- Breath of Fire is a role-playing video game series developed by Capcom. It originated on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993. The series is notable for its recurring characters and ambiguous continuity; though each game is its own self-contained story, the names of the two lead characters are usually Ryu and Nina.
The story commonly involves an adventurer named Ryu (name usually changeable) who can shapeshift into different types of dragons. Over the course of his journey, he befriends Nina, a girl with wings. At its inception, Breath of Fire took place in a medieval fantasy style fictional world. Following the mainstream success of Japanese role-playing games in the 1990s, the series began using the original anime-style artwork for later Western releases of the games (rather than the Westernized art that was drawn specifically for the Western releases of the first two games), post-apocalyptic themes, and an increased emphasis on character development. Despite these changes, the core structure of Breath of Fire remains largely linear and plot-focused. As of 2016, six Breath of Fire titles have been released, with three games being ported to handheld game consoles as well as Nintendo's Virtual Console, and two ported to the Nintendo Switch's Super NES games library. By 2020, the series had sold over 3.2 million copies.

Breath of Fire 4 (2000) is my favorite
Capcom needs to revive this IP and not focus so much on resident evil and monster hunter
I could wish for the same honestly.
My bro told me that it depends on what the executives at Capcom would consider what's currently selling well and sticks it. That is why they focused on Resi and MonHunt so much. Worst contender is they don't bother with Darkstalkers, because they know casual gamers prefer something like Street Fighter, as that one has actual humans using their fists to fight, not monsters with weird things, so they can relate to it.
As much as I hoped for a new BOF or MML3, voting doesn't matter, because they will only stick to the current popular thing more.
I don't mean to sound cynical. It's just that I've hoped and hope for something good to happen but eventually got so tired of disappointments and just choose to let go and come to terms about it.
Same goes for Darkstalkers, Cyberbots, Project Justice, Demon’s Crest…
No one one cares about this niche garbage
1-4 is the best of the series

@@carloslarareyes5205 3 was better than 4 but 4 is still 9.5/10. Wish the story was handled more conclusively. Apparently they only had 9 months to make the game.

Man! I really wish we get a new sequel if not a legacy collection on newer consoles will also do for me.
We do not talk about Breath of Fire 6, that aside, it would be great if Capcom decided to revive this franchise through a reboot.

I don't want to talk Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter. It felt more like a revamp remake rather than a sequel or prequel. The fifth almost removed everything what the previous four Breath of Fire games elements it had before. Including Breath of Fire 6. At least the Breath of Fire 6 brought back the fantasy setting, anthropomorphic creatures and the concept of rebirth and bloodline generations. And, it had a reference to Mega Man Volnutt. The main protagonist of the Mega Man Legends series.
However they didn't bring back the combat. They made bof6 some weird auto battler.
They could stop in the iv 😅
The people here trashing V seem really salty. It was a great game that just felt different to Breath of Fire games.
3 has good story, 4 is amazing in all aspects except the story which is kinda ok-ish, 5’s game direction and music are the best.
This series didn't deserve the ending it got.

I cleared that game 11 times now and even got the 1/4 ratio. Easily one of my most satisfying gaming achievements of all time. That game is so awesome.

BOF III the best in the franchise, incredible gameplay and context, deserves a remake. 🐉
Why 5 looks so odd???
I dont understand why you would only show the battle screen for some games and the overworld for others. would be nice to compare the overworlds or battle screens.
Breath of Fire 6 should be redone use the same characters and then add some bonus characters that way you have 8 party members like we used to back in BOF1 and 2. 6 are the main characters and 2 recruitable bonus characters. They should adapt the battle system from BOF5 which shakes things up with a cohesive story
BoF 3 was my favourite, and I never got to play 4 but it looked amazing. I tried 5 and felt violated.
I highly recommend you play BoF 4. Trust me, it will be an amazing experience. I myself have played it for 4 times and it still holds up to this day. Currently planning to replay it some more !
4 was better in my opinion, more skill combos, more dragons, more characters, more mini games, deeper story, etc. You should really try it.

Capcom such a failed company anymore. I could tell they stopped giving a fuck when I played BoF4. The UI was a step backwards from 3 and the character background/development was just lazy.
Oh no no no, IV and II are the absolute best of the series!!
And you like being able to only turn into the “warrior” dragon during combat? I remember in 3 there was a whole gene system that let you pick what you transformed into.
Also Cray is just a lazy recollection of Rei only with a stick up his ass.
@@clydecash5659 yeah it felt lazy, especially with the map system, went from walking in the world to just moving cursor in a map, i was quite disappointed when theres no actual dragon transformation for Ryu, the gene splicing was definitely one of the best if not the best mechanics in the franchise (in my opinion), other than that i still like BoF4 combo mechanics

but you will definitely need it because the map is huge dude, I don't think walking back from Chedo in the West to Wyndia in the East is a fun experience.
I first played 4 and knew 3 after, I still like 4 better. The gene splicing look awesome tho
