undo one of the wrong moves. Or, you could use one pick to eliminate all of the wrong possible choices. I’m not sure the undo method is the most efficient use of your picks 😊
Agreed, lot of effort for no change in outcome (other than expending excessive digipicks). It is a good way to double-check yourself if the solution is ambiguous though!

That's true. But once the patch goes into effect you'll be able to solve every lock with a single key using my method.
Good tip. Game changer that they changed to let us undo without spending a key
I think it's still in the beta but should be released any day now.
As many of these friggin' locks as I've attempted/picked, and I never made this connection! Thanks!
Thank you , excellent tip 👍👍👍

400?!? Dat's a lot of digipicks...
Good tip! I have quit digipicking things because it’s rarely worth the time. But this might be a good reason to start up again

Thank you. I'd never noticed.

Very useful. I hate picking locks. Why can’t I just blow the safes up?

The master locks are so infuriating
Awesome! Never knew this!!! Thanks
thanks great little trick
interesting video what happens if you press the key eliminate unused picks right at outset ? will that stop making mistakes?
I didn't notice either the white/greyed out text or even the blue/white rings.
Glad to help!
Thank you!

I kind of enjoy the digipick minigame but I also hate that I never find anything really good.
