The Siamese fighting fish (Betta splendens), also known as the betta Fish is a popular fish in the aquarium trade. Bettas are a member of the gourami family and are known to be highly territorial. Males in particular are prone to high levels of aggression and will attack each other if housed in the same tank. If there is no means of escape, this will usually result in the death of one or both of the fish. Female bettas can also become territorial towards each other if they are housed in too small an aquarium. It is typically not recommended to keep male and female bettas together, except temporarily for breeding purposes which should always be undertaken with caution.[2]
This species is native to the Mekong basin of Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam and is mostly concentrated in the Chao Phraya river in Thailand. The fish can be found in standing waters of canals, rice paddies and floodplains
Betta Fish are among the most popular freshwater fish around. They are so well loved due to the many different shapes and colors which they can be found in.
There are so many variations that Betta Fish are usually classified by their colors, patterns and tail type.
Their aggressive behavior is often off putting for newcomers to the hobby. However if properly fed and cared for, you shouldn’t have any problems.
In this article we will discuss all the different variations, to help you find the best fish for you.
Betta fish, also known as Siamese fighting fish, are very common with beginner aquarists. They are small and colorful fish with striking personalities.
They have been cross bred over years creating the most amazing colorations and tail variations.
They do not require a lot of maintenance and their physiology and behavior is quite captivating and amazing.
This fish can learn to recognize their owners, and they also create bubble nests. Betta fish have an organ known as the labyrinth organ which allows them to breathe air as their gills cannot always get enough oxygen from the surrounding waters.
There are different ways to classify Bettas by looking at the shape of their tails, their patterns and finally colors.
Tails can have a lot of variation, from long and flowing to short and neat. Body patterns can also have lots of variation, from multi-colored patterns to single body patterns.
However, is it their color that is the most striking characteristic. Betta fish have been bred in all the colors of the rainbow.
When you combine all the different tail shapes, colors and patterns, there are hundreds of different Betta types available and no one fish is the same.
The tail is one of the most appealing characteristics of all the different Betta variations.
Your Betta fish will often be classified by the shape and the size of its tail. From short and spiky to large and majestic, you will find all kinds of tail variations full of striking colors.
The different names usually give you an idea of the tail shape, from the most common such as Veiltail, Crowntail and Halfmoon to smaller sizes such as the Plakat.
There are many types and coloration you just have to find the one you prefer the most.

Yeah... sir you are my inspiration for my aquarium hobby.. I got my first half moon betta fish and I am learning alot while interacting with my betta.. my fish is very happy, and it always come closer to me when I put my finger on the glass.. and also flares and shows its beautiful body with full of majestic movements...
When I bought the fish from the aquarium shop.. I haven't noticed the ICH on the fish but when i came home I realized that.. also gave a salt bath to my betta.. now is perfectly fine and healthy..

It's the best set-up I've ever seen! Apart from this the way he explains the necessities to be followed are so much amazing. I'm also a old betta hobbyist, ive also went to streams, rivers to find fish. Well in the video of Best4pets I've seen mayur sir showing his and his frnds past about finding species of various fish! That reminds me of my days! Sometimes think of going and catching fish but no because I've realised that fishes, they have their own life, own family, own space which cannot be taken awake. So i just go and sit there watching them!

you are right, yet when you provide them an environment they are comfortable with, they will not jump, I have had more Betts jump from empty bowl and almost none from a tank like this

Sir, I have a veiltail betta of pinkish white colour. It's 2.5 months since we got him. He was very healthy and active.
Tank specs: 2.5 gallon
Filter: small HOB with bio rio
Substrate: ADA black sand
Plants: pelia and anubias nana petite
Decoration : smooth pebble and soft riverwood collected from cauvery river fish collection trip
Heater and thermometer: placed after monsoon set in Bangalore
Temperature: 30c
Food : hikari micro pellets
WC: 30%twice a week
Water parameters: RO water with prime. No ammonia nitrate etc.
Problem : Last few days I found hair like fine structure at the end of the tail. ( Didn't have black ends). Today evening suddenly found the tail to be bifurcated from the starting of the tail till end of the tail.
No abnormality in activity or appetite.
WHAT TO DO NOW?

You can install a filter if you want but air pump is not necessary, you can do daily water change of 1%-2%
