The way I started my auto repair business is somewhat similar except I repair Hybrid and Electric cars. I started with 4 thousand dollars just enough for the first month rent and deposit. I was driving semi but I figured that won’t work since I would mostly be hundreds of miles away from my business so I quit and signed up for Uber. Came to find out I could make almost same amount of money and don’t have to drive a big vehicle plus the flexibility of Uber allowed me to manage my shop. I had it set up by appointment so when a customer calls I can log off Uber and head to my shop. I opened Dec of 2022. Ifs almost one year now and I have not Uber in a long time that I am beginning to miss it. In fact I still love doing Uber. I might hire someone who can work on electric car so I can continue driving for Uber, I miss chatting with a passenger and realized driving is what makes me happy.
Man this is super inspiring! I didn’t grow up with many men around and didn’t learn anything when it came to vehicles. I was screwed over by a transmission shop with my first truck which cost me thousands and at that time being 19 I ended up losing my truck and forever regret. Since then I have taught myself anything and everything I can. Purchased a forester XT and built it to run 0-60 in 4.8 seconds from the stock 7 second 0-60 and then bought a 95 Astro van and completely restored that, bought a Chevy express 1500, ford ranger and now building a 12v Cummins to be my tow pig/ work horse for all other vehicles. I come from more of a sales and customer service background than mechanical but see it more as the service provided. I’m the oldest of 7 and to be able to help my siblings, give them a vehicle or help a family or individual in need it seems so very rewarding.
I saw a lot of haters talk mess about your tool box video and I’m thinking in my head it’s your money you spend it how you want and it’s is so cool to see you successful running your own business. Keep up the good work and keep the content coming!

id like to see you buy an auction skid steer to fix and make a profit. Episode 1 can be finding the right one to purchase, episode 2 can be identifying the problems with it, then each further episode can be a vlog of you fixing each component.

I’ve gained a pretty good customer base and I’m wanting to go on my own like yesterday. But I understand the difficulties finding a place because I’m finding nada. Keep posting the videos man. I have morals and I wouldn’t steal customers from the place I work but they don’t care. Just do their best to shut me down. I’ve done everything right and legal. But at the end of the day I’m the top guy they have and they know it would be bad if I left, and although I’ve never taken a customer there would be a good bit of customers they would loose. I understand to a point but it’s just business and it happens and I don’t see how u can fault someone for trying to better themselves
I believe that because a shop owner friend I know makes twice that or more. He probably makes around 70k per month. The key is to charge more and do outstanding job and throw in a few tweets here and there. For example he has a nationwide warranty of two years for customers. He also weed out the customers who are cheap and keeps those who have money to pay.
Good luck to you, there is always a risk in starting a new business, and the new shop looks a lot better for customers than the free place. You keep saying "we". Are you starting on your own, or do you have a business partner or employee involved?
I’ve contemplated starting my own small auto business for years. At this point it’s kind of not really in the cards. However, I’ve often thought about electrical diag for individuals and shops. My biggest fear is messing up on a diag and having to deal with an angry customer. I’m also not good at selling my skill set so I tend to not charge enough for my services. Once you gain a larger customer base it would be interesting to know about the various customer interactions both good and bad.
Make the move man. I’d do it for yourself. Slow down, be accurate with your diagnosis. Charg for your time but if you spend 4 hrs diagnosing something and it ends up being a fuse because you did a bad diagnosis for whatever reason, chalk it up as a lesson learned and charge your minimum.
I had started my own auto body shop in Fredonia, WI 40 mins from Milwaukee where I reside..I helped up for a good 7 months at 1500 a month for rent. Was a nice small shop but since I was not registered yet or knowed in Fredonia it was very hard to keep getting work since only a few of Milwaukee customers followed me. Also I am better prepare now since now I know how to run QuickBooks and Excel to keep up with expenses in a more organize way. Best of luck to you bud!

Who is "we"?...do you have a partner? If so, how do you split profits and what are both of your responsibilities? Thank You Very Much.
I wouldn’t have a partner something as simple as changing something at the bank requires both of you to be there and sign everything it’s a pain then if you want to buy a piece of shop equipment but ur partner doesn’t its just a disaster unless it’s like a silent partner that is funding it. If you do any type of partnership you need to have a lawyer make up a partnership agreement to protect urself like if the partner wants out or if they die or any number of things that could happen so like if one partner wants out you have it set in stone what happens like if you have to buy them out you have it agreed what will be paid, how the numbers will be calculated like if you spent 100k on equipment 5 years ago ur not gonna pay him 50k for that equipment it’s not worth that and he also has been using too so all kinds of stuff like that and how long you have to pay or payment plan if you do it like this then if ur taken to court he can spend all the money he wants on lawyers you have a legal document stating what he’s entitled to or not entitled to. If u have a silent partner because he’s funding you don’t want him to have a piece of ur business forever and many more things to it. If ur shop is very successful you will regret not having a lawyer make an agreement up when the money arguments, I did 2 big engine jobs this week you only did brake jobs, you have a big job or appointment for something that you both agreed on then ur partner can’t stay late because he’s got a family thing going on or whatever. I’m not saying partnerships can’t work I’m just saying they can be an absolute disaster so protect urself. As far as what shop do you lease well if ur goal is to be a real repair shop that’s always growing then don’t make the mistake of renting a shop because it’s the cheapest if there is a shop for 1500 on a side street or business park or just low traffic area in general but there is a shop on a main busy road for 3,000 you want to spend the extra money that 1500 bucks more per month will make you way more money from street traffic alone I mean one extra car per month covers the 1500. I thought small when I was looking as shops I didn’t think I needed a good location because I have a huge customer base but you gotta think growth and you can’t count on any one customer you can have a used car lot that you do 10k in work a month then they go out of business just anything. It really boils down to do you want to start a business or have a job? Businesses grow jobs don’t. I recommend having money saved up and paying off debts before opening don’t use debt to start.

Like me you have hd experiance you should capitolize on it what i have found is the guy with the 30k car has a much more difficult time paying for repairs and payments than tbe guy that has half million dollar 12:29 piece of equipment holding up a 30 million dollar project. 😊 12:2912:2912:29
As someone starting a mechanics business, I’m curious to see more updates as you go maybe how marketing changes, developing recurring customers, commercial accounts with vendors, fleet maintenance, whether you prefer markets of the general public or business accounts, etc. Whether or not demographics for the area you are in may affect the business you receive. As someone who’s just stepping into running a business but has the hands on skill it takes to do the work, I’m curious whether and how soon you plan for things like a secretary, other employees, sales/service advisors, etc. this market can definitely have its ups and downs but people will always have a need for mechanics as long as they’re driving and I don’t see that changing a whole lot anytime soon. Be cool to to see some repairs and not just tool hauls I see a lot of channel start out with repairs then just do tool hauls I enjoy them the same but learning something I might be able to use is also nice but you do you and what you want and I am sure I will still watch regardless
