    This professor is wonderful, knowledgeable, and caring. He presents the conflicts, controversies, and complexities of copyright law without being one-sided. The students are there to learn, not because they already know everything. I'm sure they are more intelligent than most have stated here. As a film producer, I am very interested in this topic and can't wait to watch all of the lectures!

      +Kelly Faltis "As a film producer" says enough. There is not one legal student that would believe this Creative Commons blab. A class who doesn't know the definition of the word ratification has a student that can pipe in later with more withheld knowledge. Actors- it is what you do is it not? This is hype. Boo!

    This is going to be a dumb comment but I can't help but notice -this professor is what I imagine Harry Potter as an adult would look, feel, and talk like

    Free education is always good man. Plus after awhile you start to appreciate his teaching style.

    The students don't seem dumber that in other MIT videos. I think they were unprepared for such a question-full lecture. And I like this way of lecturing - it forces to engage and think before the true answer comes up, although this can only work when you CAN come up with an answer, or at least guess.

    I think that the reason that some of them having difficulty to answering is the fact that they are not LAW students....
    I mean, questions like "what is property?" would have easily been answered by any 1L..

    @ExoticGawdess From Wikipedia:
    Godwin's law is a humorous observation made by Mike Godwin in 1990 which has become an Internet adage. It states: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."
    [...] there is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically "lost" whatever debate was in progress.

    My apologies for a comment I made some time ago here , about teaching Law at Legal Departments in Universities Worldwide. My Comment was irresponsible and inappropriate and expressed in ways by me that I concluded would best result in me removing my comment.

    Does anyone know How do one protect an original idea such as a method to help people to go to sleep which is a form of exercise which i've been told the idea cannot be copyrighted. So If someone copies and sells my material that shows and explains my exact idea to achieve the same result, what can I do about it?, is claiming plagiarism my only option?

      yes, idea cannot be copyrighted but expressions sure can be. The method that you are talking about, if it's v new, you cane easily apply for a patent as well. It will garner monopoly. And as for copyright it exists with the blossom of the idea. You have to register it foremost to keep evidence that it was your idea and that you have monopoly over it as well. Hope this helps!!

    Is this sarcasm? I'm not flaming, I just can't tell. If you are, kudos to your wit. If you are not, are you kidding me?

    Can a single song lyric quote (one sentence) be used on products for sale? Or would that be infringement? Thanks!

    I really wonder if this is an ACTUAL MIT class... because even though that the lecturer apparently has great knowledge of current (and especially past) affairs. And yes, I am aware of the fact that the class might have been nevrous or whatever, but still many people were still pretty reluctant to answer.

    @ExoticGawdess "How does it promote art to transfer the right from heirs to Chase Bank or to Nazis?"
    You lose by invocation of Godwin's law.

    the professor states "I don't feel that incentivized about the wealth of my great great grandchildren"..... Well I do, and I should be able to keep my property and give it to my great great grandkids and not have it stolen from me by the government and redistributed
