Minor error, you showed the MG42 while the narrator said "roller delayed blowback", in fact it is roller locked short recoil operatiion, the STG45 M was the first roller delayed system.
At first: In ,military german' a Gewehr is a fullsize battlerifle, in contrast to Karabiner. In , civilian german' a Gewehr is a long gun, in contrast to Pistole, including wallguns, puntguns, antitank guns, antimaterial rifles and Standbüchsen, a very heavy muzzleloader target gun. Now Volkssturmgewehr consists of three words Volks Sturm Gewehr, so two meanings are possible: Volks Sturmgewehr - peoples assaultrifle or Volkssturm Gewehr- rifle of the Volkssturm. Volkssturm is mostly seen as pure newcrated Propaganda term: But in Imperial Germany Landsturm was used for the oldest serving reserve soldiers, usually only serving in rearline ( in wartime soldiers being younger, but not really serviceable also vame to Landsturm - for example men who had been not full seviceable from body problems since birth or after being badly wounded). In time of HRE, when Germany was devided into 300 small states, Landsturm, Landmiliz, Landfahnen or Landesdefension was used to describe the emerency units/ levies of badly armed and trained men being nearly useless after 1500s.
Volksturm is clearly one word in the name so it can only be translated as volksturm rifle or homeguard rifle. The weapon is not an assault rifle which shows as it is incapable of fully automatic fire
@@TheSuspectOnFoot : I am german, and i think , i know both Standard German and my local dialect. In german we can put together many words to a long compoudword. One example: A law about labeling beef (when you want to sell it ) was called: Rindfleischettiketierungsaufgabenüberwachunsgesetz.- seven words in one! So i simply explained that Volkssturmgewehr can have two meanings. And i explained the origin of Volkssturm. The two s are necessary for german grammar. A strange exeption is Werkschutz, which is for decades used, here realy Werksschutz would be vorrect. Werkschutz means Security Guards guarding factories, formerly large companies had their own Security Branch.
@@brittakriep2938 That was precisely my point that Volkssturm is a compound word referring to the German home guard and nothing else. Adding gewehr only means it's the home guard's rifle. That doesn't mean you can then deconstruct the word in a backwards way to mean people's "assault rifle". Translating it wrong has caused many Americans to think it's people's assault rifle which it simply isn't in any way.
@@TheSuspectOnFoot : This is exactly what i wanted to explain. Volks Sturmgewehr and Volkssturm Gewehr both is in german language as meaning possible, but in historical context it is clear, that it means Volkssturm Gewehr ( a rifle to arm the Volkssturm). Some historical sidenotes about german militias: The oldest german target shooters societies date back to arround 1400, few even older. In those days with crossbows, they trained to defend the town walls. By the time they switched to firearms and in 17th century they became a mix of Militia, target shooters society and tradition keepers , their paradeday and Schützenfest became a cultural Event. Also in rural areas militias existed. For example in my homeregion, formerly Duchy Württemberg, there existed regular professional troops, few compared to Population, and every Oberamt ( similar to County in USA) Had to train a small Militia force called , Landesdefension ', in Bavaria the Landfahnen ( Fähnlein was old german word for Bataillon, so Landfahnen - Rural Bataillons). In towns, especially Reichsstädte ( Free Imperial Towns) this Militias always had a name including eiher Stadt ( town) or Bürger ( Citizens). Up to about 1850 this Militias had been seen as part of Army , but only as third line auxillary/ Support units. Then those Militias lost their Military status and became pure private oranisations. Also more and more non uniformed target shooters organisations Had been founded. Current situation: Most former militias are today civilian target shooters organisations, but : Some bavarian target shooters, the socalled Gebirgsschützen, still appear in an uniform consisting of black Lederhose, a long grey bavarian Jacket and Green bavarian hats, the ,Officers' with a saber, and at the great Oktoberfestparade the horsepulled Coach of Bavarian Governor is escorted by an armed Escort of Gebirgsschützen . In Northwest of Germany the target shooters are sometimes at their , Schützenparade' ( in UA-cam are many Videos showing such a Schützenparade) remember the time, they Had been militias, by wearing , Schützenuniform ', a Green Jacket, Green or black hats ( even tophats!) and black, whie or Green trousers. In other Towns the former militias No more do target Shooting, but wear historic uniforms. This Type of militias are pure Tradition keepers. At historical, traditional, cultural Events they appear, their band plays Marching music, they do a march and drill Show and at the end they fire a blanks salvo. Sometimes, when important and very highrank persons visit the town, this Militia Type, Like in old days, serves as ceremonial honour Guard for the important guest. Two (?) Years ago Duke Carl von Württemberg died, former royal House of Württemberg, and at His funeral such a historical Militia served as substitute for former Royal Guard.
That's a gas mask canister strap? If you or anyone happens to know, was it issued that way or did they issue it without a sling and the person who it was issued just used that strap? Either way, that was the most astonishing part to hear. Another element of desperation in this already desperate rifle
That's pretty crazy The Recoil looks pretty hefty But that makes sense since the entire upper is reciprocating hahaha. Your pronunciation of "Volksturm" convinced me to subscribe. 😊
Incorrect pronounciation made you subscribe?

This thing makes an M 3 "grease gun" look like a finely finished product.
An interesting piece 😮
you would like the book DESPERATE MEASURES
Made so cheap back then and today one of the most expensive non FA NFA axis weapons I’ve come across.
This weapon is pure dieselpunk...I love it.
Oh I know this one, it does +10 radiation damage per shot
@1:04 Italian POWs
14” barrel, makes it NFA?
Probably exempt due to its collectability.
Christ, the sight of that gun functioning is wild; If it were prettier it would be one hell of a piece

The two I’ve seen up close IRL had that strap on them, I think that’s how they left the factory.

Maybe just maybe you can run some of your pronunciations past a native german speaker. You clearly put effort into it but ...
