      Isn't the monster trio just a fan-name?
      I don't remember it ever being mentioned in the manga.

    You just gotta love how Luffy's actor says gum gum battle axe in such an anime accent

    • @dragonbretheren
      @dragonbretheren Рік тому +16

      Actually, if anything his accented English delivery makes all the names snappier. Compare (syllables separated by hyphens):
      Japanese: Go-mu-Go-mu-No-Ba-tto-ru-A-ku-su (11 syllables)
      English: Gum-Gum-Ba-ttle-Axe (5 syllables)
      The brevity of the English pronunciations play well to the snappy agility of Luffy's fighting style. Granted, what they lose in turn is the anticipation/wind-up that a longer attack name provides. In Japanese, the anticipation usually comes in the form of a brief hold after Gomu Gomu no~. In English, the anticipation is in Inaki holding the "Gum" syllables for longer.

    As someone who started reading the manga 20 years ago, if I am being completely honest, I actually prefer the live action take on this arc - not something I ever in a million years would have dreamed I would say. There are parts of the anime/manga I wish were here, of course, but overall this really feels like it trims a lot of unnecessary fat (I am one of the weirdos that doesn't actually watch OP for the fights, so fewer of them works for me) and even improves a few things (Nami's earliest scenes with Luffy, everything just feeling more connected instead of a bunch of random events like Mihawk just showing up or Zoro's old bounty hunter buddies giving exposition, etc). Thank you for watching this season through to the end, Angelina! I've enjoyed sharing the beginning of this saga with you. Having watched the anime for over 20 years now, I think that some of most touching/awesome scenes are those which are most faithful to the source material. Some examples are Shanks gifting his hat to Luffy, Zoro's battle with Mihawk, and the final scene where the Straw Hats share their dreams.
    There's so much to look forward to in the next season. You've seen one character teased in the stinger already, and another has been confirmed by the creators. Their presence hints at the possibility of many more, with awesome stories to come. And throughout Season 1, so many future characters and story elements have been teased that, even if I wanted to spoil them all, it might just take all day.
    As for Garp's "abuse" of Luffy: What you saw here and in other episodes is nothing compared to what he does to Luffy in the anime and manga. I think they had to tone it down a bit for TV. And remember: There are soooo many ways to become powerful in this world -- when you see someone really strong, it doesn't necessarily come from eating a Devil Fruit.

    There is something that many people, after the entire season, have not fully understood about Monkey D. Garp... And that is that what he always wants is for each person to follow their path or the ideal of justice they want, with total freedom , wherever that path takes you, but you should always do so with the awareness that actions have consequences. He made it clear to Coby and he makes it clear to Luffy with that 'you're on your own now, kid'... And what finally convinced him was that laugh, which reminded him of his great friend and rival, who had the same unruly spirit that Luffy has, and who is none other than the King of the Pirates, Gol D Roger.

      @@IamGrimalkin well, he was portrayed as a guy loyal to his Marine officer, so I would assume that he will support anything Hina does and thus my assumption of his morality would be a decent one. Also in Syrup Village while he did in fact tried to kill Kaya and kids, he was pretty reluctant to do so, and acted out of fear of Kuro, so in my estimation with Hina instead of Kuro as his superior, he should be much closer to an upstanding person than he was before. Although you can disagree with my assessment =]

    1. If it is not clearly stated that someone has eaten a devil fruit, then they did not.
