Im all for the hot takes and chaos this show brings, but when they have segments like this where they talk about the details of the game is when Gil's Arena really shines. Seriously, this was intriguing.
🎯
This is what Kobe respected about GIL, the attention to detail
FACTS!
I could not agree with you more.
Brandon said, "They compared you to Gil?" LOL
😂😂😂
The look when he said was to funny
No lie.. full court cone drills are basically the Kyrie Fiba dribble highlight made into a thing 😂
Bingo!
I love when they talk about the intricate details of basketball.

Let’s play prove it. What guy has he taken from a promise to a proven commodity
That's why Embiid's game looks like Jayson Tatum's game. Same trainer. His big a$$ needs to get in the paint and get some post moves.
I like the discourse a lot.....BUT its not like these guys were. efficient NBA scores.. Jennings career 38% fg, Gil 42%, Mccants 43%....
@@mrhoopfan1 you also have to look at it in the context of their era, those shooting splits were above league avg at the time. Now, there is way more space to work with since nobody camps out in the paint.
Bj "yo they compared you to gil" he knew that was a lie 😂😂😂
Hence why Jordan Clarkson, Bradley Beal, and Zach Lavine all have the same bag

I’ve been trying to get kids to buy into this for years. Don’t spend 95% of your time training on stuff you only use 5% of the time. But, it’s too tedious for them and their parents are so used to watching this BS training on the internet they have a tough time appreciating the basics.
This was the most insightful attention to detail they have shown in quite some time. Thank you
Gil: "like" , "you gotta remember", "right"...
Better than Lebron: “Yup, yup, yeah, yup”
“And that’s the thing”
The Gil lingo 😂
Gil lingo: WNBA players should ball in thongs
@@jussarino lmfao. I forgot that one
As good of a score Gil was in the 2000s with Washington, and a NCAA Champ of McCants to say it’s about fundamentals,… Golden. Two points is two points. Easy points is points,
Points in the right times helps the teams win. You can score 30 points and it’s meaningless as it comes to winning the chip. You look great. But, will get ridiculed on why you never led a team to a chip with that much talent. It’s only gotten like that because of media. They didn’t judge players with disrespect back in the day like ESPN does now. In my opinion
@@deelewis8061 I agree. Like lebron had 26 in game 2 against the nuggets with some big buckets down the stretch. BUT with a wide open 3 with 15 seconds on the clock. He didn’t have to shot right then, he won chips passing that shot. But 1 bucket was the difference in the game. Not the refs not the 7 three Dlo had already but 1 shot.
Also I would think relaying to the training aspect there’s so many limits to the players archetype based on their size.
Playing 21 you wound up play 1v3 or maybe more. That’s a good way to work on your “bag” as well.
That's facts
Best part of 21 and Utah when you getting double and triple teamed. We looked forward to having to beat 2 or 3 guys off the dribble to get a bucket.
Big Facts
this is the reasons basketball is so hard to watch now. call me old or whatever but playing for "highlights" make for bad basketball. Well said in this clip!
They don't seem to play for highlights.
@@PotatoGunCamper like they said, do you think Jordan Poole plays good basketball ?
@@PotatoGunCamper what about firing up 3s on the fast break? This is good basketball or a joke? “Highlights” are in quotation marks because it’s more like lowlights
@@patsnation1402 That is NOT the players fault. Taking open 3's over easy 2's came about because of statisticians entering into the game. Over a large enough sample size an open 3 is better than an open easy 2. The math works out that way. As longest you reach a specific range of 3 percentage it is worth it statistically. The players did not one day say, let's drain these 3's for the highlights-- they were given the greenlight in basketballs sort of Moneyball era.
@@PotatoGunCamper the math works if your name is curry and all those guys. How’s it going for the Charlotte hornets for example ? Money ball or broke ball? Who can throw up the most 3s win the game is ugly ball. The rating reflect the same as well. NBA ratings are coming from overseas. NFL is dominating the ratings and taking over the NBA time slots on XMAS.
Wow.
Great segment genuinely surprised why can't your videos be more like this
Mccants full of it. If you watched MJ he didn't make it tough. Got to his spots and torched folks. Get buckets until they can stop it.
💯 all great scorers have spots on the floor that if they get there it’s over!
@juliusedwards7199 exactly. Why waste energy toying with your food if you're a "killer"? They contradict themselves a lot.
MJ had a simple but effective game, but to be honest it was easier to torch those guys doing man defense then and ISOs. Kobe needed more moves to do the same, but Kobe faced better defensive schemes.
@PotatoGunCamper Agreed. My issue is their concept of how easy to score 30 and how they played. Why wait for a double team to shoot a less efficient shot? Let me dribble 30 times to kill clock and do a step because it adds "difficulty". Mccants must didn't hear Kobe when he said you can't win with that style of basketball.
All the great ones do. Kobe kd mj bron wade etc
I love it when they all have their own perspectives on the game especially since they have actually played since as a kid!
I’m a skills trainer for my varsity Hs team and this is the training style I’ve implemented. I work with guys privately to help them develop their weaknesses but also make them do things outside of what makes them comfortable
THIS is why I tune in. The hot takes and trash talk are fun and bring views but segments like this that give insight into what/how pros see the game and the world are why I'm here. Well done, gentlemen.
Gil's strengths come out when he discusses the details of Basketball and not the absurd takes he usually has about other topics.
I love that they are talking about this. Training and skill definitely must be holistic because every player is unique, even with body mechanics. Its definitely an art!
One of the best conversations. I’m glad he called out Brinkley and Pure Sweat
How lethal shooter catch a stray ? He has results and they go to him for shooting specifically
Gil had lethal on his pod before lol
Facts. What they saying don't even really apply to bro. Everybody gotta keep the shot sharp.
It’s because everybody thinks they have to be a sharpshooter to play basketball nobody works on being a slasher or a post scorer they automatically go to shooting and think they’ve got it figured out . It wasn’t a shot just a reference.
I remember days growing up training in any sport there would be a day where the defense could literally do anything and get away with it because not everything we see is really going to happen in the game we have to be able to read the game in any sport and the be able to come back to coach and describe what’s going on
Good clip guy's!
Awesome content
MJ was the master of keeping it easy and simple. He would pull out the advanced stuff only when the defense forced him to or if he got too bored.
exactly. the players with the deepest bags don’t need to show it off if they know they can score with a simple move every time. when you go to the park you see people dribbling for fun and to show off handles, shit cool and all but it’s all for show unless you can get a bucket.
I guarantee u werent alive to see him play.
Good segment
Mccants really think he was him lol
He was in college
“They compared you to Gil?”😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Gil should be a Coach
Work on your weakness , watch tape on other players weakness , get better at what your better at. Easy really and trainers should be about adding stamina , strength and staying healthy.
The dead space thing makes sense for the NBA. But for kids in high school and college they are going to be picked up man from half court if not farther so they need to understand how to dribble through that.
Leave Lethal Shooter out of this convo. He strictly helping the people become better shooters.
Lethal Shooter a shooting coach he not giving people generic dribble drills to do. And from what I’ve seen, the people he trains with regularly all have improved their shooting. I agree with most of the dribble guys though. Phil Handy one of the few that I’ve seen prepare people well for in game situations.

He (Rashard) definitely wrong about Chris Johnson! He trains you exactly how Gil explained it should be done. Can’t fend for other names but Chris Johnson definitely does it the right way.
On a serious note, to many step back three's for highlights instead of taking the easy two. I always said that.
love this
I’m just waiting for Gil to finally remind McCants they were never in the same category in the NBA 😂
I don’t remember a soul turning on NBA live to play with McCants
McCants was nice before he got hurt.... he wasn't a bum. He was highly regarded as a prospect out of college
Mccants could Go back then, wasn’t no slouch
Mccants player in live could shoot and dunk he was a problem
At that time if you were a guard that was 6’3 to 6’5. They either compared u to Gilbert j rich or dwade. Tweener guards. Mccants had game bad situation
@@chaasadbanyahawadah5471 he was good in college and a lot are. In the NBA at absolute peak prime be was a average second option. Gilbert was a top 5 scored on the NBA and multiple time all star. They aren't remotely comparable. Jennings also was far better, short career but a 1 option and all star level player before injury.
When they talk like this it shows that they played professionally
Gil was spot on
Lethal Shooter Saya that he studies his clients prior to working with them and it shows in the improvements that they've made
This is great content for training for developing players but I feel a valid point was missed during this conversation. The tendency to go for 3 is due to the demand and suggestion of shot choice with the new dependency on analytics. Gil is right, yes the 2 is given but a PJ tucker is strictly 3 or pass.
Harden was advised and successful going to the 3 - Morey’s Analytic Rockers + Harden had bought in. Ultimately, Kobe was right; this play style doesn’t win
Now you see why NBA ratings are down, even though the younger fans always say elite players today are more skilled and have deeper bags.
All these elite players with "bags" but can't win enough games for a playoff spot or be the #1 on a playoff team. It's why I'll always rate the 2000s superstars over the ones now or recently. Those stars were made men, and transformed whatever team they were on to playoff teams but and had to battle other hall of famers.
ratings are down because of cable cutting

Leather Shooter catching strays 😂
Ya'll need to have a convo with Lethal Shooter and at least give him a chance to speak
I see this alot..especially with big men..I've seen alot of big guy, centers other guys doing double.cross..between the legs stepback jumper...I'm like unless the shot clock winding down..when are you ever going to do that move...you rebound and defend. And catch lobs...why are you working on stepbacks, and pull ups...
they just tryna be versatile bro. not everybody can be wemby with the shot creating or KD, but it’s cool to see people expand their game; but you right. the traditional big man is a lost art in the NBA because the game is expanding to where guards aren’t the only ones who can shoot anymore. the small guard has disappeared. basketball is more position less. the forwards play like guards now, and the centers shoot lights out and move like they’re 6 inches shorter. even Embiid you would think he would just be a paint beast but he’s over here hitting stepback middies and threes
Shotmaker first. Master making the simple shots first. A bucket is a bucket. No "style points". 👍👍
in the modern NBA players fly private have nutritionist the best prep and post recovery technology in sports history EVER and it's still one of the most injury prowen eras ever calf strains/Achilles injuries ACL's hamstrings a lot of non contact injuries more like attrition injuries which I don't get especially with the absurd amount of recovery tech and information available
With the amount of travelling that these players do, I firmly believe they are not given more natural recovery time, we have this tech to 'rush' their recovery, but you need actual time to recover and recuperate properly.
My thoughts:
Too much specialization at too early an age:
Playing other sports, utilizing other muscles and skill sets, was natural cross training.
Too much play via AAU:
Too much court time because of AAU during the summers. There is no offseason to actually rest.
Mental burnout leading to physical burnout:
By the time these youngsters get to the league they’ve already been playing 15-20 years of basketball and many of those years with injuries.
Highlight culture:
It’s hard for me to watch basketball these days because everyone wants to show off their bag rather than take a simple shot.
I’ve seen a player dribble a for 15 seconds when he could’ve gotten his shot off within the first 10 seconds several times.
What the guy said before me. It is what NBA research says too. These young guys come into tye league with a body with 30yrs of age to playing too much basketball and only basketball.
back then you had players like brandon roy , greg oden , gil , brendon jennings having their careers cut short because of injuries. we now have players playing til their late 30s. so the improvement is quite clear
Players have always been injured...part of pro sports
I’d say mccants game was like randy foye iykyk
McCants talking like he actually trained is hilarious 😂. Call Pat Bev
I think the thing with euro players is everyone says in the playoffs the game slows down. Which means the playoffs is made for euro players because there game is more skilled based vs athleticism.

This was a bad take taking shots at Player Development Coaches (trainers). You don't just focus on a player's strengths and improve them, you help them develop their weaknesses. Some stuff can't be cookie cutter like Gil said, I agree with that. McCants is tripping saying to train like your favorite player. D Wade can be your favorite player all day long, but if you don't have his athleticism then you can't mold your game after him.

I’m glad Brandon brought up Poole, because that’s who I was thinking about through most of this discussion.
And another problem is the some of these trainers want to be stars like the players

Everything Gil And Rashad Are Saying Is "ABSOLUTELY CORRECT"!! However, The Reasons Why Basketball Has Lost Its Way In This Country, Is Because No One Teaches The Basics, Therefore No One Masters The Basics.
