Plastic body is not a negative, construction workers hard hats are plastic and although lightweight are tough enough. So if the plastic body saves weight and makes it less expensive it's a win win in my book.
I just discovered your channel as i'm looking to upgrade from my lumix g7 with 14-42mm kit lense for vlogging. I think i've decided to go for the lumix g9 and the lumix 12-60 lense as I don't think the leica will make much difference for what i'm mainly doing. With both the body image stabilisation of the g9 and the OIS of the lumix lense I think its going to be a very solid upgrade. By the way, I just want to say that I can see you put so much work into these videos and the quality is second to none. Videos always flow so well and I the lighting is always on point! You've earned yourself another sub and I wish you luck with the future mate :)
The G9 with the Lumix 12-60mm is a solid choice Lach. I haven't had any experience with the G9 personally, but I know the 12-60mm Lumix kit lens has some decent glass and is able to achieve some sharp and beautiful images. The specs of the camera make it sound like a great choice. Thank you for the sub. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me Lach 💪💪💪
Hello, I have a gh5/14-140 combo. I am thinking about the leica 12-60 2.8-4.0. My question is about your AFC performance/experience with this lens, also how does the AF follows when zooming. My gripes with the 14-140 are sticky zoomring and weak in following zoom in AF. Thank you for your reply, Frans/Bali
Hi Frans, I haven't tried testing the AFC performance when zooming. I mainly shoot with the lens in manual as the autofocus on the Gh5 isn't fully reliable. It's always pulsing and hunting for things in the background (with my experience using it). I've heard of people getting better results with the autofocus using the Panasonic 35-100mm (watching UA-cam reviews), although I haven't had the chance to see for myself. If I could go back and change time, I would have got the Panasonic Leica 35-100mm instead of the Leica 12-60, as it has a constant aperture of f/2.8, and doesn't stop down as I zoom in on the lens like it does with the 12-60mm. I hope this info helps you in your decision 🙏
Yo Sup SDOT420, as a fellow G camera (G9) and the Leica 12 - 60 and many others, I had to subscribe and like today. I like the number 420 and Panasonic so you got a friend. Thank you for this informative detailed review and the great production value in the vid. Nice work. The smoke, turntable and lighting, and more, sweet.
NEO DON thx for the Sub 👑🙏 The Leica glass and the Panasonic body make a great combo for video and photography. You made a good choice buying that combo 💪 Are you a photo or video guy? or both? 🤔
I have been using the cheaper one for years on my G80 and must say this combo is fantastic! I only shoot 1080p/60fps on the G80 and use 4K crop and the teleconverter with no loss of quality. This combo is all I take on trips, even that I have a G9 and GH5. I cary the camera with a wrist strap, put it on full automatic and with moving my finger just a bit I can choose between a photo or video. That is not possible with the G9 because the lcd display is in between. I recently got the Leica version with my GH5 and must admit the zoom is more smooth and I think this one is par focal. Having the cheaper one, I would not purchase the Leica version and invest in some other lens. I don't understand why they use this non linear focus, it's a pain in the *ss. My 12mm F1.4 has lineair focus and it's a dream to use on a follow focus like the new compact smallrig. Last remark, the G80/G85 is all you need. Just ignore all the nonsense you see and hear about the post chromatic blabberation in the shadows of the left upper corner pixels high lights.
Bob van der Balk I totally agree with you on the focusing. Total pain in th the *ss...lol I also got my leica with my GH5. I have to admit that I am leaning towards using my GH5 more, but I still love the convenience that can't be matched with G85/G80
I agree Cheap Charlie Chronicles. I got the 12-60mm Leica as a kit lens with my GH5. It's very sharp and versatile, while still being optically stabilized. Thanks for checking out the video 📹 😀
I suggest we take the discussion in a different direction ...what need is there for greater magnification than 1 1/2 X....30mm...35mm ..do we need 60mm? Can we return to this subject AND include 12 35 f2.8 Panasonic...also the actual significance of alloy verses high quality plastic ...which has proven itself as a comproble and I would say better material ...I talk of high quality plastic .. Meanwhile ...wide angle lens please ..a shootout of 7-14, 8-18...f2.8 Vs f4...
Manoftheroad those are all terrific points for comparison. I will definitely keep in mind for the future if I purchase any of those lenses you mentioned. The 12-60 Leica is a kit lens for the GH6. I think if a person doesn't have an all around zoom already it's a huge value.
