Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (after Sicily). It is an autonomous region of Italy, and the nearest land masses are (clockwise from north) the French island of Corsica, the Italian Peninsula, Sicily, Tunisia and the Spanish Balearic Islands.
The name Sardinia came probably from the ancient sardinian mythological hero and god whose name was Sardo. Sardinia in the past was also called Icnhusa and Sandalion by the ancient Greeks and the Romans.

Lived here in the 1980's one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Loved the culture, island, food, language and the people. There is nowhere you can go and not see it's beauty. Completely unique! I have visited 3 times since leaving Sardegna and were it possible would spend rest of my life in this place.
Sardinia is not italy, it never was and it never will be!! Being under italian rule at this moment in history doesn't make us italians! The future and the only hope for Sardinia and it's people is a sovereign Sardinian state. This is the destiny of our ancient island, and soon or later (if you like it or not..) IT WILL HAPPEN!!

Actually Sardinia is, historically, one of the first regions of Italy. In fact it was part of the kingdom of sardinia (1720 - 1861) that included Piedmont, Aosta Valley and Liguria

Sardignia not Italy. Not because we are better but because we are different. We've been colonized by many different populations over the years because of our strategic position in the Mediterranean sea and that's what makes us unique. This distinctions, from the other regions of Italy, are stronger and if you ever been in there you'll know it. Just for the record, in some cases all over the world islands are considered "different" from the country that they belong to. Ask to a Korean what hey think about their island.

I was looking forward to visiting Sardinia, but these comments scares me a bit.

La risposta a questo problema si chiama Indipendenza ( passaggi obbligati sono, l'autonomia, il federalismo e la devolution).
Indipendenza vuol dire "essere protagonisti" non dividersi da chissà cosa.
Vuol dire "essere sovrani".
Non ti basterebbe essere uno stato in una nazione federale italiana?

Oggi il Sardo non è sovrano ne del il suo portafoglio, ne a casa sua. Il Popolo Sardo non è sovrano nella sua terra, non è sovrano di se stesso, ma adotta delle scelte designate da uno stato centralista estero, perchè sta fuori dal territorio Sardo.

L'unico suo difetto è che è monotona, ma la pronuncia in se è piuttosto buona, soprattutto se paragonato all'orrore assoluto che è la pronuncia inglese dell'Italiano medio.
