- This is, more or less, a video response to "ebomey's" question: Do You EDC? Just my personal thoughts on everyday carry.

I saw the title of this video and as a young 25 year old thought, "Oh brother, here we go.."
But I was actually very pleasantly surprised with the content and enjoyed this video. Very well done sir!
Thank you kindly.
Iui
I can only hope to be as cool as this guy when I'm his age!!
Be careful what you wish for - most guys my age are already dead.
@@Icarryone 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂👍
As a 74 year old retiree I both enjoyed and appreciated your comments. My EDC is a M & P Shield 9mm carried inside the waistband, of course southeast TN doesn't have the winters that you have. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Richard.
I'm also a 74 year old retiree and I switched from a 45 ACP 1911 to an FNX 9 which holds 18 rounds of 9MM and comes with two extra magazines. Hornady recently stated that terminal performance between 40 S&W, 9MM and 45 ACP had become negligible due to modern refinements in bullet design, so I opted for a higher mag count. YMMV
As a retired past 70 LEO my EDC is minimal too. Pocket .380 in a holster, spare mag, car & house key, wallet, cash in a money clip and a cell phone. I don’t care what time it is unless I have a doctor’s appointment and get my weather report by opening a window. Retirement is great!
I certainly don't miss punching a time clock either, Ken.
I’m still laughing about the “tactical” wallet bit! LOL!
Some yo-yo at a gun show actually tried to sell me one.
They aren't worthless, but most people don't need it.... Until they do.
Here's an article: slate.com/human-interest/2015/08/credit-cards-passports-and-rfid-fraud-are-special-blocking-wallets-necessary.html
I love the modesty of this video. I've recently started limiting and lightning up my edc as I'm getting older and don't see the need to carry half the junk I used to carry
Same here, Tony.
Oh my goodness this is my new favorite channel. Nothing replaces the wisdom imparted by time, experience, and mistakes to learn from!
Yes, plenty of mistakes. That aside, welcome aboard.
that holster is beautiful
This guy makes fantastic holsters - very affordable.
Hey, at least you still remember you are married. lol
She had our dog chipped and neutered because he kept wandering off - I don't want to be next.
Oh dear lord man, you are hilarious!
Maybe she already did - you just don't remember.
Maybe she doesn't remember either.
I'm not "that" far gone yet - and she's actually 17 years younger than me. I insisted that she retire early along with me - and she reluctantly agreed. (Professional career woman, no children - who now seems to consider me to be her full time project. I'm loving it!) That said, what were we actually talking about anyway - and where the heck are my pants.
17 years younger? You dog you. I am jealous.
your humor and delivery are amazing. love the video. thank you
Thanks Mike. I appreciate that.
i enjoyed hearing from an older retired gentlemen such as i, thank you.
My pleasure Ken.
Revisting one of my favorite videos Sir i pray u and your family are doing well
We are Dexter - and I certainly appreciate you asking!
Great video for us senior citizens. Thank you.
I carry a Colt Combat Commander 45ACP in a Milt Sparks 1AT OWB leather holster for the winter. A Spyderco knife, 0light flashlight and yes a Zippo lighter. Works for me.
Sounds good to me.
Having passed the 6+ decade mark a few years ago, I can relate to your choices and perspectives. Having recently returned to LEO work last year after a 10 year hiatus ( just passed the 30 yr LEO mark ), I am currently required to carry a Glock 22 ( so far ). Since I had been carrying a 1911 in some form or another for the past 20+ years this was a big change. I recently acquired a S&W Shield 45. I love it for off duty as it being a striker fired operates much the same as my duty sidearm so no having to remember two different platforms. When you get my age, any simplification in life is a plus. The Shield 45 is about as close to the feel of my 1911s while being a striker fired polymer pistol.
Keep up the great videos!
That's a tough job at any age David. My oldest son entered into law enforcement after completing his military service. He saw action in both Iraq and Afghanistan and is definitely no stranger to danger. He was recently awarded the Medal of Valor by the AZ Governor's Office & the Department Of Public Safety for heroism. He's the absolute polar opposite of those misguided young people who are out protesting the election. As a father, I couldn't be more proud of "my" son. Stay safe David.
I am very grateful to all our Law Enforcement Officers. There is generally very little thanks or appreciation for LE these days, so David Parish, THANK YOU for caring and serving your community; and Icarryone, please let your son know HE is appreciated as well!
I can not even imagine being a parent to one of those young people rioting and behaving like hooligans, under the guise of "protesting". Their parents must be SO ashamed - at least, they should be!
This has got to be one of the best edc videos I've seen. What a charicter. His sense of humour is just like my dad's. very dry. Brilliant. May you have a long and happy retirement with your wife. All the best sir.
Thanks Chris.
Man I got a tell you. One of the best Damn EDC videos I’ve seen in a while. Keep them coming sir
👍🤠
Best part.."if I need to know what time it is I'll just look outside" that's great right there. Takes a real man and a true country boy to tell time by the sun.
Yep.
Love the 659, had my eye on one since I was 13 or 14 years old. I'm a huge fan of all 3 generations.
These older Smith's are among my favorites.
Excellen stage work and lighting. Too often, the lighting sucks in You Tube videos, not to mention the sound treatments. Sensible stuff and loved the humor! Cheers from Spamcan, a 7X year old USAF Ret'd E7!
Thanks Thomas.
Great EDC and video keep the video coming I love your 1911 and choice of Holster
Thanks for watching.
I turn 65 in exactly 65 days and I have already lightened the load that I carry every day. I opted to go for a wallet with an attached money clip though. To make up for not having a wallet and a money clip I do carry 2 knives. My pocket knife is an old Barlow that has been carried for years but I also carry one of those "tactical" flip open knives clipped to my waist band. I just love sitting around flipping that knife open. It has become my primary hobby now that I am old. Being old means we can do things that would label youngsters as being insane.
I think people our age have earned the right to do as much or as little as we like.
As a new member to the "club" I found your video to be just what the dr. ordered for an EDC rx....nothing more than you need. I also agree with the pocket knife assessment....I still carry Pop's old Case Stag lock-back in my front pocket as well. Regardless of age and value my pocket just ain't the same without it there.
I hear that.
It's a good well proven selection for an Old Guy....... Like me. I retired after 8 years as a Paramedic and 25 years as a Cop, and Firearms Instructor. My Career started with Revolvers and went to the 1911 and carried it on the streets for 18 years. Our department later mandated the Glock 40 and then the 9mm. I haven't really trained much with my beloved 1911's for the past 10 years, so after retiring I just stuck with the Glock Platform. A Glock 26 or 43 and a couple of spare mags does me just fine. I always liked the Case Folding Hunter or Buck 110 knives in a belt pouch, but over the years developed a sincere appreciation for Spyderco knives. They are light, flat and hold a great edge and come in lots of sizes that I clip in my pocket. The Spyderco Military is my favorite EDC.
My wallet is simple. It's a Leather Field Notes cover because I still write stuff down on paper. It has a couple of pockets inside for my License, cards and such. I rarely use Cards to pay for anything, so I carry good old fashioned Cash, in a clip. I carry a simple Cell phone and it has a clock on it, so I rarely wear a Watch anymore. Your keys are about as simple as mine. I wear Cargo shorts and T-Shirts almost everyday of the year. I live in the Deep South and except for a few weeks a year, it's never really cold enough for long pants or more than a windbreaker. My Church is a Kitchen Table with a Cup of Coffee and a Bible where my wife and I read and discuss. I'm not much of a Dresser-Upper, so I don't think I could find a tie in my wardrobe.
On the occasion when I need a loaf or bread and a pound of coffee, I walk my tired old @$$ down to the small town corner store, and probably carry two of my S&W J Frame Airweights. One in my waistband and the other in a Pocket Holster as my New York Reload. Maybe a Speedloader. I don't feel undergunned. Last but not least, I always carry a Flashlight. Back in the day it was Surefire and of course the big Cop Flashlights. These days its a small Streamlight AA that puts out as much light as my old 5 D Cell Maglite did.
Anyway...... enjoyed the Video. Always interested to see what Old Salts like me still carry everyday. Old habits die hard I guess.
👍🤠
you're sense of humor is great
Finally, someone understands me! Thank you Joseph.
joseph melchor ikr, i like this guy
Your!!!
I am 65 and have the same perspective as this man, minimize heat you gave and carry old school crafmanship, can't be beat enjoyed your article
Thanks John!
Being a retired leo of 30+ years, I find your sense of humor great and commend your edc. Great video.
Thank you - and thank you for your years of public service.
Hello, Sir,
I've just started watching your videos and want to let you know that you are fabulous in the way you present all the facts, also your way of speaking is very good. I'm learning a lot from you. Please keep up the great work
Thank you Richie.
Outstanding EDC sir , I thoroughly enjoyed it
Thanks for watching.
Thank you, I kept wandering as to why I wanted or needed an EDC. of any kind.
Well you made it clear, this year 2018 I will be turning 65 I graduated.
I now know where to place my attention.
Thank you.
Glad to be of assistance fellow graduate.
Great video and extremely straight forward. This is probably one of the most realistic EDC videos I have seen. Light carry and minimal but just as effective as anything else.
Thanks Scott.
Hilarious!! Love the dry humor, remind me of my grandpa! Great vid!
As a card carrying, pretentious old curmudgeon - I'll take that as a complement.
Great Video Mr. One...I like that holster...I can say Lewis Hughes creates a super quality top grade comfortable to wear EDC belt holster and the pistol you pack is another top choice when it comes right down to you or the bad guy...What ya need and what ya don't...
You're right. He does make really high quality holsters.
this guy cool and funny
Omg!! That was AWSOME!! One of the best, entertaining EDC vids I’ve seen!!
Care to subscribe?
Why are the likes/dislikes turned off? I can't imagine why anyone would dislike this video, it's so wholesome and funny.
Actually, they are not disabled - but I'm not really sure how to go about enabling the counter.
Hmmm, I'm not sure man. From my perspective they're turned off. It might be a privacy setting you have set, but I'm not sure because I'm not a content creator. Regardless, thank you for the videos and I hope you and your wife are doing well
Thanks for sprucing up the EDC.
And as always great video!
My EDC really hasn't changed that much - your tag did give me the incentive to update my old EDC video a bit.
Great video ! My basic EDC items are the 5.11 Tactical pant (an upgrade from blue jeans) with two knife/cellphone pockets ! One has the Fenix PD35 LED Flashlight w/18650 recharable Olight Battery. (Recharge the battery in the Olight S20R tethered with the USB Cable to the desktop computer). And the other pocket fits the deep in the pocket SOG Trident in Black TiNi with the seatbelt cutter that is great for cutting twine on bales of hay ! And sometimes I wear the digital Timex Expedition Indglo with the NATO watchband strap and the name brand Suunto Button Compass from REI. Thank you for the video ! tjl
Sounds like you have it all under control.
Great choices. Excellent EDC.
It works out very well for me.
This was a very nice and relaxing video. I really appreciate your perspective.
Thank you.
Thank you for the great light EDC video. Your are as sharp as those Puma's and you had me at 1911, hope to see that review on the holster and mag pouch.
I'm quite impressed with these Hughes Holsters. I'm considering buying a couple more for other handguns I own.
I love this video ....the older we are the better we are
like fine wine
I enjoyed that tongue in cheek look at senior carry! An older video, but a good one.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Good on you sir. You are a breath of fresh air. Hi from new Zealand.
Thank you kindly!
“Dooms day big out bag she calls a purse” haha.. I love it!
I'm not kidding about her purse.
Thanks for speaking on the money clip. It's given me something new to consider as I evaluate my EDC.
They are worth considering.
I commend you, sir. Appreciate your sharing your thoughts with the rest of us.
My pleasure!
I like your style - classic and classy. Sensible and simple. I especially appreciate the classic style knife. Your commentary also puts me in a good mood ("puts," because I've watched this video several times over the last few months). Thank you.
Thanks, I appreciate that.
To one Senior Citizen to another Great EDC and a enjoyable Video. Thanks and Take Care.
Thanks for watching .
This is the coolest EDC vid I have ever watched in YT.
👍😎
that's awesome man! and thank you so much for sharing sir! very effective and simple and hey, it fits and works with your every day needs and tasks and that's all that matters👍
I totally agree Corey.
I don't know why I wasn't subscribed to you. Your narration on this video is great. Looks like you have a quality channel. Nice job.
Thanks and welcome aboard. Feel free to browse my channel - hopefully I'll have other videos you might also enjoy.
Greatings from France, very well structured video, cristal clear description of every items (I particularly love your watch), simple yet accurate !
Thank you, I appreciate your comments.
I enjoyed this chat. I have reduced my gear too from when I was a Deputy Sheriff, Bounty Hunter and Private Investigator. I carry the weapon that suits me, from a Model 60 S&W to a Colt Government Model Or P-35 Browning. Still carry two reloads but no Pepper spray or hand cuffs. I still carry a Sure Fire flashlight and A nice razor sharp Benchmade 580 spring assisted pocket folder. for those up close and personal assaults on us older folks. While I certainly don't want a confrontation, I do not ever intend to be a victim. I have tried to cut down on my keys, wallet cards and money (my wife helps with this one). I don't carry my Kubaton any longer, but it has been replace with a cane or mobility scooter. Keep your powder dry! and stay off the sky line.
The most concise, well articulated & fun reviews on the net. I've been a subscriber since the 1st one I found. Having finally eliminated my 8 kids college loans at 63 you're helping me with the joy of my new hobby. I'd bet you still carry at least two. Large ones lol.
James Carmean
You got to have your human rights with out a permit from the government A .
James Carmean - Thank you for your service sir.
I'm on the cusp of graduating myself and agree with your assessment of the challenges or benefits, depending upon your view, of my impending graduation...thanks for video.
Thanks for watching Tom.
Outstanding video and absolutely fantastic content! Congrats on making it to retirement. I have 11 years to go and I can switch over to your method. Scott
I certainly don't miss punching a time clock.
Very nice gun, my friend. Ad can always appreciate a quality American-made knife.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
This is the best EDC carry video I have ever seen!!! None of the junk my wife already has this stuff in the domes day level bug out bag she calls a purse lmao oh lord... wrist watch? who needs it you only need to know night and day if I'm not sure what time it is I look outside.
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Since I've retired every day is Saturday and it's time to eat when you get hungry. Great video and comments.
I just became a giant fan! Thank you for sharing your wisdom!!
My pleasure.
Not bad! Why not wrap some duct tape around the Bic? Just tuck the corner under & you're ready to go. If you're still wanting to carry the Zippo, you might be interested to know that you can add a different insert (a "Thunderbird") to the Zippo to make it like the Bic- it doesn't let the gas out unless you open the lid to a certain degree. That way it doesn't dry out too quickly (mine's still going after at least a year).
Great video. I waffle between nothing and too much but the one item I seem to use on a regular basis, my pocket flashlight. I bought a small thrunite T-01 and seem to use it more than I would have been ever thought. I keep it on one of those key chains that separate. Thanks for the great commentary. PS my grandson came over with one of those shaved tomahawk styles. I told him to leave until it grew back. He didn't believe me at first but I told him I was serious. I expect he will be back to in 3 or 4 weeks😎
I've seen a few kids trying to "Rock Out" a Mohawk haircut around here. Makes me want to squint my eyes go . . . . . damn!
Old Fart
I too pass ancient gas. A mohawk doesn't offend me near as much as the kids who walk around with thier pants down to thier knees.
You, sir, have excellent taste!
Thank you kindly.
Thanks sir for this video, laughed and learnt a lot, also made me reconsider my EDC, specially right now that I got my super tactical bazooka, and the sheer thoughts about how to carry its ammo concealed were already hurting too much.
I'm sort of past the age of tactical. These days I find myself leaning more toward practical.
I love your views on "Tactical" items. I agree with a lot of it! Its nice seeing a EDC video for once, that isn't revolved around... tactical this, tactical that!
At my age, I'm not the least bit tactical. Practical works out better for me.
One of the most "comforting" channels I've come across. If Mr. Rogers was packin' heat, this is what his TV show would have been like. Now, I'm no where near my own retirement age, but with the exceptions of the number of keys on my key ring and my choice of sidearm, my edc package is nearly identical. I always knew I was ahead of my time.
Don't let the persona fool you. My friends refer to me as a RED. (Retired, Extremely Dangerous)
Never doubted it for a moment.
This gentleman hit the nail on the head!
Thanks Richard.
Im 30 and i respect the old school take on edc. I carry a Buck 110 Hunter on my belt. I also carry my 1976 Bicentennial Ruger Security Six 4in bull barrel SS iin a holster I made myself. And a basic men's leather wallet
Excellent.
What a great video. I'm right there with you on this philosophy. The only other thing I personally require is one of those tiny Victorinox knives with a toothpick ... because I'm long in the tooth and can't take a bite of anything without some culinary Klingon needing to be beamed out of my choppers. At least I've still got my God-given choppers!
It sounds to me like you've found the perfect tool for solving a specific problem. To me, that's an excellent illustration of how to adapt your EDC to suit your daily needs.
I’m a disabled vet, pretty close to senior citizen. I carry a full size 1911, and pretty much every thing you carry, except I don’t carry cash anymore. I use GALCO leather. I’m left handed too.
Thumbs up Scott.
Icarryone well thanks
Of all the locations, Wallyworld would've been the last place that I thought I'd ever be accosted. A few years ago two young punks in their early 20's decided to have a little fun with me while I was minding my own business. They left before security arrived but since then, I now carry a Glock 43 with two spare magazines.
These days, that place is like going out into the jungle.
Loved this video sir! That money clip is a gem! I carry one that is just regular stainless steel with a buffalo nickel epoxied to it! Nice 659 I love that handle! I carry a Taurus Ultralight and a H+K USA made auto knife but I have a few Buck 110's that are more like the Puma blades! Great EDC all around!
Back in the early 80's a pickpocket snagged my wallet at a Grateful Dead concert. If I hadn't had a money clip tucked away, I would have been dry gulched in Phoenix for several days.
"If I don't know what time it is, I just look outside" -haha too funny!
Thanks for a great video. I am an also a senior citizen, although I don't use that phrase often. I grew up in Fallon. I also carry one. We have quite a bit in common.
😎👍
This is one of the best EDC (if not the best) videos I’ve seen. So often the appeal is made to manipulate men into carrying crap we don’t need. It’s gratifying to see a common sense approach to EDC where practicality matters. Only criticism? If I had a watch as nice as a Rolex, I’d wear it everyday. Even if I had no intention of telling anybody the time of day. And those folders are sweet. Awesome video!
👍😎
I love your channel one of the best very grown up keep the vids coming👌
Thanks Truckn'.
I’m 63 and recently retired and find it so funny that we agree on so many things, right down to the three keys where I used to carry a dozen and no longer wearing a watch. I admit to being an iphone user though and am seldom separated from that source of info. I have a Kimber 1911 but now prefer the smaller 9 mm D/A only guns for EDC. Just my preference and comfort level. My two favorite carry guns for different situations is a Sig 9mm Compact and a Kahr PM9. I reload 44 mag, 45-70, 375 H & H, 7mm mag, and 500 S & W mag. I have always had a love-hate relationship with recoil and performance but I sure do like them to kick! I shoot several others also but just buy those rather than reloading. I Live on 15 acres in North Texas and get to camp and shoot when I want and weather and God permits. Love your videos.
I've hunted white tail's and hogs in Texas. Great place to live if you're into hunting.
Great vid! As a retired employee of the Lincoln-Mercury Division I also like your choice of car.
😎👍
I am still coming to grips with my senior citizenship and yet I found your EDC remarkably similar to mine, as well as your vehicle description. With a metal hip already past the warranty that I hope lasts as long as I do, and a slighter frame than most, I want a minimum amount of stuff hanging from my belt or even in my pockets. Yet I still manage to carry a quality folder and a double shoulder holster with 2 Commanders, keys, wallet, money clip, and flashlight, for extended periods of time very comfortably in cool or cold weather. The double rig tends to freak out the tourists around here, so I don't usually open carry it. In summer, of necessity, the primary and backup firearms are smaller and lighter and tucked in various ways - owb holster under t-shirt, backup in fanny pack. We have open and concealed Constitutional carry in Arizona, so I may have one gun tucked and one visible, to take advantage of both worlds.
I'm a firearms instructor now taking a special interest in self defense for seniors, and studying some of these "cane-fu" tactics with an eye toward combining them with self-defense shooting. Am noticing that a lot of seniors are taking up shooting that never shot much before, and it's good to have voices like yours out in the community to welcome them.
Am looking forward to more of your videos. God bless you.
Arizona is one of the best states for firearms owners to live.
Great video. More power to you.Too bad a senior like me cannot carry here in California. If allowed I would carry my SW 5904 9mm.
That's Commiefornia for you.
Best EDC video I've watched to date. You earned yourself a "like" sir. Keep up these great videos please.
Thanks, I appreciate that.
I love this post!!! Thank you sir!
Thank you.
I like the minimalist approach. Keep it simple and you will actually keep it on you!
Given time, most people will eventually come to that same conclusion.
I ENJOYED THIS VIDEO! ALWAYS ALOT TO LEARN FROM SOMEONE WHOS BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT. LESS IS MORE FOR SURE. GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR AS WELL.
Thank you, much appreciated.
Omg 😂 “keep it tucked it away in a place only a pervert would look” I love this guy
👍😉
Very classy carry, sir. Great video! 👍🏻
Thank you very much.
Very minimalistic, i like it. Ive been watching videos and some edc's are outrageous.
Some of them are absolutely ridiculous.
Great video. You and I agree on a lot of things.
Like minded thinkers are always welcome here.
Moving into senior ststus myself, great ideas for lightening the load to essential stuff.
Glad I could help.
I'm not sure what happened but hughes holsters has been hard to get a hold of for a while. He makes great holsters for a great price, I hope everything is well & eventually gets back to making holsters.
Last I heard, Lewis was in the process of relocating to a different state. Hopefully, he'll get his leather shop up and going again before too long.
@@Icarryone yes I heard the same but his website & etsy store was still open during the moving process, now everything goes to a broken link. I agree hopefully he starts making holsters again. Thanks for the reply
nice vid from a fellow senior
I appreciate that.
I have enough hair. Just keep it short so I don't have worry about fussing with it
My phone is my watch
You are absolutely hilarious
👍🤠
I love the humour, but also the 'home truths.' In particular, the point about the knife. If a Barlow was good enough for Mark Twain, it's sure good enough for me.
👍🤠
Loved this video. Keeping it classy.
I suppose its a lot like sugar; the more you refine it, the sweeter it gets.
I'd take a buck 110 or 112 over a puma just as preference. I carry either a s&w combat magnum 3 inch or a Glock 19. I always have a s&w 642 performance in an ankle holster.
👍🤠
Great video! enjoyed every minute of it :)
I appreciate that.
Great video and good thoughts for us seniors. Love the sense of humor, too! Good job, sir!
Thank you, Arne.
Great video. It was informative as humerus. I'm not far behind you. And it's a beautiful firearm. I agree will you all the way. But my edc pistol is a Smith n Wesson shield EZ in 9mm. Its a single stack with 8+1 capacity. I'm actually looking forward to retire. Just hope I live that long. I'm a plumber and I put a lot of wear and tear on my body through the years. Anyway thanks for sharing. My hats off to you sir with much respect. God bless
Thank you kindly Ernest.
Great vid. Andy Rooney from 60 minutes comes to mind 😆
At 82, I know exactly what my man is talking about. I looked at one of those tactical wallets and was not sure how to use it, figured that I would probably have to buy some camo clothes to go with it along with some other surplus military gear. I do have an AR15 which my son says qualifies me to have a tactical wallet and that it would make me "cool" but I thought that at my age, being bald, old, wrinkled and ugly, cool was not something I needed to be. My better half says if I want to be cool, just sit in front of the air conditioner. So I guess I will just keep on stuffing my old army 1911 in my pants when I go out without a tac wallet, provided I remember to have my pants on when I go out. The little woman helps me with that. And I do remember the Ronson lighter fluid dance. I think I remember anyway.
👍😎
Awesome video! I consider myself a new "senior citizen" today. Nice to know I can find helpful information on the subject online. :-)
Always here to help.
