The genuine pain on his face when he saw her pack was so heartbreaking. Its clear that between them finding her things up top and then her pack below, he immediately knew she was almost certainly dead from falling. So sad. If I was ever lost, I'd want this man looking for me. Not only because he is so damn good at it, but also because I know he has compassion and a huge heart.

The pain he is experiencing is excruciating and I feel that too…I can’t help but cry at each and every video I watch….it’s really gives you a different perspective of emergency services like this because we all watch and hear about police ambulance and fire services but never mountain rescues which are so different and so much more dangerous and treacherous. I truly appreciate SAR much more now I have more knowledge of their impossible job ❤️

You can follow a river down from a distance but never get into the river bed as that is where cliffs hide/waterfalls hide. Find a safe place to access water if possible. Rainstorms dangerous too. Amazing how water flows can rise very quickly.

About 10 years ago: My father is an experienced hiker...slipped and fell 50ft...landed on a tree and broke his leg...luckily their was a crew of firefighters training in the area...carried him 2 miles back down from Robin's Roost in Mt. yes 1 slip I was walking the sunshine trail in south dakota one winter, and the ice was so so heavy even had my springs on. Well I fuckingslipped started barreling towards the bottom of this hill just digging my fingers into the slush stopping my self. My lady friend, and her bf was there. She helped me back up then we got to our climbing spot, and i was removing my boot, and it literally flew right on off dropped 200ft below back down, so she went down , and grabbed it for me. I was new to mountain hikinh at that time. I wanna work for SAR so bad!

My dad was a skilled mountaineer. He was in a car accident and paralyzed from the chest down, still he went, always solo. After his accident he came out of the coma and had full blown paranoid schizophrenia, he didn't like being around anyone after that. In the Ozarks, he fell 60 feet off a sheer rock face. He climbed back up, using only his hands, but couldn't get out once he made it back up. He died of his injuries out there, it took 3 months to find him.

I had a similar experience up Mt Fuji.
We made it to a resting lodge and woke up at 2 am to hit the summit. Stepping outside there was cloud coverage and it was raining. The hikers in front of me took off and I started walking behind them, when I suddenly realized I couldnt see 5 feet in front of me. I turned around and saw the light bulb of the lodge like a beacon beckoning me to return. At that precise moment I turned around and headed back.
Turned out a huge storm hit the mountain and we had to descend the next morning on the opposite side of Fuji down slippery black ash, no trail...scary stuff.

Sometimes we make mistakes that get us in trouble... we are humans with free will and this young man exercised his and unfortunately it cost him his life. One thing I learn from these videos. If you go hiking, go with a group of at least 3 people. Don't go alone. Two people also might make thing worse while trying to save each other - 3rd person is an anchor. At least chance to survive accidents and someone not doing a stupid thing if something happens.

@@michellengo3352 So? I didn't mean that a lot of people don't get lost. They're just less likely die while getting lost because 2 friends trying to save each other is the stupid thing to do. They will most likely end up doing something that makes both of them to be badly injured or death instead just one.

I recently went on my first multi-day hike on the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island. Luckily, we had exceptionally good weather but it was still quite brutal. My group had been lucky considering how many people we saw stagger into the campsites battered, bruised and with joints taped and so many bears we came across. Thankfully we gave ourselves plenty of time and had a steady but safe pace. The experience really put into our minds just how dangerous hiking can be even on well worn routes, I can't even imagine how difficult it is for you to find these people. Keep it up and stay safe!

I almost tried that trail when I was about 30 years ago with little information about it. Just was taking a group of friends on a hiking trip and it sounded good. We had basically no experience in wet or less than perfect conditions. Sounds challenging from your account. Luckily we chose a trail up some mountain to a place called Forbidden Plateau more in the interior of the island. No issues. Didn’t even think about bears.

The difference between life and death may be as little as 1/4 of an inch. Going down a new trail at night the last week of October, the trail was good enough to be followed with my headlight. I hit a stick with the right foot and it rolled, and my foot broke through the new berm at the side of the trial. My left foot also hit a stick, and I was off the trail going down. It turned out to be nearly 75 feet down. Something green flashed in my light as I kept sliding and I grabbed for it. Cedar trees are very springy and it slowed my fall and swung me across the slope, stopping me in a crevice. That branch was only 1/4 inch thick. And it was another 50 feet to the bottom. I am binge watching your vids and keep thinking how little it would have taken to stop these people from falling. Just one small branch. Or, maybe, it was the small branch that sent them plummeting. We'll never know. Blessings to the family of this woman. Seeing where she was, she was an adventerous spirit. Probably someone I would like to know and have at my back.

very hard terrain, going down on steep terrain is more risky than climb up.

I have hiked some peaks of the Canadian Rockies and just recently bushwacked 90-95 % to get to one of the peaks. It was really hard not to see any clearing and one can easily get lost in the woods when trails are covered by thick bushes. After that experience, I will never bushwack again when possible. Watching several videos of this fellow, I can’t imagine how hikers in the mountains of Taiwan endure such thick woods to get to the peak.
