I'm watching this because I bought the Carenado Cessna C208B for X-Plane and there was no information in the manuals on how to operate the GNS 430. This video has been so helpful! Now we will see just how much Carenado has modeled in this little baby.

So far the best information out there that I could find on these systems. I use it in conjunction with my own simulator I have installed on my MAC ( I use Parallels Desktop for MAC ) and I have learned a lot. I think I will revisit often to stay current. Thank you!!!
Awesome JOB! The EC145 with dual GNS430's does not automatically change frequencies and CDI selection. However the GNS430 does send a MSG to the pilot to make the switch over, a very smart Garmin!
Thank you, a great tutorial on the Garmin GNS 430/530. I purchased a RealityXP GNS 430/530 WAAS for flight simulation (FSX) and this tutorial has been just great to learn what this unit is capable of. Thank you.
good vid,,, one thing I would point out,, garmin recommends using the FPL button over the direct button for trips... the reason is as soon as you have a cross wind ,, the direct line course will move as your position moves as you are blown off course left or right ,, making your leg not straight ,, whereas if you have a flight plan made up,,, the line is always straight from depart to arrival airports
Great, love this as I have always wanted to fly in mfs2020 by vectors, Rnav, ILS etc, very cool. Makes sense but then I forget after its done. Plus, I have the Mooney M20 as well lol
im back to flying after a break, back when we used LORAN and ADF!! Now my rental planes have the Garmin530 and I dont wont to use my cell phone maps or a a tablet...Time to learn the Garmin!
Thank you, just wish you had recorded it at a higher resolution as it was difficult to make out some of the letters. Is there a GTN 650/750 tutorial available?
Thank you for tuning in and for the feedback. You bet there are several tools to help get you up-to-speed on the GTN product line. We offer a free PC simulator here: ms.spr.ly/6055TdPC5 as well as an iPad app for download from the Apple app store here: ms.spr.ly/6056TdPCg We also offer a comprehensive online class available here: ms.spr.ly/6058TdPCi Thank you for being a Garmin customer! ^DK
Thanks for the video Garmin, are there different variations of the GNS 530? On your video towards the end where you speak of the features I noticed the NAV screen has 4 pages however the aircraft I'm in the GNS 530 only shows 2 pages. thanks for all your help. There is also no VNAV button shown on this 530.
We did the best we could at that time the product was developed in 1998 to display as much information as we could in a meaningful way. Since then, the GTN series does insert published altitude constraints for each leg in the flight plan and can even offer vertical guidance to each of them. Using the GNS 430, you’d need to reference your procedure chart to better understand that. You could consider upgrading to a GTN Xi series to get these and many other updates here: buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/in-the-air/general-aviation/general_aviation_navigation_radios/cInTheAir-c582-c585-p1.html ^DK
I will add my voice of appreciation and gratitude for this great video. I have a question: is it possible to create an arbitrary waypoint (i.e. not listed in a menu) by using that arrow that shows up when the small right knob is pressed in map view (even if one takes the arrow far away from one's current position)? Thank you in advance.
a great video.. could do with more examples and details especially on the ILS approach and final. however in my view no video on utube comes close to this one.
Naahhh, they talk about flight simulators which actually simulate the garmin430 pretty well, too. (FSX, X-Plane 10, Prepar3D) . They´re not expensive or so, just buy something used and start navigating AND flying.
Hi, we offer a PC-based simulator here: www8.garmin.com/include/SimulatorPopup.html. We offer our current production navigators for simulation on the iPad here: www.garmin.com/en-US/search/?query=trainer%20aviation. Thank you for being a Garmin customer.
The most current version of the simulator supports Windows XP: www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3527 Support for Windows 10 is not currently planned. ^DK

@@GarminInt According to your download pages, these simulators work in Windows XP only. I tried running it in Windows 10 but no joy. I could probably set up a WinXP virtual box on my machine and install it there. Any chance Garmin will ever produce an updated simulator for Windows 10?
go to the Garmin web site and choose the version you want: www8.garmin.com/include/SimulatorPopup.html once you download the file, double-click it to begin the installation process, follow the prompts. After that you can find the icon (probably on your Windows Desktop?), and double-click it to open the simulator. Good luck!
I'm scared to download this link for downloading virus into my computer. I also need one for Windows 7! Please let us know if you GARMIN release it officially. Thanks!
This Garmin Video fails to have empathy for the viewer. Frequently a simulator will not show what he shows on the video. There is no careful attention to ensure that the viewer is pressing the right buttons and getting the right display. Like most Garmin Video's the audio proceeds rapidly without pauses and rushes steps into each other. I watched this video numerous times and it leaves me frustrated and wondering when anyone will post a video on how to become competent at entering and using flight plans in the Garmin 430.
8 years later and this video is still valuable.
The best tutorial I’ve seen on the Garmin430. Excellent instructor.
This is one of the best tutorials on the 430 that I have seen. It is well compartmentalized and practical. Great work!

well u better ready yr book on the WAAS,,, there is some differences between the 2
what is WAAS? THANK YOU
I’ve been away from the 430 for five years. The video is a great refresher. 👏👏👏
20 years with my 430. Not only is it still useful, I added a second 430. This one unit brought the level of all GPS navigators up.
Especially for a German beginner like me. A really good tutorial. Step by step lesson. 👍

great video. recommend you put the time indicators in the description on where each topic is located.

Thanks for the upload
Wish he'd cover a VOR approach...
I agree. It's kind of goofy that the latest Windows OS you are compatible with is one that is almost 12 years old.
Just what I needed....Thanks.
9 years later and it’s still up to date lol
great video!!
Excellent tutorial .. More please :)
Very good!!
Gee, that simulator looks neat. Very useful. TOO BAD YOU DON'T HAVE A MAC VERSION!
Get bootcamp or Parallels works great on my MAC
The Garmin simulators run acceptably well under WINE on Mac. A little bit of setup work, but it is worth it.
Excelente.
Hi, where did you get that Garmin 430 app to be able to practice
Garmin website. It's called Garmin 430 Trainer
what a good video I want to have a simulator to have all stuffs can you guide me for that
Excellent!!! Thank you
Can I make a suggestion Mr.Presenter? You look to commercial. A clean sports shirt would be more relaxing to us students.
I keep seeing folks here post something about a Garmin simulator. How do I subscribe to the simulator?

Please reference this for more information regarding ECCNs: support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=5Gk2pIRhPP99Y3OOUQXUz7
