I admit this version sounds amazing, but I wouldn’t trade it for the 1998 film because it was my first introduction to Godzilla. And I’m still having hopes for that version and H.E.A.T from the animated series to find a way into the next phase of the monster verse , even if it’s completely impossible.
Unless it's humans being ripped apart, they could've gotten away with that imagery as a PG-13 movie if it's the monsters. I mean King Kong ripping a T-Rex's jaw open is less horrific if it was a man ripping another man's jaw.
Ultimately, I just feel so sorry for Jan de Bont. He was a true fan, a talented filmmaker, and he really would have been perfect for the time period. 😔

I would’ve liked to have seen the 1994 Godzilla vs the Gryphon movie made, I especially like the Stan Winston/Ricardo Delgado Godzilla design, since it strikes the right mix of traditional Godzilla with a more theropod dinosaur stance, unlike G98.
This would've been a better film than what we got from Roland, which sadly was in a hand of a studio called Tristar who messed up and should've sticked to the original idea and gave them the budget instead of forcing a director who isn't a fan of Godzilla to direct it. But alas, it needed to happened or else we would've never got what we have now; The Monsterverse. And as sad this never made it to screenplay, it truly was something special in the end to be remembered.
In an alternate reality where we got this film people would probably say why didn't we get the 1998 godzilla film, lol, people don't know what they want. An idea always looks better on paper and drawings.
im sure monster verse could still have happened. or something since its upto toho who gets to use their IP... had this movie been made would have been epic. more hype for godzilla and more american movies. smh. but those buffoons roland n devin ruined that. at least toho was kind enough to give america another chance when legendary wanted to try their take. now we have a worthy american godzilla franchise.
While Zilla will always be special to me(Being my intro to the series) I feel like it would have been better for the original to have been made. Still it paved the way for Legendary Goji so it evens things out a bit. Also damn good model.
It's such a massive shame this never happened. The director was a massive Godzilla fan, Stan Winston's effects would've been amazing & the idea behind the Gryphon is intruiging. It would've at minimum been better than the godawful thing we got in 1998.
I remember reading about this film adaptation in G-Fan magazine in the late 90’s after the release of the ‘98 film. The magazine had pictures of the creature that Godzilla was to fight. Jan De Bont, who is a fan, would have been able to pull this off if an agreement on the budget was made. But this was not to be and Roland Emmerich’s adaptation would have Toho make more films faithful to Godzilla until the 2014 film and the advent of the Monsterverse.
Roland Emmerich is not bad director he did better movies like Stargate, Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012. Godzilla 98 was isn’t his better movie ever
@@ivanrodriguez-zamudio238True, he's not that bad of a guy. His decision making and choices *are* a bit frustrating, however. But, when he clearly said that he doesn't like Godzilla and wanted to turn him into something he's not. Maybe it's best to y'know? Not actually get involved in it?

It truly is a shame that this version of Godzilla never got the chance it deserved and was ultimately replaced by what we saw in the 98 film. And while I don't hate Godzilla 98 since it gave us the animated series which was awesome, I still can't help but wonder what could have been if this version was made. Would there have been sequels or an animated series like the 98 series? So much potential that was unfortunately never realized. Still, hopefully, this version of the King of the Monsters will get the chance to shine one day in the future.
The Winston design of Godzilla has a much more amphibious look to it to me, with the green, smooth skin that resembles an alligator. Does anyone else think so too?
I think it would've been way more successful since it retains the iconic parts of godzilla like his silhouette, immunity to weapons and atomic breath, along with a giant kaiju battle, and since they were planning on making a trilogy, it would likely have sequels and also a tie in tv series.
I would love to see the Gryphon show up in the Monsterverse, allowing the confrontation we should have gotten with this movie to happen now with better SFX and the chance to keep the extraterrestrial bioweapon aspect of the monster as well. Ghidorah was already hinted at being extraterrestrial so it wouldn’t be a stretch to introduce new monsters like it now
Nice video, intro and animation. Also another thing that Godzilla '98 also had from the '94 script was someone talking to a survivor after being attacked by Godzilla and calling him Gojira. 🙂👍
I can't believe they did that Stan Winston was an amazing disigner he made the t-rex from the Jurassic Park franchise and it was scary and awesome at the same time he made the raptors sending chills down our spines he did Predator and the terminator he would do an awesome job with Godzilla and the original story is the closest we could've gotten to the japanese original in 1994 but 4 years we only had Godzilla in name only and many die hard Godzilla fans were not happy but legendary did we all wait for 20 full years for it

It’s interesting that this movie seemed to be inspiration for not just Godzilla 2014-21 but actually seems like a bit of an inspiration for pacific rim as well I do you think about it. Several plot elements were reused in Godzilla 2014, as in both films where Godzilla is destined to save the Earth from a far greater threat than him (The MUTOS and the Gryphon respectively), both films feature Godzilla beheading the enemy kaiju, and the military believing that Godzilla is the bigger threat in both films until Godzilla defeats the main threat. The only differences are while the Godzilla in Godzilla vs The Gryphon does seem to deliberately attack human settlements, specifically the Japanese Kurila Islands and decimates the military's forces willingly when attacked, while Godzilla 2014 was never shown to deliberately causing destruction in any location that was featured in the movie and actually avoids conflict with the military, only causing hindrances and damages to the army through collateral damage.

I don’t hate the 1998 Godzilla albeit it felt like when I saw The Phantom Menace, I would like a movie/mini-series based on the animated series that followed the Tristar Godzilla.
I felt that the ‘98 film had its moments. But, it would’ve been a better film if it wasn’t called Godzilla. If it was titled The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, as a remake, it would probably succeed.
As a huge lifelong Godzilla fan (with Legendary and [forgive me] Singular Point being amongst my favourites... [please keep in mind that covers over twenty years of recent Goji!] I find the Stan Winston version as presented here to be .... Kamata-kun levels of cute, but I really like it and think it looks very threatening and dynamic (and adorable). I do *NOT* hate the design of Zilla, I... just.... hate that they really thought that was a Godzilla.
If this film was released it would have been awesome. Better then the one we got. I wonder what would happen if legendary and Stan Goji met. They do look pretty similar. Keep the good work up!
Coming out just a year after the first Jurassic Park, and having the legendary Stan Winston, this Godzilla film would’ve kicked off a far bigger craze in the west for Godzilla/dinosaur fans. Especially if it got the same marketing treatment. Talk about film of the year !
Hope you enjoy our big DangerVille redesign! Would you have preferred this over the 1998 film?

Just the design alone looks way better than the Monsterverse Godzilla design. I’ll give it a 10/10.
I love the concept of Godzilla being more dinosaur like.. instead of the design’s being more of out of this world-ish.
This design is a million times better. Zilla is his own thing.
