All my sweaters and tops have two safety pins on the bottom right hand side of the inside seam. I have been doing this since high school. Enjoying your content.❤️🇨🇦
Enjoyed the video, MR. Interesting about the safety pins! The one thing my grandmother always carried on her was a handkerchief or a bunch of Kleenex - usually stuffed up her sleeve.
Great video, thanks for sharing it with us. I actually carry safety pins as part of my EDC kit. I carry an Altoids Tin with a basic first-aid kit in it, and I threw a few safety pins in my first-aid tin.
Brings back memories of my grandmother, she always wore a apron and when she wasn't cooking for the day she was mending stuff of knitting blankets or Scarfs for us kids ! I miss my Grandmother
Were cooking on a 1948 Chambers. It was my step fathers mothers. She bought it new. I found cookstoves while paddling in Canada ... i have settled on Kalamazoo Pilgrams (wood/coal and propane/ng). One for our farm, one at our cabin. I have a dozen cook stoves here. Been heating with wood for 40 years.
I carry safety pins, small knife, 2 small flashlights, firestarter stuff, whistle, duct tape and other small things in my purse... You never know what you might run into! I still have aprons from my mom and grandma too... can't bear to get rid of them! Thanks for helping me remember...🤗❤️
I stopped wearing my aprons for a few years, but have started back again. It makes everything so much easier, including carrying self defense holstered just under it.
My grandmother always wore aprons; I'd torment her by zipping behind her and untying it. "You scoundrel!" she'd say while smiling. Then she'd mockingly threaten me with a wooden spoon. Miss her. Always have a safety pin on my key-ring. My grandfather always carried a (razor-sharp) pocket knife, and a Zippo; he smoked cigarettes and pipes. Good memories.
It sure has been around! My Grandma carried a pistol. Warded off 2 men while she was trying to fish!! Lol…She said they turned around and walked away! She’s past now, but my Dad was so angry she was out fishing by herself. Grandma was a strong women, lived thru the wars and depression.
Wow, this brought back memories! My grandmother, also born in 1903, living in a tenement with a wood cook stove (on the third floor!), always had her cigs and matches in her apron and a small kitchen knife to hand which she used for everything, from cutting to stirring stew to opening another pack. Thanks MR for a great vid.
once again I feel like we grew-up in the same family. 😊 I also recall that for certain task my grandfathers also wore aprons they were made out of heavy canvas and leather. when you talked about the cord off the feed/flour bags the ladies here made doilies and from the sacks everything from table cloth to night dresses. another wonderful walk down memory lean.
My Grandma used to always wear an apron, although I don't know what she kept in it. My EDC is my purse. Plus, my car has a larger EDC always in it. Interesting video, Modern Refugee! God bless.
@@ModernRefugee actually, that’s a good idea. I wanted my wife to make an apron with pistol carry capability. The practical/tactical apron would be the name for it! Hottest Christmas gift next year? LOL!
I remember my grandfather always carrying a knife in a case called “Old Timer.” Not sure if they are still around anymore. He would always have a handkerchief and had a can of Skoal longcut wintergreen in his back pocket. He was a millwright by trade after WW2. The guy seemed to be able to fix just about anything.
My Grandpa would sit behind the cook stove on the old farm after supper and roll one and smoke it out of that tobacco pouch I mentioned. I still have several Prince Albert tins round here.
Sadly Old Timer, schrade, went bankrupt in 04 I think. The name was purchased by the chi-coms who make a lower quality version of the knives now, and in stainless rather than that wonderful old carbon steel the former company used. Good to snag up those vintage ones when you find them. I still carry one occasionally, when there's no chance of losing it somewhere
I remember my great grandma always carried a pocket knife in her apron. She also had cannon ball plug tobacco in her apron. I watched her many times take that knife and cut off just the right amount tobacco for herself and chew it.Thanks for bringing back some memories for me today.
Granny's edc must include a wooden spoon. For stirrin' the pot AND smacking the kids. The name of the tobacco with the top on the label is "Top". Go figger. Bugler was another roll yer own of the old timers round here. Cool of you to share that with us. Neat vid
My grandma carried a snuff can and I always wanted to know what it was that she was always drinking, I found a can stuffed in the couch and opened it and it was full of brown spit! Gross. Other then that she always had a tissue stuffed up her sleeve. I think my family was different than yours was!🤣🤣 Great stories that you tell about your family.
Thank you for sharing, always great stories. Thank you Veterans.
Yes, many didn’t make it home from around here. Thank you Vets past, present and future.

There was a lady in the local historical society that kept a silk handkerchief tuck under the wristband of her watch .

Yep, I remember that. Putting on their apron was just like the final garment that they wore every day!
I remember the aprons and the safety pins. I also remember them saving the string and anything else, like rubber bands from the newspapers.
Enjoying your video with my coffee. Happy Veterans Day 🇺🇸
Same to you!

Your “old timer “ content has really brought back some fond memories.
Glad to hear it. There is more to prepping then always being afraid of something.

Thanks MR, this brought back some great memories ! Sadly they took most of their homestead knowledge to their grave. Now we have to relearn it 😢

A apron isn’t very tactical, it’s more practical lol.

Mine too. She was a Quigley.
