Of course Israel is breaking human rights laws. what I can't understand is how and why the US and UK governments are still making excuses for these abuses.

I don't get why this case "takes years" when it's so obvious bc the perpetrators are so blatant. The guilty verdict should be announced immediately. What are they waiting for? The courts must act now or be complicit.

Whilst I fully agree, it is nonetheless fairly easy in legal terms to indict individual war crimes (which could be done now by the ICC - not the ICJ) but the brief for the ICJ is to determine genocide, which is a much higher bar altogether: it has always been difficult to prove a case that meets all the requirements of genocide, intent and policy usually being the most insidious. It takes years due to the complexity of any such case. But as stated, the ICC could prosecute people right away.
And as the interview states, there are legal pressures on the UK to not be complicit and be proactive in stopping the genocide by means of sanctions.

Meanwhile, BBC News carries a story about Boris Johnson saying it's "Shameful to call for UK to end arms sales to Israel" - and takes the opportunity to add a bit of editorial on the end of the story saying "British arms sales to Israel are lower than those of other countries." Manufacturing consent to carry on selling those weapons, then. It's OK because other countries do it more.

The overall message everyone should derive from this conflict is how on Earth have we allowed a single entity of humanity to become so powerful; whether it be culturally, financially, or militarily that no one dares to speak out against obvious atrocities that are plain for the eye to see.
