I didn't know much before the Hamas attack .Pleased I found out what has been happening to the Palestines but horrified at the same time.
I think Ilan Pappe has sold a lot more copies of "Ethnic cleansing of Palestine" so people can do their homework. Scary detail but invaluable to understand context.
I knew because I worked on 2 different Kibbutz and the army stayed there and I realised but stayed quiet until now because people would think I was crazy .

I despair at what Israel does. Lebanon is already suffering. How can Israel expect to ever have a peaceful existence if they permanently seek war with their neighbours? Why don't they look for peaceful ways to coexist? I am no military expert, but I can't see this delivering anything other than endless conflict. It is literally MAD.

2006 did create mutual deterrence, so in that sense it upped the stakes for Hezbollah with Nasrallah later saying that had he known what devastation would follow, Hezbollah would have acted differently, most probably referring to its initial cross-border raid that led to massive indiscriminate israeli response.

If they could they would, but they could not. They have the technical capabilities but they lack the resolve and they don't want to pay the price which will be dear. Also, they cannot start another front in the north with Gaza unfinished and they cannot just leave Gaza as is because that will leave Hamas victorious (by default since they were not defeated) , and if they reach an agreement with Hamas on its terms the Northern front will be pacified by default since Hizbullah declared they will stop only if the southern front is stopped, and they cannot stop it on their own and don't want to accept Hamas terms... Why did Israel invade Lebanon in 78, 82, and 2005? Obviously Owen and his expert don’t want to discuss this.
Go ahead and explain it then. I know in 1982 Israel blamed the PLO for an attempted assassination on one of its ambassadors, but it turned out it was an opposition group. They used it as a pretext to invade Lebanon and killed 20,000 people, majority civilians. Looked it up on Wikipedia a couple of months ago.
