Often seen her singing but not acting dialogue. She’s just as pitch perfect. And she looks gorgeous, exactly as she did ten years ago. Talk about nailing it.
Rob Ashford said it best, Sutton Foster can do anything. Since most people only see Meryl Streep and Emma Stone in musicals, they don't get what masters exists in the world. Well I do, hats off Sutton.

Anything Goes and Blow Gabriel Blow felt like i was dreaming, I still can't remember all of it cause i simply zoned out in shock and awe!! Sutton also broke during the break in 'friendship' cause of Robert's snarky remark into the band pit that made us all howl- I'm seeing it again in late October (i forgot Sutton leaves on the 10th and booked..) so sadly wont see her again but curious to see if i can be just as impressed, which i will cause this show is EVERYTHING.
@@auroraspiderwoman5886 Fun fact for y'all: Sutton Foster is a two-time Tony Award winner! She won in the "Best Actress in a Musical" category for "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and, of course, "Anything Goes!"
She’s a BRILLIANT Reno and I think it’s because she’s not necessarily the most obvious choice for the part. She has the bawdiness of Merman, LuPone and Paige that is essential to Reno, but “Over the top, glamorous and seductive” are very much not Sutton, who she herself would say feels more at home in the “girl next door” parts. (In Into the woods, she’s the Baker’s Wife, not the Witch for example) She plays Reno like someone attempting to be more Grandiose than she really is and through that discrepancy, we see Reno’s true vulnerability. She’s cast against type.
Zach T: You may have hit upon exactly what it was that made her such a marvelous surprise in this role. I went in not sure of what she'd do with the part, and left feeling that the whole production depended on her and that she was the whole show. And she just got unanimous raves for her London debut in the new West End "Anything Goes." She could probably continue in that for a year were it not for "The Music Man."
@@auroraspiderwoman5886 oh yeah. I think the production suffered without her. Her replacements were great on their own, but the new book really clicked with her in it.
Sutton is a marvelous presence and multi-talented to boot. She's one of the best, and perfect in this role. She IS the top in this--right up there with the great Merman.
Was lucky enough to see her live in this on Broadway in 2011 and Oh. My. God. 😱😱😱 I didn't know who she was but I literally couldn't take my eyes off her anytime she was onstage. Effortless charisma and presence. That's her summed up: she manages to look utterly relaxed and effortless while managing to be captivating and draw every eye in the audience towards her. And when she danced. 😱😱😱 I have been lucky enough to see other legends, but this is one I will always remember.
Firstly thank u @aurora spiderWoman for posting this & entertaining the whole world =) 2ndly, Sutton hasn't aged a bit & any leading role she takes on, she amazes audiences with stellar performances night-after-night, & is second to none. But what makes her acting, singing & (GOSH!!!) dancing world class? here is my breakdown: in the first part of the clip, throughout her conversation... she keeps on having a controlled flirting look with her leading man... while breaking out into song & starting her superb story-telling-skills... done thru Musical Theatre. Sutton's technique is flawless, firstly she defies her age by appearing sexy & sultry & as we hear her crescendos( 2:11 ), & i/we wonder how humanly possible is it to deliver this 8 times a week...
for a developed-musical-theatre scene like the West End... Sutton is America's greatest gift & export of Musical-Theatre to any theatre-community worldwide & we see her singing the signature tune "ANYTHING GOES", on the Broadway Stage she has done this hundred-of-times, what i liked about this particular performance?
` in 4:59 she beings her ascent to sing towards Audiences seated in the Circle/Mezzanine & i am awestruck by this kind gesture of hers to include Audiences-who-paid-less, into the Drama on Stage. Lastly, during my first virgin visit to Broadway in 2000, i was lucky to witness Miss Bernadette Peters in the Revival of "Annie Get Your Gun". This is a rare production for a Revival of a Musical performed as a re-run by the same performer & if Miss Sutton Foster can "Defy Gravity" by doing this 10 years later... she can def do this role for the rest of life =)

I know the focus should be on Sutton here, but damn Colin Donnell..... He does things to me 🥵 Thanks for this video, aurora spiderwoman! The most common videos of her Anything Goes run are all of the title song and Gabriel. I think this really shows Sutton as the triple threat she is.
@@auroraspiderwoman5886 It's actually my first time seeing the scene of hers in the first clip! I'm absolutely intrigued though at what you think her take on Marian Paroo is going to be like 👀👀👀
I'm sure I've seen a production where Reno sang "I Get a Kick Out of You" about Sir Evelyn, and it was a real torch song. Sutton is great, but the song doesn't have much meaning singing to to Billy at this point in the script, whereas if she sings it about Sir Evelyn thinking she can't ever really have him, it gives the song more depth, IMHO....
This is when the production was on Broadway. The Barbican where the show is currently playing in London would have thrown whoever filmed this out on his/her ear.
@@chrisvergara989 Exactly right, Chris Vergara. The two big production numbers (title song and "Gabriel") were pretty much covered on TV (albeit without the stage set or some principals) and are to be found on YT.
