    I think you showed us how to do it the hard way! I'm not complaining because now we know it's easier to do it with the gearbox still in the truck! Great video either way so thanks 😉kia kaha

    no grease on the gears and yes that was the hard way it was made so we can pull the rear driveshaft the 2 tranny bolts and gotta pull a rear link to allow room for the rear shaft to come off which if ya trim it down a bit that fixes that issue they deff thought this truck out ive known about if for a while now i know someone that was doing some testing on them

    Nicely done, i may just have to get one of these!! Did not know it came with underdrive gears

      It does! Right in the box.
      I would be really curious what mods you would do to it.

    This truck has so many things to like... including knowing that you dont need to spend $30 to get overdrive/underdrive out of the box.

    Thanks for the how-to. I'm looking at getting my first crawler, and this is it. Do you mind sharing what brand of "power tool" you are using here or have recommendations for my first tool set? Thanks again

      Yes! This is a great choice as a first crawler.

    I tried to just take off the rear driveshaft and take off the rear of the case but the rear driveshaft doesn't have enough room to take it off of the shaft. So, you'll have to at least take off the rear driveshaft and unscrew the trans from the skid. You could probably leave the other driveshafts on, but they'll probably fall off anyways lol.
    I put in the 20 percent underdrive and also got the treal overdrive ring and pinion. I wonder how much total overdrive that is.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  Рік тому +1

      That should be a LOT of difference.
      If you do the tape test like I showed here, you should be able to estimate the % total overdrive rather easily.

    Being a redcat fan boy I definitely want one of these but maybe with a Chevy or ford body on it vs the fordatsun body that’s on these

    Have a question about a different axle setup Troy I wanna use a trx4 front axle for a rear steer setup and have been trying to figure out if running that axle as a rear axle will need a different gearing inside it so that the wheel speed in the right direction and wanna find that out before I go and buy a axle and servo mount and servo and then it not work
    Do you know or heard of anything that mite help me out

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  Рік тому +1

      The biggest issue should just be rotation direction. Speed can be changed with various gearing.
      I would recommend looking at the exploded diagrams for both axles. This will allow you to see teeth count, so you can calculate the gear ratio.
      Also, the diagrams will allow you to determine the axle spin direction and if the center diff can be turned around to change rotation direction.

    I noticed you didn’t add any grease to the transmission gears. Is there a reason for that?

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  Рік тому

      With all of my testing over the years, I have found that RC typically doesn't need such grease.
      When I rebuild heavy metal gears under a lot of strain and wear - like in my 1:1 Chevrolet Chevelle.
      With RCs, even with my X-maxx, we are just not talking about the kinds of forces in 1:1.

    Not only did it appear to not have any Loctite but it also looked like it didn't have any grease. did you have to add any?

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  Рік тому

      There really is no need for grease on plastic gears. Can actually be detrimental if it holds dirt.

    How do you get the driveshaft off when stuck. Screw is out. Trying to put in underdrive. Back driveshaft stuck.

    I need to get a larger battery for my ascent. I have been using some batteries i have for a hosim h16p. they sort of work, but not really. What do you suggest for mostly trail driving

    Do you recommend you put grease in the gears before driving

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  Рік тому

      I typically do not, or only put a very small amount.
      At the RC scale, I believe grease would mostly be there to reduce rust - not really needed for wear.

    What is the difference between overdrive and underdrive

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  8 місяців тому

      Overdrive = spinning the tires faster than original.
      Underdrive = spinning the tires slower than original.
      For crawling, we want to spin the front tires faster than the rear - and can do that with multiple combinations of overdrive or underdrive.

    Are you concerned at all about those gears being plastic? How about if you were to put a different motor in it, like a fusion pro 2300kv?

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  Рік тому +2

      The gears are really wide, and the teeth are big. Can they be stripped...maybe. I doubt I ever will.
      I see in the manual that they do have a set of metal gears if folks need them.

      I've been running mine with a Crawlmaster V2 and a Revolver 540 on 4S for about 6 months now for testing purposes and they still look new. I'm not easy on them, so I'd be pretty impressed if someone managed to actually strip them.
