Stegman's Venom will hold a place in my heart because the Cates run was the first run i was really getting into comics and his artwork for the various versions of Venom (regular, corrupted, winged, etc)
The discussion early on about the black Spider-Man suit was spot on, it really is an amazing suit and thanks to Venom it's bascially become a mandatory stable of any Spider-Man incarnation, I can't think of many other alternate superhero costumes that can claim that.
A few variants I'd love to hear your thoughts on that weren't brought up: Superior Venom from the Superior Spider-Man run Venom from the Spider-Ham universe who does indeed have tusks And the absolute insanity that is Venom Noir
Does nobody else remember the original Frank Cho design for the Angelo Fortunato Venom from 'Marvel Knights Spider-Man'? It didn't have the orca eyes, but instead had 6 dots (like on dice) in the centre of it's head. It kinda looked like the xenomorphs from Aliens. I don't think it had the chest symbol either. The design obviously didn't make it to comic, but I'm sure it was in Marvel Previews. A hasty re-design, I guess. I'm definitely not just imaging this.
The problem with the orca suit is the eyes make him look too human. It loses that scary monster appeal and becomes more of a buff dude in a super suit.
Interesting that you bring up the shark look for Bagley's venom, because that would to me looks more like a piranha, something small and scrappy. Sal notes that he's not quite as jacked, as well. I associate Larsen more with a shark-like look.
Haven't finished the episode yet but I'm liking it a lot. Now the obligatory question: when are you guys doing an Iron Man centric Episode? It would be cool to go through the best and worst armors
To this day, Mark Begley, Eric Larsen, and of course Tom McFarland are my three biggest influences and references ideas when I illustrate Venom. They are my Muses and still find them inspiring to this very day!
So, you like Madness, huh?! Well have I got "good" news for you! It's back! Madness is the new Hybrid, debuted in the recent Liz Allen "Misery" book. The look is a hot mess but it kinda works. Can't believe nobody mentioned Circle of Four -- Venomised Red Hulk with a Spirit of Vengeance and a blood red goat head symbol on the chest complete with groin beard.
47:40 Bren Waters is the current host of Toxin. Patrick Mulligan will always be my favorite Toxin host but Bren has really grown on me because I like his relationship with Toxin.
I know this is super late to reply but I would love to hear both of you rank the Marvel Spider-man game suits and what suits you would have preferred be added if there are ones you dont understand why they were added etc.
I always preferred Bagley's sleek and awesome look. My second favorite is probably during The Hunger for the detailing in the suit, not necessarily the ridiculous jaw and teeth. Mostly just adding a little Giger in there, which feels very appropriate for Venom. P.S. She-Venom got the "D" 😏
I really don't like Larson, I think Todd's initial look can be a bit more basic I prefer the restraint over Larson's which feels more sloppy. I like Mark Bagley's take on venom the most personally if the "classic looks" for him. It's a good compromise between twisted Spider-Man and straight up monster. Anything that follows closer to that is usually my preference, but I've seen plenty of fun, even if at times silly looking, variations that lean into the initial debut facial look.
Man, I never knew it existed, but I really hate Erik Larson’s version. It just looks so over the top it’s gone beyond frightening into a stupid parody of itself.
I read that Space Knight run. Awful. We meet some symbiotes with alien hosts, but nothing interesting is done with them. The Space Knight suit looks better in Ewing/Ram V run, but only a B for me
I really remember disliking the Matt Gargan era of venom as a whole growing up cuz it was definitely a "why does venom look like this? That's not my venom!" period for me growing up. Looking back on it, Idk there's some neat stuff from that time and stuff I do kinda like on reflection. But I am glad it's over, even if I'm not thrilled with everything that's been done after that point.
Erik Larsen's Venom will always be my favorite version, it took Mcfarlane's creation and amped it up to differentiate him more clearly from Spider-Man and give the character his own distinct silhouette. I also think his take on Venom was great because it physically reflected the unstable mental and emotional nature of the character. That said, I was never much of a fan of Bagley's depiction, it felt too reserved and streamlined - it lacked the savagery and unhinged edge that is associated with the character.
Mark Bagley’s venom specifically ultimate venom will always be the first image that pops in my head when I think of venom.
I LOVE the use of purple for the symbiote
Me too!!!
Stegman's Venom will hold a place in my heart because the Cates run was the first run i was really getting into comics and his artwork for the various versions of Venom (regular, corrupted, winged, etc)
I really dig Agent Venom. Any of his looks, even the Space Knight costume haha.
a daredevil one of these would be really fun considering all the new recent suits!
One of the most iconic rivals for Spider-Man!!! Venom was my favorite as a kid, and I still have a great fondness for him.

Wait they did a venom noir?
@@benhramiak8781 Yep! It's pretty new. He was like a priest or something. It was wild
@@benhramiak8781 and it as same mental as Venom from the movie. Because Venom noir didn't bond with Spider-Man noir
When I think of Venom it’s mostly the Todd McFarlane creation, but it’s surprising how many variations and iterations there are of the one character.

Venom 2099 is my favorite Venom design ever. It’s just the right amount of 90s edge.
The problem with the orca suit is the eyes make him look too human. It loses that scary monster appeal and becomes more of a buff dude in a super suit.
Bagley Venom is Perfect S, though there is something about the molar teethed, shit eating, evil grin of MacFarlane Venom that I love :)

You might bot be making contributions to the comic industry but you definitely are in the comic community. Keep on truckin.
Looked it up and wow Erik Larsen draws like that!? Thats pretty cool
Haven't finished the episode yet but I'm liking it a lot. Now the obligatory question: when are you guys doing an Iron Man centric Episode? It would be cool to go through the best and worst armors
Feel better soon

I’m I bad for expecting a double D puns for She Venom

The gargan version would have benefited from swapping the blue and black
Agent Venom is something else man.

I really, really enjoy Capcom Venom. Not so much the in game model, but the Bengus art
I’m surprised you haven’t ranked Spider-Man’s costumes yet
Sick Sal can read me some bedtime stories
Great episode! And get well soon Sal 💙
33:27 looks like venom if he joined the gangrene gang!
Great video but i personally disagree about Venom's toes. Gimme Venom's piggies
What about the current ones? Dylan's Venom and all of the symbiotes Eddie is in the symbiote garden place that are from different points in time?
Being sick sucks. Wanted to mention the most recent red suit and the chains.

Bagley’s Venom is the best of the classic designs

Engagement and interaction with creator to please the mathemagics that choses what gets seen or not.
You guys forgot spider's shadow venom
No
