Pwyll is well loved in the OSP fan community. He's not the brightest bulb, but he does care about other people and has good morals. I also love that he stands by his wife for the entire time she was accused, and didn't believe the accusations once. He couldn't do anything about the legal system punishing her, but I'm pretty sure his belief helped Rhiannon through those hard times before Pryderi was returned.

You might be surprised by how many folktales give most of the agency to the woman. I grew up on folktales and most of them start with Our Hero doing something heroic, say, breaking into a giant's castle to rescue a princess, and then the princess being all "it's about time you showed up" and telling him exactly what to do for the rest of the story.

The funny part about Welsh is that while the spelling seems entirely alien to an English speaker, its actually pretty much phonetically one-to-one (one letter for one sound), making it easy to pronounce any word once you learn what each letter represents. The issue is that a lot of the letters are pronounced entirely differently from their English usage. The best examples here are Welsh 'w' which makes the sound of English 'oo' or 'u', while Welsh 'll' makes a unique phoneme that doesn't exist in English, called a lateral fricative. Its basically an English 'l' with air blown past the sides of your tongue, which makes it sound a bit like a weird English 'sh'.

Not gonna lie, massive respect for Pwyll's self-restraint. If somebody tried framing my wife for eating a baby, I'd be murderously furious; especially if they were later revealed to have done so to hide the fact that they lost said baby.
Also, there is at least one story that heavily features Welsh Celtic myth that almost every film geek knows: The Black Cauldron. Yes, Disney's The Black Cauldron: "Lost to Care Bears movie" Black Cauldron, "Edited down for being too dark" Black Cauldron, "largest bomb for Disney at the time" Black Cauldron. It was actually based off of a Welsh series of fantasy books called the Prydain Chronicles, which is basically Welsh Lord of the Rings.

I was mind blown when I realized that the Chronicles of Prydain was based on Wales. It's not actually a Welsh series though. It was written by an American called Lloyd Alexander, who was stationed in Wales during WWII and was very inspired by Welsh Folklore.
Welsh folklore is tied into a lot of "English" stories as well, as a lot of the Arthurian lore is directly lifted from Welsh mythology. Other notable books that mention or use Welsh Folklore to some extent are "The Dark is Rising" sequence has settings that are also based on locations in Wales.
Diana Wynne Jones also has at least two books that reference Wales. In the book Dogsbody, the characters encounter magical "underworld" hounds described as white with red ears - a reference to Arawn's hounds in the Mabinogi. The characters even mention the name Arawn in reference to the character they counter, though it is unclear if it's actually meant to be that character from myth. In the book "Howl's Moving Castle" - as a note: the later Ghibli movie has an almost completely different plot - the titular character Howl is actually from Wales and has come to a magical realm to be a badass wizard.
I believe there were aspects of Tolkien's work that were also inspired by Wales - or at least by the Welsh language - as Tolkien was reportedly very fond of the language and has said "Welsh is of this soil, this island, the senior language of the men of Britain; and Welsh is beautiful".

Always had a soft spot for Hafgan and his ridiculous double tap rule, i just thought that was such a cool unique power and it was a shame he only appears once.
"Haha! Im immortal but only if you punch me twice!"
I feel like there could have been potential in various stories of the insane and clever ways he'd have to utilise to trick people into hitting him twice once they've already been warned about it. Like "aha! Actually the beggar woman you bumped into this morning was me in disguise! So this knife in my chest doesnt count!" Or forcing the hero to not face him in single combat but instead amidst a field of arrows, so while struggling to didge them yourself youd lose track of how many had hit him. Maybe equipping his assistants with some sort of magical shield that'd reflect all damage done ti them into himself, so youd keep accidentally reviving him while fighting these other dudes, and the only way to stop would be to let them hit you without fighting back. Or plans to still come back even after you do indeed successfully kill him, having agents working behind the scenes for years trying to trick you into hitting his long dead bones again. Maybe in the end the one who succeeds was disguised as the chef all along, and got the hero to help with a "recipe" that wasnt soup but secretly poison! So pouring this on Hafgan's grave counts as "the hero dealt him a second killing blow". And then he comes back as a cool lich or something and you get an even more badass rematch!
Hafgan would honestly work great in superhero comics, haha

(Or the irish equivelant where it was one burned thumb's worth of juice from the Fish Of Knowledge and he became Finn McCool which is an even better name omg)
But I can see why they picked this one cos Pwyll is honestly just such a sweet and good himbo, he really stands out in an era where most mythical heroes ran on "im the protagonist so my atrocities are justified" logic. Ive seen people write essays on Galatea and how horrifying it would be to be quite literally born to love someone, and I feel like her and Bloduwedd would have been friends if they could meet across time and space.
Anyway, in conclusion I guess its just a shame that mythologies can be wildly inconsistent on their opinion on women and other social stuff, since they're compiled over centuries of a culture's existance. Reminds me of how theres such a stark divide between "loki as morally ambiguous trickster ally of the gods" and "loki as outright villain" in norse myth. Because the change also comes with Baldr basically only just being mentioned now, and everyone going on about how this proves Loki is evil because Baldr was TOTALLY always the most beloved god, trust me guys, ive seen theories that it reflects the start of Christianization trying to rewrite the myths. Its interesting how history can affect not just the lives of the real people going through it, but how their mythology gets recorded when it's like.. being done by the winners, alas.
Fascinating topic but there often aren't any clear answers on a "true" version of a myth that has multiple versions like this.

26:04 I recommend, if you are up to the task of editing the long video into smaller videos, is to do something similar to what you said but instead of livestream you just make one long video. You set your timer/alarm on your phone for about every hour and take a break (one hour on, one hour off or even shorter, like one video on, a few minutes off), turning the camera off at the start of the break and turning it back on when you start again. That way you can still pay attention, enjoy yourself, and you won’t get too overwhelmed or bored. You can then cut that long video into smaller videos. The only thing you really need is the dedication and maybe some editing software to cut the video into smaller videos.

Just sit down and watch half a year of OSP then slowly drip feed it out while you do the next half years of content meaning it would take about 20 sittings if they have a decades worth of content or you could do 1/4 of a years worth of content over 40 sittings
