I’ve been really into Gateway lately. I love that they have discs like the Apache and Chief, as I’m actually from the San Carlos Apache tribe in AZ. The Chief OS is severely underrated. Get yourself one!
The Chief is the best approach disc on the market. So consistent and great feel in and out of the hand.
Gateway has some great stuff. I bagged the Blade for a long time and really enjoy the Chief and Chief OS.
That’s what I was gonna say. Chief and chief OS are great low profile putters and throwers. My chief got extremely different and beat up after a few rounds 😢. Now very understable. Might try it in a different plastic
Yoooo this is sick. I just got picked up by Gateway for their Ambassador squad so I have been combing UA-cam for reviews on their stuff to see how they compare to my thoughts
Disc Golf Nerd has quite a few Gateway vids, although many of them are older.
Just got a bunch of gateway for my first season of glow. I ordered 12discs off their website, and they sent me 3 extra for free! The Element, Spirit and of course the Wizard are amazing!
I have to slow the videos down to .75 speed so that I don’t get a headache from the speed talking, but good video 👍🏼 I’ve been looking to get into these smaller companies so this helps a lot
lol
agreed. I REALLY want to like watching these, but the insane speed of speech is nerve wracking. I used to wonder if meth is involved here, but I am starting to think its sadly not.
The smaller companies interest me a lot so this series is such a sick idea! Looking forwards to more!
HEY! Shoutout for the awesome idea for the giveaways! Makes it much more sustainable for me to do and I like the levels of stakes!!! :)
Love the self talk on hole 2, you got it
I love Gateway. Besides manufacturing great discs they do an awesome job setting up courses in our area. Other great discs that Gateway makes that weren't reviewed: Voodoo (a great straight putter like the wizard with out the bead), G1 (a great distance driver that intermediate players can throw), The Assassin (Stokely bags it), Demon (overstable Mid that laughs @ the wind) & lastly the Mystic (understable mid that glides further than the numbers and great for hyzer flips).
Yezzir! They’ve done 2 at my local course and it’s amazing!
I believe the "Magnet" you referred to in the beginning was a "Magic" in Lunar plastic. My favorites from Gateway are the Prophecy and Element (mids) with the Wizard and Magic as favorite putters/approach. Almost my entire glow bag is Gateway because of availability of discs, prices, and being made in the USA.
he addresses it later in the video
For this type of video series, you should play the course with your normal bag first so that there's a benchmark to compare a whole new bag to
Devil hawk is amazing. I just picked up a super glow of it and it’s my putting putter now! Great disc
The Magnet is a putter by Discraft. One of the oldest and most underrated putters on the market.
Guessing it’s a magic?
@@lfish21. he confirms this at @11:15
@@JacobPorterLadder I saw this comment before I got this far into the video.
Been waiting for this one. Stoked to see what you think... after watching still very stoked. I think this the first time I've seen a video featuring the Lunar plastic (your magic) and I've really wanted to try it out. I like gateway's 4S (super stupid silly soft) for cold weather and days when the putt feels shaky and it seems like the lunar is in the same ball park of floppiness. Thanks for giving Gateway some love. I'm one of the people who's been suggesting them for a while so I'll keep quiet about now. thanks as always for the solid content
Gateway definitely needs some love. They have a serious line up and many molds from other companies that are good
Love the content my dude!!! My friend is just switching to gateway so perfect timing on the vid. Let’s do a Bodanza battle next time you’re in the OKC area.
Gateway Slayer is my ace disc. It's the only disc I've ever aced with and it's happened multiple times. Probably not the most popular Gateway disc but it's my fave for sure. Every time I step on the box with it I feel like it's going in.
Love the j-cuts. Very underrated! Keep it up!
Love hearing the sound of freedom ringing in the background
Would love to see you in the Charlotte, NC area. We are lucky with the course selection here! Digging the content.
The first putter I bought was a magic in lunar plastic! I no longer putt with it but I love it for sticking sketchy approaches/longer soft bids
Love what you say at 8:01. The past is the past!
My putting putter is a Wizard that I bought in like 99 or 2000. I've tried a few different ones off and on over the years, but I always come back to that Wizard. It's well seasoned at this point.
I always liked Gateway. I started playing in about 2000. Back then Gateway was a bigger player in DG. It was probably Innova and Discraft the cleat top two but then it was probably DGA, Millennium, Lightning, and Gateway.
I think the Apache was one of the first drivers I threw back when I started. Great beginner disc.
Love gateway! I've been putting with wizards for years
Love my wizards
I'm glad you identified the Sandhill cranes correctly!
Gateway have 2 other putters - Voodoo & Warlock. Gateway has had a big putter fanbase for years. They haven't had any major players, other than Niko, through their stuff though (except mixed bags). The Voodoo has a smaller bead than the Warlock and they have various stiffness of plastics so if you like the feel of the rim, but want harder or softer plastic, they have you covered.
The Warlock has no bead, it's basically a beadless Aviar clone. The Wizard has a bead, the Voodoo has a microbead, and the Magic is beadless and has a profile similar to a PA4. All 4 are classic putters. I like them in S or SS plastic, depending on tackiness.
@@eoghana315 Thank you! I meant smaller bead that the Wizard :) I appreciate you correcting me and for the additional info about the putters.
Magic is another Putter from Gateway. Very comfortable understable 2 speed putter.
I love this video concept and can't wait to see you try some other small brands!
If you're looking for suggestions, I'd love to see you try some Viking plastic. You can get a full lineup of their discs in a premium plastic pack for $80-$100 which I think is awesome value. They're not very well known though, especially in the US!
The wizard is super deep, your pure is very shallow. That's probably your issue. I put with an Innova Colt, which is also very shallow. I bought a bunch of Wizards because I wanted to like them, but like you, I think they're a little too deep for me. No worries, I throw plenty of other Gateway plastic. My favorite molds of theirs are the demon and the speed demon. Definitely give them a shot if you can.
Great new series!! Was excited for this one 👀🔥
I'm currently putting with the Magic in Lunar plastic, soft and amazing grippy feel without being too soft to not have structure itself to the disc. Loves grabbing those chains! (only thing I would like to be better is that the disc tends to wear out of it's perfectly "flat" structure from a lot of use)
Chief and chief OS are great. Kinda like the Tomb from infinite that I bag and love.
I love the wizard it's been in my bag for almost 2 years now
I've been putting with the hemp blend Devil Hawk and I love how grippy/rubbery it feels. Even when wet I get the grip I need to throw normally
I think you'll end up liking the Journey, fairly straight under stable distance driver, and if you want overstable, try the Spirit.
What a park job on hole two 👀
The SPEAR is so money!!!!
Great video!! Try legacy next!
Then the bird from the long pad 🔥
This drives me crazy lol. If you like putting with straight glidey putters then you should have 100% been putting with the magic. Great putter
You shouldn’t be disappointed in the 360 throw. You were in the tops of the palm trees. I think it would be pretty hard to push your same distance with that kind of height
Also I loved to see you talk about putting with the wizards compared to your Pure’s since I just came from wizards to Pure’s
I putt and throw wizards in different plastics (3S for putting and 2S for throwing) and they work really well for those straight to barely flippy or flexy approach shots because of their stability
I think the “magnet” is probably a magic?
Yeh I see the correction now 👍🏽
maybe to give the discs a fair chance you should do a field work session with them to get a few throws in before sentencing them to death in the round🤷♂
planning on doing that in the future. That was part of the vid I had talked about but cut it for time! Next New Kid In The Bag I didn't quite have time, but still worked out mostly alright, but for the future after I'm planning on having done field work with the discs before shooting
back in the day...14 years ago, I had a gateway wizard. It went in the water. the end.
🥲such a sad story!
Is this course near a gun range? Ngl I was a bit worried for a sec
Shaman, shaman, and shaman.
I could happily play a one-disc round with the Shaman
Someone please explain how he got that a -9 is 1000 rated. I just don't get it.
it's not, I think around the 30 sec mark I say the goals for the vid would be either 1000 rated or 9 down but I don't have any tournaments to reference so 9 down it is
@@BodanzaDiscGolf yeah I realized that I wrote it wrong, but you’ve still mentioned a certain amount of strokes for a certain rating before even playing the round on other videos. I guess I still have the same question. Love the vids btw.
@@aramdg gotcah, if you look up on pdga how ratings work, normally each stroke is worth about 10 rating points on a mostly par 3 course. If there are a lot of par 4s and par 5s then it will be worth typically around 7-9 points and if it's an easy all par 3 course, sometimes each stroke is worth up to 12-14 rating points. That's why if you know that a -8 lets say is 1000 rated, you'd be able to infer that if you shot -2, you're shooting around 940 rates since it's 6 strokes worse
@@BodanzaDiscGolf got it. Thanks!
magnet
Does first comment qualify for a giveaway disc??🤔🤔😂😂😂 (asking for a friend)
unfortunately not and youtube has 2 comments ahead of you too!
