  • We sat down with Stacey to get her perspective on my unusual case. She clarified what happened to me regarding my 'anesthesia awareness' experience, and you can see me processing this information in real-time. This video shares lots of laughs and stories from different perspectives. Show Stacey lots of love in the comments because she's feeling a little nervous about being on youtube, but you guys are the best, and Stacey deserves ALL the good things! We love her immensely! There will definitely be more to come from Stacey and others!

    I'm so grateful that Stacey is sharing her side of your journey and helping you to piece those moments together. She is validating what you experienced and helping fill in those gaps. Thank you, Stacey, for helping Christy on her continuing healing process. Christy you've come a long way and it's going to continue to get better. I'm sorry you're still experiencing neck pain. I could see how you were hurting. Get well, my friend. You have so many people pulling for you.

    After hearing a lot of horror stories of health care workers being very unempathetic and uncaring to people in health emergencies etc it’s nice to see there are nurses and workers who are so compassionate and enthusiastic in their care for their patients like Stacy and your other nurses were and still are

    Every Hospital needs a couple Nurses like Stacey!!! It takes a special person to be a Nurse. Especially in the ICU or ER. They've got a very hard job. Some people have no clue. My Sister-in-law started as a RN now years later she's a Nurse Practitioner. She one of the special ones like Stacey.

    Hey my name's Katie I had 3 strokes. I have been airlifted twice and have had over 24 surgerys and I'm fixing to have my next on soon which will be 5 hours long. Surgery scares me because I have woken up during surgery twice. I had a kidney transplant 10 years ago. I love hearing about your story. Your so inspiring 💚

    I’ve never heard of an AOD, so thank you for raising awareness. You are badass on steroids (in the best way, not actual steroid medication🤣). I’d never met anyone else who has woken up paralyzed in ICU during intubation, or had panic attacks in the ICU when I’d just lose….orientation or think the smothering silence was distressing. It’s odd that in those moments it seemed quiet, because I’m sure you, too, have learned it’s not so quiet in ICU! The monitors constantly waking me up IF I fell asleep. It can be so disorienting. Did you ever think you heard rain but it wasn’t actual rain? That’s prob just a me thing, but it’s happened a couple of icu stays. I think it’s the sound of the ventilator and the humidifier for vent (blanking on the term) or something like that. And every day intubated is just stare at the clock every second counting down to when they could next trial me to see if I could be extubsted. I was restrained. I woke up wondering if I was in jail but I knew I wouldn’t commit a crime. 🤣It’s crazy the places the mind can go -and somehow conquer.
    I’ve been in ICU a few times (brain bleed, horrible fungal pneumonia, and resp failure. I was in heart failure at one point, they said.). But those are child’s play compared to an AOD.
    Thank you, though, because I feel less alone/weird in those experiences. And, haha, the swearing occurred w me, too, I just don’t remember. Talking over an ET itself is nearly impossible. But like she said, you’re atypical af in the best way. Just deeply sorry you had to go through ALL of that and for so long. Pls realize how AMAZING you are!

    I am so happy the UA-cam algorithm recommended your channel. Stacey seems like a fantastic nurse. EMS and other medical professionals generally get along because we are in the same world and usually have the same sense of humor (nurse here). I'm glad you became so close and that your friendship has continued since you left the hospital. I've subscribed and am enjoying your videos. Hope you are doing well.

    I’m new to your channel. I’ve watched three so far and I’m intrigued by your survival from such horrific injuries. I wrote two long texts which were deleted when your video ended before I posted them, so I’m going to try to write this before it ends. Your “realness” is captivating. You might have a lot of broken bones in your body but not one ounce of pretentiousness. I look forward to hearing more about your journey.

    I had a crash and broke my L1 in 2 places. Big fusion surgery, 11 days in the hospital, and TRAUMA! Every time I went to sleep I would wake with a startle like I was wrecking all over or some horrible nightmare that scared me to death. I was afraid to go to sleep. The docs told my family that was normal after trauma. It sure was not fun, not easy to sleep and well a nightmare!

    It's interesting that surgeons basically fixed her injury by screwing her skull to her spine that's why her neck is so large now. There's got to be a better way of doing this to give survivors actual good neck movement when they heal. Why can't they leave the patient in a halo until the ligaments and tendons completely grow and heal.

    • @littletraumamama
      @littletraumamama  Рік тому

      I’ve always had a large neck haha. The biggest difference now is just very limited range of motion- I wish it was smaller!

    • @judyoneal7887
      @judyoneal7887 Рік тому +2

      Nate, your comment about “that’s why her neck is so large” is pretty insensitive. You probably wouldn’t have said that to her face, which means it’s not an appropriate comment. At all. Ever.
      I’m gonna assume the surgeon gave her the repair that was required @ the time to protect her spinal cord & to save her life. Having greater range of motion would be nice but, all things considered, the size of her neck is, surely, the least of her worries.

    • @mathildewesendonck7225
      @mathildewesendonck7225 Рік тому

      Omg. Sorry I don’t want to be mean, but I think you don’t get how rare this is that she survived this injury! Her surgeons did a terrific job!! The ligaments will never be the same again after such a big trauma. It would be extremely dangerous without any screws. A better neck movement after such an injury is not a good idea…
