R171 Hydraulic Pump replacement (Chapter 4)

Demonstrates how to replace your existing pump with a rebuilt pump from Top Hydraulics. The last part of the video deals with maintaining your current pump and adding hydraulic fluid to the proper level.

Thank you so much for this set of videos. Yes, there's very little correct info on this subject anywhere on the web. Yours is the best I've seen. We've only had my wife's 2006 SLK 280 for 6 months. The leaking front roof ram is the third problem and now that I'm halfway through it I can see where update may help others. Not to say your videos are not great, But for the person who needs to change just one ram, knowing some shortcuts and where the pump is could be helpful. Turns out my car had already had the front ram replaced in the past and it was failing. I rebuilt the ram. Note: drilling a hole in the ram to remove the C clip is risky. I used a Dremel Tool and cut down to the ring. My biggest problem was not knowing exactly where the pump is located. After removing more the a few panels a search of the pump location only found ONE photo. The pump is located right between the role bars and just below the top deck. Removing this panel is a pain and knowing what I do now, I would have cut the front facing panel with a Dye Grinder or a Dremel so that only a 14 inch section of the panel was removed from the center. Then use some type of sealer on those cuts after the pump was refilled.

I have the same vehicle but my problem is that i open normally the roof and when i pull the button to close the roof they didn't do nothing and appear the message "variable roof" . Did you have any idea for this problem??

How do you bleed the system if air has gotten into it?

so do you need to get the air out of the new lines?

Once you top up the hydraulic fluid you need to open the brass bleeding screw which is seen in that vid and in the German version of Mbownersclub " Mecedes Benz Slk hydraulische Druckprüfung abschliessen"..open with a Allen key ( Hex) top up until " cross Level".. Re mount pump..close bleed valve with hex key..
