Yes but apart from the dirt master, all the kyoshos rere buggys are far too expensive (for me) + the dyna storm rere would be nice
BBX was the peak for Tamiya in 2023. They desperately need to include bearings for 2024.
BBX has my attention, as well as maybe an MB01 2wd with a different body, Squash Van possibly, and maybe an XV02 RS , or....?
Racing RCs take up most of the funds lately though...
The BBX was probably the high point for Tamiya recently I'd think. The Kyosho re-re's are awesome as usual, I have heard that there is, or has been, a kind of gentlemans agreement between Tamiya and Kyosho over the years not to directly compete with each other. So Kyosho does what they do, and Tamiya the same, just in relatively different ways.
And Mr Tamiya, if you are watching, please do another run of the Honda City Turbo, please!!! (I recently saw one on the bay for 4k in my money, AUD, so ~2.5k GBD?).
I have some good news RCRick!!!I was able to unload 2.5k of nice japanese plastic last week!!!
Thanks for your time! ❤
My pleasure!
No mention of the Golf mk2 GTI? I thought this body was a brilliant effort by Tamiya this year.
I do think both Kyosho and Tamiya need to develop a new mounting system to replace the tired old body posts on some of their new models. Increasing that scale realism and appearance ought to be a cost effective way to increase the perceived value for money 💰
I did think about adding the GTI but its not one many are talking about. Could be that the MF-01x has been around for ages. I will keep an eye out for a body set myself.
Yes, discreet body fixings would be a nice move for Tamiya.
I've used magnets for a while now as I can't stand the plastic posts either.
@gazzaswayne2650 not all bodies or kits are suited to magnets unfortunately. Especially if they're pre-cut 🫤
To be honest there have been some really good RC releases this year, from Kyosho and Tamiya especially. The big problem, as you rightly pointed out, is the price of a lot of these kits. They are far too expensive in the UK, especially for some of the Tamiya stuff. For me Tamiya could improve their kits massively by including bearings and oil filled dampers on all their kits without hiking the price to the moon, but I doubt they will, they seem to do what they want to do and not listen to us, the consumers. And mentioning the TA08, it does have a major weakness in the chassis at the rear, I know of a lot of people who have broken their chassis in the same way, from very gentle impacts. And the spares support just isn't there either, not just with the TA08 but other kits. Oh well, business as usual I suppose.....
I ABSOLUTELY agree with you Gavin about Tamiya. They need to step up and release something spectacular and what everyone wants and NOT another TT-02. Kyosho killed it with the mid, I think that will sell out. I personally LOVE it. If Marui re released the ninja...well that would be EPIC!
Ive never expected tamiya to bring out new kits, but the BBX was a good one, but yeah. A Dyna storm would be good. But lets face it, its gonna be a £400 plus kit 🤔 but lets address the biggest issue seen in this vid, adding the milk so early on to your brew 😮
LOL
TD2 Astute might not be the prettiest - but pretty good for carpet racing with a couple of hop-ups
Masterfully done and well stated video. Gav leading the charge in putting Tamiya on notice of what we want! I really enjoyed this video and agree with you on everything. However, I do like my TD4 Super Avante. While not the greatest looking buggy, i have upgraded it to resolve those issue and it drives awesome on our backyard track. I think the way it drives overshadows its looks and for that I'm kind of in love with mine lol... Keep up the great work.
I think that's the main issue Ari, it's so close to being good. I also liked the chassis and as you say, once you fix the wheel rim colour, weak servo mount, front driveshafts and alloy diff nut issues, it's not a terrible chassis and it drives OK. For me, I just can't get past the looks. Glenn did the F1 Benz style livery on an aftermarket body and that will be as good looking as I think it's ever going to get. I just can't see Tamiya getting much out of the TD4 and TD2 for all the money and effort that went into it. I could be 100% wrong and in five years it's collectable.
I only went for the Kyosho C2C and JJ because they come with special 60th parts. The mid prototype needs something extra in the box.
Speaking of kicking butt, did you see the Kyosho Tacoma TRD Pro coming out next month? I am all over that! Going to add LEDs. Hope to see that one on the channel!
I believe that if tamiya rereleased all the old f1’s it would be a big hit.
I agree
Great episode ! Thanks Gav.
I agree with you Gavin, I actually went for the yokomo dog fighter on the survey and I agree that Tamiya need to do a re-re of the dyna storm and maybe the stadium blitzer, Kyosho should do the optima mid SP as well I’d definitely buy one of those.
This was brilliant. Great topic. Very thoughtful opinion. Thank you!!
Kyosho releases future collector items, Tamiya releases toys 🧸 for kids. Can’t wait for next years releases from Tamiya. The mb01 is embarrassing, we needed a 4wd belt driven m chassis from Tamiya. Would be cool to see a new TRF, and the TA09
Tamiya just give us an 959 and a falcon and all will be forgiven
I actually like the Super Avante and Astute 2022. They're great to drive, and handle best out of most Tamiyas (not sure about compared to the top force).
Awesome video Gavin!
❤❤❤ we ok love your products I would like to see the blazing Blazer with the remote with it 😊 so you can shift gears
Dirt master, bbx and cougar classic are all that's tickled my fancy recently.
Mainly cause i don't do shelf queens and race them all along side my race kits.
I only need to mention three numbers for Tamiya to have a great 2024….. NINE FIVE NINE! They have to make it happen soon!
I think your bang on. Tamiya have dropped the ball lately. Would love to see a Dynastorm. I'm new to the channel and have to say I really enjoy your work, it's light hearted and factual. Keep up the great work.
😊 I totally agree i really think kyosho released some awesome kits but on all the 60th anniversary limited edition kits like the gold fantom jj replica an the 87 prototype I think they could of made the kits look much better and at the very least they could of numbers them etched in the bottom of the chassis would of chassis would of been very cool
I totally agree!
The Tamiya 58688 Land-cruiser 300c is Awesome #1 release 🔥 I think for sure this kit will have the money value as a collector over all the 2023 releases . Trust me when you see this in person and what you can do with it is just amazing
I agreed with most everything Gav. I could rant about it for a long time but you hit most everything in a nutshell. I will say I am not overly impressed or thrilled about the limited edition stuff from Kyosho. With how short stocked they always are on these kits all there re-release stuff is limited edition! LOL!
Very good point Adam.
Limited stock on parts has become the normal these days and I really don’t understand why it’s like this for Kyosho and Tamiya. It really does impact the choice on what you can and can’t vintage race or even what you run or don’t. It’s a shame for sure
Rckicks I'm glad you highlighted the Jrx2. Hopefully they'll listen an make it 1/10 scale.
We can only hope.
good one interesting cant wait what they come up with
The 131 is going to be popular I'm sure. It is such an iconic car for any 70's rally fan. or Fiat fans as a whole.
Especially if they later release the same kit but in the Alitalia livery.
You're so right Gavin! That new Pajero...yikes! Tamiya...what are you thinking? It's the first release that has come out that I've genuinely said..."yeah...that's never going to be on the list". Even the latest Squash Van is a bit of a disappointment as it comes PRE-PAINTED! As a first release they usually come unpainted and release a painted version after the fact. But I'm excited about the Super Sabre!! Great stuff as always.
Agreed, tamiya need to pull their finger out for 24. Need a 959 or quattro re-re
I agree with the dyna storm. I have the kyosho jj ultima and happy with the build . It goes with my vintage modified ultima and the rere ultima.😂
Good shout Gav dyna storm and king cab 🤩
I think you're partly right Gav regarding the high prices but i've found that because rc is so popular right now, there's always someone willing to pay top prices. I get asked to sell one of my Blazers weekly for crazy money so I think high end new releases like the JJ will still sell enough to make the likes of Kyosho a profit as I bought one myself. I've always been hooked on rc so I almost feel like I need it. Crazy I know
Kyosho has released so many stunning bodies on that 1/10 on-road platform now. On-road isn’t my thing, but I do appreciate how nice they look.
I have the hot shot block head and wild one NIB and have no desire to build them. Just like my 2015 Monster Beetle. I will build the black one I have.
There needs to be a TT02 Cybertruck
Great content Gavin, Ive purchases about 5 tamiya kits this year and last year. With the increase in RC prices and having just bought the Traxxas UDR, the new Losi Baja Ray, the Pro moto and and Redcat lowrider as well as a Losi drag truck and a Kyosho dodge charger, Ive started doing slot cars which are typically$50-$100 and and building up my track, my youtube channel. I still want to be in the RC space but its becoming cost prohibitive.
Yep making RC content is extremely expensive these days
Bring on the 959!! 😊
I still want a Kyosho Raider
Second that dude 🙌🏻
@@theoagrc it was my first car… so sentimental!
@@GuyOnTwoWheels mine was the same pal. It was used and driven hard. I am lucky enough to still have it albeit just for the shelf now. I have a runner that gets it now 🤣
@@MyFart21 wow! That is amazing dude!! I would love to see a NIB one come back around as I think a vintage NIB is beyond me at this point. I love my Raider and think it could be a nice entry level Legendary kit for Kyosho but I am probably dreaming!!
@@MyFart21 You are a genius! Wish I would have done that! Haha!
Great episode....
SRX is for higher bathtub classes while the TA08 runs in another category (flat chassis) also offers longitudinally motor mount that allows 10,5T torque, plenty of chassis flex for low grip tarmac, sway bars… try it out! You’ll like it!
I am looking to see how much the TA08S will be as I like the look of the chassis.
Kyosho is an amazing RC company, with a unique brand status quo and we all buy from them. Let's be honest though. How many new chassis have they released in the last 4 years? All the vintage stuff is old chassis, yes one has to admit the buggies look stunning, but even the dirtmaster is an old chassis. They are not bringing out anything new on the racing side (apart from evolutions of the Inferno). All the novelty is on Mini-Z chassis. Tamiya has produced at least 5 new chassis: TC-01, DT4, DT2, XV-02, TA-08.
Good vid Gav, enjoyed that one ta mate. And you get your milk in bottles!!!!! Personally hanging in for a Madcap........
Kyosho are definitely knocking it out the park for me with their latest releases but then i prefer race buggys.
Interesting comparing the jj ultima to the cougar the jj falls into an earlier age category in some of the events so its going to be mega competitive (up against topcats , 6gear rc10s and meteors) so I think a fair few will be raced next year and racers love that competitive edge 🤣
the message to tamiya😄 😜 👊 👍
Great video and update of all vintage re-release...great content and structure
Agree with everything here - really enjoyed this video and helped take my mind of upper jaw and sinus pain caused by an infected tooth! Dentist for me so no Tamiya this month sadly 😢😢
Thank you for the subtle hint aimed at Marui. Are you going to follow up on this one and see if we can entice them to do a series of Re releases? Please let me know if I can help with that one :-)
Do we need a "chat" about tea making protocols!
HEHEHHEHEH
I went with picking one truck and one buggy. USA-1 and the VQS
I'll have a cup of tea as well 😊
Totally wright Gavin👍👍 Cool video
Summed up my own feelings pretty well here. Kyosho is currently making more interesting releases than Tamiya although they are overpriced. The Yokomo rerelease will do well I’m sure although the works 91 has a much nicer body style for me and one of the nicest box arts paint schemes of any vintage model so I hope the 870c does well so we get to see this as a follow on release. The Procat and Cougar make more affordable and more sensible buys if you live in the UK and want to actually be able to drive or race them.
The second hand prices have really fallen a lot. I think this is a combination of the economy and having come out of the pandemic where so many people returned to RC cars for something to do during lockdowns. The premium vintage cars like the Avante and Egress have also become much easier to get hold of which has pushed their values down (the upside is parts availability is also much better).
It will be interesting to see if that also pulls down the cost for the rere market. If we consider the potential vintage market I think Kyosho and Schumacher have the most exciting options to choose from. Dyna Blaster/Storm and King Cab would be nice too!
King Cab and Toyota Hilux are long overdue Re-re
I wish Team Associated would release the gold RC10 again. I missed out on the reissue. SMH!
100% Team Associated are missing out so much.
@@MyFart21 I had one in 1989, but sold it in high school, SMH. it was bullet proof compared to my boomerang and hornet.
bring out the falcon, 959, original rally celica
Whatever happens, Tamiya remains Tamiya... for the oldest of us ! But for younger generations, they clearly need to propose something New, without forgetting their solid roots!
Great video Gav
A release of the Porsche 959 Dakar and Celica GRB that would be good.
Hi Gavin I was on a RC shop and they had the Tamiya Rough Rider listed as coming back it to stock.🤔🤔
Yep!
I'm always checking the web, and wishing that Tamiya would finally get it though their corporate head, to release the one kit A WHOLE BUNCH OF US want, and that's the Paris-Dakar Porsche 959!!! That thing would be an instant sell out!! I've been out of the hobby for many years (well over 20) but I would be 1st in line for one!
I did a video on it a few weeks ago
@@RCKickschannel REALLY? I will DEFINITELY check it out when I get home. Look forward to seeing what you said about it. 👍
Very nicely presented video Gavin and sone great points made , I’m very much loving the JJ , it builds well and drives really nicely, yes a little pricey but im happy with it , it’s a good product. Sticking my neck
Out here I’ve got the Mitsubishi Pajero it’s certainly weird looking and quirky band I like that but it’s mainly a lunchbox with different wheels , easy enough to change them , the selling point for me was the body and I didn’t wants lunchie 😆
Agree with just about everything Gavin... especially about the JJ rere, its cool and all but wasn't an available kit when we were building rc back in the day. At that price i would buy a current 2wd racing buggy. They would be way better off recreating the vintage buggies. Would love a dynastorm as well. imo schumacher has it going on with their releases and their price points as well as their available replacement parts and up grades. Keep up the great content!
Look forward to seeing the Yokomo Dogfighter 😀😀🥇 BBX seems a great release from Tamiya to 😊😊 Pete
100%, I'm super excited for the DF as well :)!
Love the vid Gavin….I to have….errr well let’s say a yellow and a red one.
For me is the javelin
I dont know witch one to take, but i go more fore Tamiya..i am waiting on the citroen ds that is coming...i want to use it for drifting. I like the building part that Tamiya has
I personally think the tamiya Astute is kinda cool looking!!
100% Agree. Also, sorry you guys across the pond get hosed with pricing.
I love my SRX. it does great on the track and speed runs.
‘Ang on a minute! That’s not how to make a nice cuppa , you don’t put the milk until the teabag’s out tuttut🙄🙄🤣
What sort of monster are you? You add the milk after removing the teabag. It gives the tea time to infuse with the water. Now if you are using a teapot, add the milk to the mug then pour in your tea😉🫖☕️
@@EarlX99 😂😂😂
Apart from the BBX, tamiya have been disappointing in 2023 , they really need to sort it out for 2024
Nah
Waiting on Tamiya to re re the Falcon! Fingers crossed for next year...
What about the Squash Van? That looks good to me.
Kyosho is just maximising its income by producing limited edition reproductions with subtle changes to keep a limited audience making repeat buys.
Probably trying to recover the outlay of the initial purchase price of the company.
It'll be interesting to see what new stuff they come up with.
Some good points 👍🏻
I would like to see really retro ones from both Kyosho and Tamiya. From Kyosho, such as Rally Sports, Super Sports, Mach Sports, and Circuit Buggy (1:8 and/or 1:10). From Tamiya, you know the usual suspects such as Lamborghini Countach CS, F1 CS, Can Am Lola, Porsche 959, F2, and so on.
Why hasn't Kyosho re-released their classic 2wd monster trucks! Those things will be gone as soon as they're announced!
I have been looking for a Kyosho Big Brute kit for YEARS. I would be over the moon if they re-re'd those!
I'm still waiting for the F201 re re
I like tamiya novelty but i like kyosho quality
Yep Kyosho have some stunning kits. Turbon Optima is one of the best i've ever built.
I'm surprised at the Mid Proto result given that it's just a parts bin special - but how many people are actually going to buy one though?
Dyna Storm and Bigwig re-res should be easy to do and popular for Tamiya, I'd buy both!
That is a good point, we will have to see. I did hear it was a bit slow on the early deposit placement but I guess only time will tell.
@@RCKickschannel MB Models put up 50 for pre-order on the day of announcement and they still have 35 left. In contrast, they had a similar amount of JJs when announced and they sold out in a day or so. Very different demand for actual purchase of the two models from what I can see.
Great video though Gavin, it prompts some thought and debate!
That ninja 4×4 you whipped out early in the video was my first rc hobby grade car, what a awesome car that was exepting for the bushes instead of bearings, but I bet that's easy to fix these days right ? Damn I miss that car lol, and nowhere to be found these days here in South Africa 👎
I think the reason why all of the TT02’s are being released is because there is a lot of club racing going on and and gives people options to buy new versus upgrade something they already have
What we really need is the re issue of SRB chassis Ford Ranger. They have all the need to re issue it, but still not done
I don't know about you, but personally, the mini buggy has been a hit for my 5 year-old son, who I introduced to RC with the Losi Mini-B... Now, I do agree with you on some level that if you're going to do a mini buggy, it's probably best to do it based on something modern. If you're going to release a vintage buggy, it should probably be the actual buggy, updated for use with modern electronics, like what Tamiya and Kyosho have been doing.
As for Marui - are they even around anymore? As I haven't heard the name since the late 80's, I thought they had disappeared... Did someone buy their assets, or are they stlll around, but just serving the Asian market? While the Ninja was legendary back in the day, let's just say that the quality of some of the other buggies left something to be desired.
I'll be honest - While I understand that costs went out of control a few years back (due mostly to the insane distribution costs), the industry better plan to scale back a bit if they want to continue attracting newcomers - or even long time fans of the hobby. The price jumps on existing kits were eye-watering to say the least, and new kits continue to get more expensive. I fear the day that this much beloved hobby will spiral into the "luxury" class, leaving most people on the outside looking in. ☹ We're going to have to continue that "is RC dying?" conversation that's been active for about 25 years already.
Msrp for ta08r is a staggering usd$720 but it includes every option available and a few other updates that make it probably the best non-trf touring for some time. Lets hope the actual price is not what they put as the msrp…
Totally agree ! I build a lot of Tamiya trucks for people and their latest heavy hauler truck when released was just short of £1,000 here in the U.K. where it was around £630 in Europe !! Come on play the game ! Did have bearings though ! Shame they weren’t sealed so you had to replace them anyway if you wanted to use it outdoors ! A lot more people asking for the Chinese stuff as it’s different and much better value for money and the quality is much much better than it used to be. Clock the Cross RC recovery truck I put on the site at the weekend, everything is in the box except for a couple of servos and your radio gear. Think the likes of Tamiya whilst trying to get new bits out are lagging behind and the Chinese have caught up ! Remember the British motorcycle industry ?! Lol 😂
The more manufacturers that start to get into the re-releasing retro stuff as well as the current ones then the market is going to start to become more saturated. I agree if companies don't get a re-release right either by not releasing the right model people want or not getting the price point then sales will start to drop
Marui Ninja would sell so well if the ReRe'd it . a King cab would also sell in huge numbers.
Gav! That was shocking tea making from an Englishman. There’s Americans watching, they might think that’s the correct way to make tea. 😮
I didn't drink it, I just filmed it. Obviously, one uses a tea pot darling, what do you think I am?
all fare well for kyosho to put all these cars out but they also need to supply parts for them and make them more available !!!
For me kyoshos are way to expensive. It’s a shame as I think they are amazing. I just cannot justify having it sat on a shelf and kyosho parts are a problem if you run them and break something. The prototype is stunning though
Nice vid, but where's the Super Sabre 🧐🤔 Will probably get the Yok 😇
Would love to see more 1/10 Scale from Kyosho. 2WD and 4WD would be nice so I can race them against the other new cars out there. I am a big Kyosho fan.
Who purchased Kyosho? I must have missed that?
The Tamiya BBX is easily the best release for 2023
I’m wanting a Stadium Thunder re re from Tamiya and a Super Astute and as for Kyosho I will just buy a Dirtmaster and paint it like a JJ
The Kyosho JJ might be an anniversary model but it just isn't very interesting for me. The colour scheme isn't enticing at all. Kyosho might be having a splurge of releases but once the anniversary is over it'll all go guiet. They have relied on the Mini-Z for a long time now but that old technology can't go on forever at the prices they are try to sell them for. The BBX on the other hand is a good all-round package and probably the high point for Tamiya in a great many years. The cost is on the high side but order from Hong Kong and you can get it delivered to UK for 2/3 of the price. I see there are various aftermarket parts starting to appear for it as well. As for Yokomo, I think the brand isn't well known enough outside the die-hard fans to have much of an impact. I see the Chinese RC manufacturers really starting to establish themselves a lot more in 2024. There are some good brands that have interesting new products and high quality parts, as well as lower prices.
Yes pricing is Key for most of us.
I second that these days.
Step up tamiya
