Dealing with a MEAN Hive of Honey BEES - FINAL CHAPTER - Modified Taranov Split 4 Week Follow Up

  • A few days ago I performed an inspection on the split we made from the original “Mean Bee” colony 4 weeks earlier. This will be the final video in the “Dealing with Mean Bees” series, at least this particular colony. It has been a fun adventure for sure! I have learned a lot of things through this experience, both good and bad. Hopefully my beekeeping skills have improved through this process.
    I realize that, as with most things related to bees, this method will not work with every aggressive colony. Sometimes other techniques, such as requeening, might be necessary. We are still so early in the process with this hive so I guess they could still develop a nasty attitude but so far things seem to be going well.
    I hope you enjoy this video I would appreciate it if you would “like” and subscribe to my channel. Thanks for checking it out!!!

    Good Lord! I’d like to order 10 queens please!

      Would like to sell queens. Just difficult to manage consistent queen rearing with everything else I am trying to do , namely work full-time lol. Maybe someday...
      I did take a stab at it last year and ended up with a few. I mostly just do walk away splits, use queen cells that I find during inspections or order queens.
      I must admit though that this queen is kicking tail. I peeked I’m on them again yesterday (6 days after this video was created) and the top box is in large part drawn out already. I checkerboarded the entire hive when I put the second deep on there to hopefully inspire them to work quickly. It seems to be working!
      Thanks for your comment. Stay posted. If I ever get around to making queens to sell and ship hit me up and I will get some to you!🐝🙂

    Love the videos, a little off topic, but what is your the type of video equipment you use? The picture and sound quality are amazing.

      I use an iPhone XS. Just got it a few weeks ago after I decided to get serious with this this UA-cam thing. I had a 6S before that and it was “ok” but this one is much better. Sound wise I use a Kimafun 2.4g wireless mic with an adaptor that I got at Walmart so it will work with the XS. It is a little tricky using it with a veil but I think I might be getting a little better at it. I use iMovie to produce the videos. I basically use my phone for everything. Down the road I might look into upgrading equipment but for now this works.
      Thanks for watching. Great question!

    Im dealing with a mean new hive. The only one I have at the moment. Im in Ozark as well. Can I requeen it with a mated queen and get a mated queen for the split as well and help the situation. My first hive inspection was a disaster.

      You can do that but it is getting to be a little late in the year.

    A couple of 3 times. Does that mean you fed them 6 times? ;-)

      @brucesbees  5 років тому

      I am not sure. Probably meant a couple or three times.

    I've stopped this video and rewatched the first 20 seconds about 30 times. I swear at the 13 second mark it looks like queen is coming over the "ramp" right at half way up the screen. Looks like a longer bee without the bands of the workers. May be my eyes playing tricks

      I see what you mean. Could be. It’s a little tough because I shift off of there right at that moment. Good eye though!
