    Hey Jake,
    I could really use some advice. I've been following your channel for a couple of months and started investing in April 2025. I'm 28 years old and aiming to retire with a pension fund, savings, and dividend income in 25 years.
    As of today, I have invested in some Growth ETFs, specifically VGT, SCHG, and VOO. I've heard you recommend holding these ETFs for a while and then rebalancing into some dividend ETFs like SCHD and DGRO. My question is, how long do you feel is the right time to hold these growth ETFs before rebalancing into dividend ETFs? Should I start buying some positions in dividend ETFs today, perhaps investing 80% into growth ETFs and 20% into dividend ETFs, and then gradually rebalance my whole portfolio into dividend ETFs?
    Thanks for your advice!

      Hey there! I do a balance of both. I would suggest watching this video. I think it will help answer a lot of your questions: ua-cam.com/video/bTuhN-P2RxY/v-deo.html

    What do you think about including my 401k into my entire investment/dividend pie. I ask this because in another video you mentioned in a portfolio review that you are assuming that the 401k is separate. Mine consists of a fund that tracks the sp500. I have a large voo holding in my roth, and am thinking about rebalancing the voo holding since I already have that large exposure in my 401. My plan is retire early at 40, and utilize the roth conversion ladder to gain better control of my 401k funds then. Also retire to a low cost of living country, and take the early withdrawal penalty (assuming i reach my investment goal by then)

    I would recommend selecting a sector etf for MLP preferred stock , bdc,reits they give you great diversification, and still a good yield with less single stock risk

    can you please make a video about the "hold an rebalance" strategy? Why should young people invest in high yield ETFs when they can invest in growth ETFs like VGT and QQQm with an average return of 15%-20%, then rebalance in 30 years to high yield / cover calls? 30 years of lost growth potential is a lot more than the tax penalty that will result from rebalancing it dont you think?

    • @DividendGrowthInvesting
      @DividendGrowthInvesting  8 місяців тому

      Statistically you would get a higher total return with that approach, but the volatility will be higher and a lot of people will not be able to stomach the high volatility and may change their strategy mid way. This is especially great if you have a Roth IRA because you pay 0 taxes in 30 years when you have a massive portfolio and will have 0 capital gains when you rebalance.

      It is bold to assume these companies will continue giving 15-20+% growth for the next 30 years lol. They would be like 100 trillion dollar companies at that point.

      I really like that you are focusing on ETFs and spread out accross different areas of the market. You could look at real estate ETFs like VNQ in a Roth IRA.

    I have a question that I am sure has been answered somewhere on your channel. I have a portfolio that contains about half VTSAX and another half of individual stocks with some sizable appreciation. I used to subscribe to the JL Collin's approach for several years but I strayed during COVID to pickup plenty of individual stocks at a good price. I still agree with the simple path to wealth approach but I need a little help deciding how to best simplify my finances again. 1) Do I sell the individual gainers and losers and immediately buy the recommended ETFs, e.g. DGRO, SCHD..... ? 2) Do I sell all my individual stocks and wait on the sidelines and collect a decent interest rate in money market funds or Treasury Bills, especially since we are at all time highs. Wait for a better entry point to better my dividend income percentage. The current 5% +/- interest rate isn't so bad in my opinion. 3) Is there another option I should think about? I am in my early 40s with about 5 years to go until FIRE. If you have an article or video that addresses this issue of simplifying one's portfolio midstream please let me know.

      There really isn’t a perfect answer because you can’t predict the future. Check out my time horizon videos that will help with the allocation of which funds. I’m always a fan of time in the market not timing the market. 5% treasuries are great if you need liquid cash now, not great if you have 10+ years before retiring.

    Thoughts on covered call etfs. For someone using them soley for the monthly income, do you think there high dividend rates are sustainable for long term? 10yrs? 20yrs?

    • @DividendGrowthInvesting
      @DividendGrowthInvesting  8 місяців тому +1

      Pros and cons. They are not ideal if you don’t plan to actually use the dividend 5 years then you are likely better off owning an index fund like QQQ because you will get bigger total returns. You could always sell QQQ and buy JEPQ down the road.

    • @justinjenkins4337
      @justinjenkins4337 8 місяців тому +1

      I'm talking about someone who is retired. Living off the dividend. Do you think that person can count on that monthly income for the next 10 or 20yrs?

    • @DividendGrowthInvesting
      @DividendGrowthInvesting  8 місяців тому +1

      @@justinjenkins4337 20 years is a long time so it’s hard to really predict what anything will do. But if I had to guess I would say yes. The fund will produce income but the share price will likely not do much because the way these covered call ETFs are structured. You want covered call ETFs that write out of the money so you have growth potential.

    Question for you, when you get your dividends in M1 do you use the auto invest feature for your entire portfolio or do you manually buy the dividends into the company that paid then

    • @DividendGrowthInvesting

      Now that I am living off my portfolio, I withdraw the dividends. Before I would just set auto invest on.

    • @DividendGrowthInvesting
      @DividendGrowthInvesting  8 місяців тому

      Three big cons and one positive with SPYD. The positive is you are getting a higher starting yield of 4.5%. The cons are you sacrifice on performance when looking at total returns. The other con is you get lower dividend growth and the last con is its 20% real estate so less tax efficient. You sacrifice a lot for the 4.5% yield vs just going with SCHD at 3.5% starting yield.

    • @DividendGrowthInvesting

      VOO and VTI are great if you plan to sell shares to pay for your living expenses in retirement. VOO/VTI are not ideal if you want to live off the dividend alone unless you have millions invested.
      Think of VOO/VTI as flipping or selling a house for a gain to unlock capital. Think of SCHD/DGRO as a rental property where you never sell and live off the rent.

      @@callumfrench5199 yeah mathematically based on historical returns it would likely give you a higher total real return. A few things to consider what if the year you want to sell you are in a bear market like 2022. But yeah it can work. I personally do a balance of both.
