The Comsat Angels - Lost Continent [89']

- English post punk band from Sheffield and Doncaster, founded in 1978 and disbanded in 1995. (AKA "Dream Command")... Their music has been described as "abstract pop songs with spare instrumentation, many of which were bleak and filled with some form of heartache." They have been credited as being an influence to later post-punk revival bands such as Blacklist, Bell Hollow, Editors and Interpol. The Comsat Angels toured heavily in the UK and in western Europe, especially in the Netherlands. They also toured the United States twice. Their music has been extensively reissued and recompiled since 1995 by various record labels.

The Comsat Angels reformed the original line-up to play a one-off gig as part of the Sensoria Festival at the O2 Academy in Sheffield on April 26 2009. A different line-up with Terry Todd on bass then played a further three gigs in the UK in October 2009.

Agreed. I vividly recall the first time I ever heard Lost Continent. KFJC radio on the most perfect summer day in San Francisco 1988 driving alone in my mom’s 300D on highway 280 on route to the beach. Listening to this song in 2020 on loop = happy sad emotional torture ripping my heart out I love it so much.

Soo many amazing 80s bands that never got the spot light in the USA and missed by soo many! Once you rediscover these bands it becomes an incredible rabbit whole of non-stop bad ass rare songs!

As a keyboard player I have to say... the *drums* fucking make this track. So good. I don't know how I could have lived through the 80s as a teenager and completely missed these guys, only to stumble upon them in 2020. Always makes me wonder what else is out there that has eluded me.

I was born in '68, so I was a teen in the 80s, way into pop an new wave yet somehow I missed both Dakota - Runaway (ua-cam.com/video/PtcFslJz7p0/v-deo.html) and Frankie Goes to Hollywood - The Power of Love (ua-cam.com/video/NyoTvgPn0rU/v-deo.html) until like 2013.
The Chameleons, also northerm English from the same time. Very similar general vibe, although with their own distinctive sound.
And if you like drums, you will LOVE John Lever's work there (RIP, much too early).
Yeah Chameleons are good. Um. Kissing the Pink is good, The Sound, Asylum Party - french band I think closer to Chameleons. Trying to think of obscure 80's bands with an interesting sound. Microdisney, Marquis de Sade.

Saw this band at a long gone, wonderful venue in Pittsburgh PA called Graffitti on this tour. I’d been a fan since hearing the album “Land”. This band should have been massive. Stephen Fellows melodies are timeless and haunting.
IMHO, their first 3 albums were their best, C.A. were quite big on the independent label charts, but your right, this band should've been massive however didn't quite get the breaks to propel them beyond this point!

Recently found a copy of the "Chasing Shadows" album on CD. There isn't a single bad song on it, they are all brilliant. Probably in danger of wearing it out as it's getting played non stop.
