Y'all lead with vulnerability and compassion, broadcast with attention and thought, and joke with candor and wisdom. Best pod out and should be a must-watch for Black men everywhere. Shout out to MF Mike too.
To John’s point that we are losing people… Y’all are those people now. As long as you continue to share Nikki’s work with your children, and also with people on the platform you currently have… Those recipes will not be lost. We lose people, but their ideas live on through us. Be encouraged by that my boi!
One of the major nuances of the JayZ conversation is that we are living in a different time. 1in 3 girls experience some form of SA, while people are now more opportunistic than ever. Jay being a shady billionaire doesn't preclude him from the right to mount a robust defence. We have to figure out how to balance legal rights with protecting victims esp when there are major power imbalances. I saw all of this as a lawyer and more importantly a survivor whose story was never told. Much Love.
Thanks so much for sharing this perspective so eloquently. I’ve been wrestling with the same competing ideas and really appreciate your ability to speak to both with such fairness and empathy. I’m so sorry for what you experienced and hope you are continuing to heal from you did not deserve to navigate in your life. 🙏🏾♥️
John is sooo right about talking to the women in your life about what they've been through. It really is sickening what they have to deal with. As a fellow wife guy and woman protector I absolutely love this pod.
This was an incredible episode to listen to: laughter, tears, thoughts, the whole gamut. I still remember realising that every woman that I knew decently enough had not just a sexual assault/rape story, but a physical assault story. I've been beating that drum since. Also, no offence to the pod, but I'm a bit irritated that this is how I found out that Nikki Giovanni passed.
To John's point, MLK said we as a people will not gain through capitalism, roughly. Living for and through money is the downfall of society. It's all about the me. And it may be the downfall of our culture. The ones we are losing weren't money first. Think about some of the people who CLAIM to be the new leaders. It's all about donations to their fund. Our leaders from back in the day were poor but worked to make sure the community was taken care of. Their beliefs were to take care of the community, and the community will take care of you. We gotta get back to that somehow.
The UA-cam channel wasn’t his btw it was proven to be a different account and they changed there name after he was arrested. The account has been taken down.
I appreciate the way this pod handled the Jay Z topic. But the truth is we do not know how to handle sexual assault issues as a society. If you strongly deny an accusation, you’re victim blaming. If you’re in Jay Z’s shoes, and you are genuinely innocent…you want the person who has tried to ruin you to be revealed. Jay z being a billionaire or a powerful person doesn’t mean we can’t discuss this with nuance. It also doesn’t mean Jay Z is innocent. Maybe he is guilty, but the pod didn’t seem capable of discussing this without tying this Jay Z’s case to broader societal examples.
Exactly they jumped out specifically to make him guilty until proven innocent and not the other way around. Jenkins said "the accuser is never wrong" WHAT
@@IknowMoreThanYouif you believe false accusations are genuinely a societal issue you are just living in a fake reality. Sexual assaults happen so much more than the false accusations. The data is there. The history is there. There is just something inside you that seemingly doesn’t want to believe it and you should do some self reflection and try and see why that’s so fucked up.
This podcast is phenomenal!!!! Thank you for holding space for women and encouraging our men to stand by us and listen to us. Sending love from Italy!!! Ps - John, you quarterbacked this so perfectly.
If you're innocent you respond exactly like Jay did. There's 0 room to be soft about it when your entire empire is at stake, that means YES you do blame the "victim" since in this case the real victim is potentially you. That "faves should be less problematic with their wording" nonsense has 0 place in 'war' Btw, diddy has a fed case. Jay doesn't. Little known fact; Jay has hated puff for nearly 3 decades and only maintained a business relationship.
