The first dhrupad recordings I had heard were from these two maestros about 15 years ago. They are still my favourites. I doubt there will be any more like them.
What an ethereal rendition. Grateful thanks for sharing this. With increasing advancement in sound technology, recordings of dhrupad-s by modern exponents sound beautiful, but these two brothers have a magical X-factor in their gayaki. I have never heard the great ancestors from the Dagar-baani lineage, but with my limited exposure to this art form, I find Moinuddin Dagar to be the last word in Dhrupad. The style in which he applies the swar-s, shruti-s, kan-s, meend-s, gamak-s, etc, is just magical. His relatively premature demise is one of the most unfortunate events in Indian classical music.
Also, they were open minded and did not consider Harmonium and Sarangi anathema. Needless to say, they had a perfect sense of acoustic balancing. In most of the current recordings, the harmonium is so loud that it practically hurts, whereas here the harmonium blends perfectly. Indeed in some aspects, the senior Dagars were unique. They also participated in the 1st APMC in 1960 in Lahore and were highly appreciated by even first time listeners of dhrupad.
The supreme efforts by the singers is beyond description and any admiration.

Any idea who's playing the Pakhavaj?
Alap was divine. The heavy gamak during the pad was a little jarring.
bro that is the beauty of drupad it takes one to love the rough gamakas
This is how dhrupad is supposed to be presented unlike today’s dagars.
Marvellous
