Around 2004 I was a Dragoon on Valefor server by the name of Dragun. One of my buddies (Mavrick) hatched an idea and took me and my real life friend (Vercio) all the way from Jeuno to San d'Oria, to the jail inside of Chateau d'Oraguille before he would actually tell us the plan. He stopped and began to /tell us his plan saying "they can't hear us down here." His plan was a scam to make some serious gil. None of us were a high level (around the low 40's), had poor gear, and were struggling pretty hard in general. He noticed that gambling had taken off in Jeuno. People would wager high amounts of gil (sometimes in the 100,000's) based off of /random rolls. An intermediary would hold both player's bets and give the sum to the winner. Mavrick's plan was to have one of us be the intermediary for him on a mule character and if he lost the /random roll to have us "disconnect" from the server. My two friends thought they were geniuses. I didn't want to be involved because of the risk of being banned, and just being morally wrong. So Vercio made a new mule and both of them went to Jeuno to scam some folks. I went to Jeuno just to watch (sometimes some crowds formed anyways). The first victim was a level 75 Summoner. He comes up trading 500,000 gil to Vercio the "intermediary" while Mavrick pretended to do so as well (we didn't have 500,000 gil between us, not even close). To my dismay Mavrick actually won the roll! So they continued this scam on more than 10 different people and I'm being serious when I say they literally won every single roll. They made nearly 3 million gil but stopped shortly after. I seriously couldn't believe how well their gambling went. They both quickly spent the money on sought after equipment for their favorite jobs which they decided to main. I still think about how badly things could have gone, but somehow they worked out for the best. I miss those guys and this game so much, I'm sure we all have 100's of stories like these.

This story actually spans multiple realms so I apologize for length...
I started FFXI on my own as an eager 13 year old with the XBOX release. I fell in love with the world and building my character Dragota. I was a bit too young but I matured greatly and grew with the game and the friends I made.
One of my closest friends was named Khael. We became like brothers, inseparable as we two humes journeyed about Vanadiel. With my Paladin and his white mage there was no dungeon we would not crawl, sneak and invis our way through (often dying to an unknown NM that Khael refused to ignore).
We played for years together. He was there when I first hit lv75. He introduced me to dynamis and sky. He helped me through teenage troubles and was a true friend to me. We called each other by our real names and he even helped get my younger brother playing.
But then as I got older I had less time. And so did he. Life started to hit us both hard. We drifted from the game and lost contact after years of adventuring together daily.
Years later at 22 years old, my brother and I decided to get FF14: ARR. I used my same name and took up the sword and shield again. After working my way up with my younger brother, we entered the Duty Finder roulette and got The Lost City of Amdapor. We were met by two Lalafell, a male white mage and female bard. They were together, sharing a surname as me and my brother did.
I introduced myself with a "Hello" but before the healer buffed us, he slowly walked towards me and stared. I asked if he was ready and he simply said.
"Dragota. I knew an adventurer with that name once. A good friend. The best. But that was a long time ago. In a different world. Might that be...you?"
And as I stared at this Lalafell with an unfamiliar name, there was something that told me. Something in the way he said it.
    I said "...Khael...?"
    "My brother. :)" he replied.
PS He transferred servers to mine and we are talking once again. My little brother now grown was reintroduced to a childhood friend and mentor. And that other lalafell? His fiancé. it was a beautiful moment. The chances of it happening...only in FF.
    ~ Best wishes H4G,
    Dragota (Bismarck)

This is a great story. I ran into a similar situation recently. I played 11 since the PS2 Release and made many friends. One of my fondest friends was Galatea whom I was in an end game LS with and did so many adventures with. We played the game together for almost 13 years until finally I called it quits and left the game due to IRL. Fast forward to THIS year, I decided to pick up my character and go back to 11 with some more time I have. I am on a different server(Servers merged), a new name and no one to call a friend. I shouted for some help for a NM and a guy invited me to his party to help me. I joined and met up with his party and didn't even take notice of the people already in the party. As soon as we gathered together, I see a familiar name, Galateaa with an extra a. Same race, playing THF(he always played Thief) and I asked "Hey Gala, is your name Bob Smith(Fake name)". I knew his IRL name and he was asking how I knew his name. I was floored at how I found him again and told him who I was and we are still playing together 10 months later.

My story is about my acquisition of the once legendary, now defunct, staple of any serious PLD, the Joy Toy(Joyeuse). Now I'd always had a bit of tunnel vision when it came to leveling, I got PLD to 75 and stuck with it. This meant that when the time came to start gearing for my first endgame LS I didn't have a lot of options that didn't involve the benevolence of friends. Luckily I had a few awesome ones in my ls, two of whom were irl friends who put way more time into the game than I could. I definitely knew where I wanted to start however, that shiny blue and gold TP booster extraordinaire, and I knew where to find it. What I didn't know was how perpetually camped it was and how annoying it's lottery spawn could be. I was determined though, and so every day for four weeks I went down to Sea Serpents Grotto and farmed sea monks until that bastard Charybdis would spawn, at which point I'd blow up my LS for a NIN or THF and a RDM or WHM to come do the actual heavy lifting. 9 times out of 10 the only response I'd get would be an "omw" from my rl friend we'll call Drakeion, a 75 THF and one with even more persistence that me.(dude seriously farmed a Rain Hat just 'cuz) Well this routine just kept going, me camping tod and farming for spawn, Drake showing up to tank and no god damn healer showing up to support, some jerk better prepared swooping in and ganking the kill, rinse repeat, until one day...
Drake and I are chilling, waiting for a healer to come help us and, of course, no one's around. Taru NIN's been doing the same for a while when suddenly his RDM shows up. I /sigh and get ready to record the next TOD for tomorrow and Drake and i shoot the breeze as we watch this NIN whittle down Chary to 5%. Then, it happens. Maelstrom, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM! Nin drops. Chary goes straight for rdm. Rdm starts trying to buff up to no avail and drops seconds later, raises and immediately drops again. I've been so distracted watching them choke that I hadn't noticed Drake had already moved behind Chary, still at 5%hp. and mugged him the LITERAL SECOND he went unclaimed! I shit you not, his name plate never even went yellow, just from straight purple to red instantly. I PANIC! Instinct kicks in and I start throwing every enmity too I have at this thing, forgetting who I'm fighting. Flash, Provoke, Sentinel, Rampart, Shield Bash, Invincible, I throw them all out in a desperate attempt to not die after the initial flash pulled hate off my much more agile friend. Now I'm down to 10% and expecting my Invincible to wear off any second or for him to pull a Maelstrom when I see "Drakeion uses Dancing Edge"... Chary's down... Joytoy drops... I cast lot... 12. At this point I should mention that Drake's other main was RDM so... seconds pass like hours until I finally see him pass and what was at the time the greatest non-legendary weapon for a PLD lands in my inventory, all because of a fluke capitalized on by a selfless friend.

I was there at the beginning...the very beginning of Vana'diel...Unfortunately though i was too young to remember those years...but what i can remember of my home (Vana'diel) was this...Awesome people everywhere you looked, every single auction had hundreds of people in an almost perfect line,people...not trust npcs running around in the citys or zones,i remember outside of jeuno there were people with their bazaars just...sitting there...in hopes to see this again i went on nasomi to look in that spot (three times)...but noone...i remember valkurm dunes having around 50-150 people just partying and having fun....i remember the first character i ever played (Tarutaru Redmage),i remember doing the job quests for the first time,i remember making my first character,i remember getting my first chocobo license,i remember the reason i started playing Final Fantasy 11,and i remember the most amazing people EVER who introduced me to this game...and these are people and things i will always love...and NEVER Forget!💘

I played for months while a friend who I worked with was saving up for a pc to play with. He was super excited and knew so much about the game before even making a character. About a week before he was ready to buy the game, he was ar my place and wanted to camp leaping lizzy, so he did on my character while I kicked back with some beers and watched. He managed to get the claim and the boots for me which was a glorious moment. I was probably about 0/7 on those boots before that. He then got the game and proceeded to go 0/32 on the boots! Poor guy. I would go into work every day to hear about his fails. One that stuck out was where he was camping it for over an hour when it popped but he was far. He ended seeing the guy slowly dismount, slowly take out his weapon and kill it. My poor friend went 1/1 for me and then gave up after claiming it 32+ times on his own character.

Thank you so much for continuing to put out content about one of the greatest games of all time. I believe I spent a full year of my life wrapped up in this deep world! --- My story, I unlocked corsair immediately when the Treasure came out and loved and lived for the job. After taking Rdm (which I had the Bradly guide...which said Rdm/mnk was a good idea...it wasn't...) into ballista, I decided to give cor a try in the PVP matches. Instantly fell in love with what it could do. Yes, I would fall asleep and wake up 15 mins before ballista matches... and if you had ever seen a double Earth Shot blast a /nin down as they hit sprint with 20% Hp...but only their lifeless body slides across the grass...you'd be playing just as much as I did too. I soon took Sch into PVP but nothing was as fun as Cor. Quickly made a name for myself...and a enemy. There was a BLU who quickly decided to rehash the war between the cors and blus that destroyed my homeland many years ago. We would often end up on opposing teams and just gun for each other constantly. Eventually when PS2 support ended, I never returned but I always remember those nights of waking up at 3am , logging in and seeing that damn blu waiting on me. I miss the PVP of 11 as XIV just doesnt do it for me. I still want to make a Corsair cosplay (as I have a Sch Savants Attire one) just because Corsair and hexagun meant so much to me! - - Olairik (Bismarck) ---people called me "Ola" all the time >.>

Just found your channel so I'm a little late too this I guess but I thought you'd get a laugh out of my favorite ff11 memory, most people do after all. Me, my wife, and my brother, along with a few of our friends were all partying in dunes at the oasis. We were drawing crabs, flies, whatever we could find but making sure to avoid the linking leeches. Things were going great for awhile when all of a sudden I see my wife's hp drop to half then to 0 in the blink of an eye, we were fighting something at the time and I was holding hate , so I was very confused as to what happened. Before I could do anything tho I see everyone including myself start to drop and before I know it everyone is dead... Killed by an army of leeches. We couldn't figure out what happened so we went through our combat log and discovered my wife (Our whm) had healed a leech.. It aggroed all of them and we died in literal seconds. We didn't even know you could heal mobs and still warn her to NOT heal the mobs whenever we party in any game, leeches are also her favorite mobs on 11 because of this lol

I originally played for 6+years on the Bahamut server as a M Tarutaru. My linkshell eventually disbanded and I eventually became burnt out with the daily grind. But lately the nostalgia bug has caught me and I picked back up the game and decided to start fresh. I created a F Hume on Lakshmi (my two little girls helped me create my new character and are the inspiration behind my characters name) I started out in Bastok and created a Thf hoping while leveling I might get a chance at “THE BOOTS”. I head over to the spawn location and he was just sitting there waiting for me. I killed him as a level 9 thf with some help with a trust, unfortunately the boots didn’t drop. I decided to stick around and level off the lizards in the area. In about 20 minutes he was back up. Killed him as a level 12 with no treasure hunter and got the drop! It has reminded me of why I have fell in love with ffxi the MMO of my childhood and I am ecstatic that I now I can share that with my children.

Love these stories, they literally have me rotflmao cuz I can relate. I've been playing since 2007... Cuz my 1st hubby started to play, found a gf and left me for her, so I divorced him (Vegas, baby, it was FAST) He tried to come back but it didn't work out.
But I decided I was going to learn this game that cost me my marriage and be annoying by landing on the same server. It worked, drove em crazy, he barely maxed 5 jobs and I level capped long before he did.
And I met my 2nd husband on my 2nd server, who I'm still with after 12 years.
Funny stories, I have tons, like going into Abby and ending up running the party for 3 days, taking catnaps as one of us dual boxed.
The funniest thing I ever saw was the end of a last minute Abysmal fight in West Saburat that guild leader had us both come as Whm/Blm. We had two full alliances, tons of melee on the NM, with all us healers and nukers in a semi circle as normal.
The fight was going great, I was barely straining my Elvaan MP, the NM was going down and you see the message "Xxxx cast Doom". Most melee had this filtered out but not us mages.... We all froze, I wonder for a split sec, was I too close? The NM drops, there was a pause and all at once every single melee drops to the ground. The visual was so funny I started laughing almost hysterically. So much cursing and laughter filled the channel it was even funnier.
But we all had to hustle and get people up for lotting. I laughed every time I pictured them going, glad they didn't ask me to come as my MNK or DNC.

During early Treasures of Aht Urhgan era myself and a handful of irl friends were in a fairly high-end linkshell on Asura's server; we did HNMs, Sky, and a little bit of Jailers. Though we didn't know when joining was our leader, Napoleon, had a bit of notoriety about him. Mostly rumors that he "sold" sky to gil sellers, but we ignored that as people on the internet being petty.
Regardless of rumors Napo had a well earned reputation of being an ass, though he did know how to run a successful LS.
This all came to a screeching halt one night when he pops on to make an excuse to the LS about "his girlfriend stealing his child" so he wasn't going to be on for a while.
I immediately called B.S. on that, and not 4 seconds later me and all of my friends are kicked from the LS with no warning, or fanfare.
We learned later that what had actually happened is he had sold the LS bank & his own character and that was his sap story to keep objections to a mild roar.
Anyways, having learned what it took to lead a LS my friend Neoyukio & I made a new LS named "What?", we positioned ourselves as easy-going/end-game. Primarily we did Sky & Limbus and we had such a good time forming friendships that still exist to this day, and that's what the story is actually about.
'What-Limbus' was mostly my baby, while Neoyukio took care of 'What-Sky'.
For Limbus we had enough core players the we could split up to do 2-3 Apollyon or Temenos zones a night for more coins & chip farming for Ultima/Omega pieces.
We had a dedicated squadron of BLM & with a PUP that would regularly make the BLMs green with envy. They would run extra zones that could be time-nuked easily for additional ancient beastcoin currency that we all wanted. Pretty sweet all things considered.
But there was one particular player in our core group.
    This player was a PLD.
    A PLD named Zekky.
A PLD named Zekky who would find a way to aggro a shark on the way to Limbus runs, every time, without fail.
This trend lead to us lovingly referring to him as "Zekky the shark slayer!". We would often rib him during the big bosses when he needed to swap out for our second main tank with stuff like "just pretend its a really big shark Zek!" so on and so on. He was a great tank, knew how to handle himself and didn't worry about blowing Invincible if he thought it would save the run. And best of all, he was really easy going. Players like Zekky are one in a million.
We had several months of success in both Sky & Limbus, but scheduling issues cropped up (as they always do), so we all agreed to go our separate ways on good terms with smiles, memories, and lots of loot in hand!
Years go by my irl friends & I start dropping off of FF11, be it for FF14, college, career, or other life stuff ya know? But the tale of the shark slayer isn't quite over yet, though our next meeting with Zekky could only be called serendipitous.
My friend Neoyukio had secured a job after college which let him travel to South Korea for job trainings, which he knew was going to be fun, but didn't expect what happened next. Apparently Neo found Zek via a Facebook ping saying "friends in your area". I distinctly recall answering my phone in the middle of the night to hear Neo smugly announce he was going to meet someone for drinks and that I would never guess who it was. And he was right, but when he said it was Zekky I immediately replied "the shark slayer?", sure enough!
Zekky had been busy after his FF11 day, he joined the U.S. Army, found love & got married, and was stationed with his wife in South Korea just in time to high-five his old LS leader.
My only regret was not being able to travel at that time, I would have loved to reminisce with the people that made FF11 such an enjoyable experience.
Though my wish may be coming true to some degree, we are trying to get as many of the old players to come to next year's FF14 fan festival for a big 'What' blowout party! :)

I was also in one of Napoleon's linkshells during CoP for a bit, Shiekahz or something like that. I didn't read forums or know why he had such a bad rep, but I was able to do a linkshell run of Divine Might with them, that fight against the 5 ark angels i think, so I was able to get my earring item while being in the shell. Then one night after a month or so he decided he was going to stop playing and everyone ended up leaving the linkshell. Found out after why so many people didn't care for him, because of the "gil selling" and just being an ass in general. Also, since you were on Asura, did you ever see Smokeone run into Jeuno and do his yell of "Make way for Smokeone, the greatest paladin ever!"? That was back in the 04-07 range, I believe, and it was fairly common for him to run into a zone yelling that. Could sense the collective hand to forehead of other players whenever he zoned in. Good times though.

The guy getting his armor stolen hit home to me. It was sorta how I started FFXI. I was 13 and this guy became my best friend in RuneScape. He helped me do every quest, showed me where to mine, etc. One day he said, "Hey, I can upgrade all your armor if you want" and I was like "For free!? How?" and he replied "I have high level crafting" and so I handed him all of my armor. Then his character started to run away from me, and I followed until he ran into a zone I couldn't access. After a moment of ignoring me he said, "Thanks for the armor" And I think I cried, then quit RuneScape and after about a year started FFXI.

My first trip to Jeuno was with my buddy Ron he was a human warrior and I was a a mithra whm he was 20 and I was 25 we were lost in jugner forest when a AF Elvaan red mage going by on a chocobo stopped and hopped off to nuke a couple tigers that had aggroed us, we cheered him on as he massacred them! His name was Jashin! He asked what we were doing and we replied enthusiasticly, "Going to Jeuno we want to ride chocobos!!!!" We loved riding them in the other ff games and really wanted to in this one as well! He tipped his hat and smiled saying "Well its your lucky day my feline feministic beauty and masculine leather strapped lad, Jashin is here to giude you to said destination!" We both laughed but enjoyed his theatrics as he guided us through the rest of jugner forest pointing out other passages and dangers located in the forest, I remember gawking at the hill sides of Batallia Downs when we first entered thinking this game is the best, still is to me, he guided us through the hill sides packed with tigers and orcs eventually getting us to the entrance to jeuno. When we arrived we waved good bye saying "Tread carefully my friends, if you ever need me again just call!" He teleported away and me and ron gulped and walked into jeuno!

I'll never forget all the great memories I have from this game. My favorite memory is camping Lord of Onzozo with Shinuri and Gray. Skipped Dyna one day and we got the kraken club to drop first kill continue to camp it for the rest of the week after that since we were the only ppl with the ToD of it and 7 days later we couldn't camp it anymore so I left my character there to try and get the ToD and I woke up with LoO right in front of me I quickly got my buddy's there and we killed it and got a 2nd club to drop was some amazing times there about a month later we got our 3rd one and never went back there. I haven't heard from Shinuri or Gray in years but if you happen to see this I miss playing with you guys and I just started playing again a year ago but I have moved to Asura still playing as Runouni

I got full Corsair relic set from Dynamis...without having Corsair unlocked. Needless to say I leveled Corsair to 75 just to wear the set, had maybe 3 rolls and pretty terrible gear, but at least I got to look like a sexy blue pirate xD

~Anyways, I've been playing on & off since 2006, and for some reason my LS kept getting more and more people from my country in it(Norway). None of us knew each other prior to joining the LS either. So of course, we ended having an LS-meeting in RL. There were lots of laughter, pizza & planning of future ls-events. This was only the first of many many meetings

I would stand at the gates outside literally waiting for beginners to run bye trying zone b.c they argo’d an orc.. or a skeleton at night. Fun times..

I played beta and was the first character to get to 50 and full White armor. Had to pay some Bastok players to spend their city points to get the final pieces. I was Warrior so the armor didn't do much for dps, so had to go back to lvl 40 gear for parties :P

Second, shorter story. Me, 17WAR/6THF(was still a noob). My friend, Dizzyness, 75WHM/37BLM, riding the boats back and forth so he can show me the pirates. Sure enough, Blackbeard decides to spawn and I get ballsy. I tell him "I can take him!" at which point he laughs and says he'll give me 10k if I don't get one-shotted. Challenge accepted! I bolt down and ATTACK BB IN HIS FACE! 1 damage. Now, I may have gotten turned into a mushy Elvaan paste seconds later but it came from 2 hits from Blackbeard as well as 2 hits from skelly links so I think I did alright and got me 10k in the process :D Granted, this was during the RMT wars so that was pocket change but still!...

We're _(at present time)_ nearing the end of the year, so I suppose I'll share a "Christmas" story, of sorts.
I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth; not having _(any interesting in)_ the jobs nor gear, to go solo a BCNM for 'phat loot' and even if I were to encounter a rare instance of something I could beat, I would of course get its "lunch money" and a craft item + crystal, at best. My beloved really wanted one of those crafted "Manteel" body pieces, but they were a whopping 3mil gil and as the statement above would imply, I'd be the kind of guy to run around with an average of 100k, to an absolute max. of 1mil gil, on a VERY good day; There was NO WAY I was going to raise enough money, for that gear piece, over the next couple of weeks, before Christmas, or rather, the week before, where my beloved would leave for a whole week, to spend time with relatives, over the holidays, so my time would be even shorter, if I wanted to surprise her with this gear piece.
I realized, I may not have the fitting abilities in GAME to acquire this piece, but... I may be able to, OUTSIDE of the game, through ART. Someone, moderately well-known within the FFXI communities, was always seeking out art of his FFXI character and had expressed he was particularly interested in art, from me, for whatever reason, but I had declined on multiple previous occasions. But now, I figured it would be a nice time to swing a deal with the guy! Simply put, _"I'll draw anything for you, if you give me one of those Manteel body pieces"._
The guy, being on a different server, paid to server-hop to mine, in order to give me what I had asked.
Now, with a valuable Christmas present in hand, secretly, I went along my business, making what little Gil I could, by my own methods; The Christmas event was active, where you smash crates to obtain a Key Item, which you exchange for a random prize. Which was food items, that could be vended off for either 500gil+ or 1000gil+ to an NPC shop. All I had to do, was run out Windy gates, smash some crates and run back in for 500~1000gil per trip! (quick math! 100 trips = 50k~100k!!) EASY!
I had selected THF, to utilize *Flee* to make my trips even faster and all was going well! Suddely, while zoning into East Sarutabaruta and running forward to where the crates were, I disconnect and go to log-in screen. I think it was just a fluke and log back in, to make what-little Gil I could before Christmas, despite already having my precious gift ready in hand. However, I find myself not in East Sarutabaruta, but something that looks like the Horutoto Ruins. "Lol! Did I D/C and glitch into this zone?!" I thought, but I quickly learned I was in the dreaded "M.Gaol", 'GM Jail'. But I don't freak out and calmly contact a GM. The GM shows up and I think all is about to be settled as a quick misunderstanding, hereafter I'd be sent on my merry way, but the GM begins to recite a log of recorded violations; Speed Hacking and how the servers "speed-hacking auto-ban" function had flagged up enough times, to trigger my automatic, albeit temporary ban from the game. One whole week, which would have me allowed to return to the game, at minimum, by the 26th December! Christmas would be over. I would NOT be able to hand over my present to my beloved, moments before she was leaving to spend time with relatives... I started to freak out. I filed appeals after appeals. Complaint after complaint, but the "GM/staff" were giving me this whole, stuck-up, better-knowing attitude, of _"No! You are a filthy law-breaker, because _*_we_*_ say you are!!"_
Worst feeling ever. Unable to fulfill my own little Christmas present hand-over, seeing my beloved overjoyed, moments before leaving... but, salt in the wound of being permanently marked (in GM logs) as a hacker/cheater, whilst now living the risk of having my account permanently banned, if the faulty auto-ban detection flagged up my account again...
This is 11 years ago now, but I still have a seething hatred for that GM, who, in a sense, "Stole Christmas" for me, back then.
Going through screenshots, I had 2 days prior to this, 'angered' a group of Level Sync. abusers in the Korroloka Tunnel, doing that trick where a high-level player mob trains EVERYTHING to one spot of the map, where level-sync'd players will use SMN 2Hr ability to insta-kill everything and gain STUPID amounts of EXP, through those Manuals. _(Wished the entire lot would get LM-11/14'd for abusing the system)_
I needed the Slime's for their oil, to craft stuff. Since ToS states that no character is allowed to CLAIM multiple mobs and all "unclaimed" mobs are fair game, I picked off the Slime's, one by one with Ranged attacks on THF, because nothing was happening... I'm assuming the leveling group were out, having their 2Hr reset by COR's, before returning to nuke the mobs anyway.
However, the group running the activity, were NOT pleased with my meddling.
I immediately got tells from one of the guys, saying _"lol bad idea"._ I was curious as to what absurd 'threats' this guy was likely going to dish out and I inquire. _"Why's that?",_ to which the guy replies _"I'll show you."_ but nothing in particular happened... I'm assuming one of the server GMs was his bosom-buddies and he was calling out to have me banned, for claiming un-claimed targets or something.
I mean, 2 days later, I'm banned for a week, for using THF ability Flee, on the allegation I was Speed Hacking.
Always wondered if the ban was something "personal", because I never broke any rules and always considered myself a "by the book" type of law-obedient player. Pathetic how some people will use their authoritarian status to punish people for their own personal benefit, granted that was even the case. :( Damage was done, regardless.
My only comfort, was that my beloved DID eventually get her present, somewhere between Christmas and New Years, so, eh...

I notice a tendency, that when people speak of FF14, they speak of the expansions as individual games, giving them different review scores. However FF11 had a bunch of expansions as well, which also introduced new storylines, jobs, areas, however people tend to lump everything together, giving the implication that FF11 hadn't really changed much over the course of its still ongoing run.
I did play 11 back in the day, and I certainly feel differently about the expansions, but at the same time, I cannot say that things felt that different to me as they do with 14 (ignoring 1.0 or even 2.0). It feels like an evolving and changing game, while FF11 despite the many changes still feels like the same game when I started, at least at it's core
Do you have any thoughts on that?

couple of stories for you but ill make them quick...
1: started out as a taru blm but before i even got to the dunes i got SO sick and tired of dieing just because something looked at me.... so i became a galka war, brd, pld
2: back when japanese and english speaking people would be in the same LS i remember a gathering in Bastok market place with everyone on a lvl 1 job and no gear on with the ls alchemist passing out a gift bottle to everyone. we made such a spectacle just sitting there and chatting it started to look like jeuno with even strangers gathering around. I dont remember the speech our LS leader /shouted but it was along the lines of some cult mass suicide message and we all downed our poisons and created a carpet of corpses near the fountain and i couldnt stop laughing for a good hour. directly following we did a race to jeuno on foot with the same lvl 1 jobs with 100k gil to the winner (i didnt make it passed pashow)
    hope you enjoyed!

one of the things that changed my life in game , was me a friend of mine , and another person that would hang out with us were doing hume rse gear. mean while all of the sudden the peakcock charm nm popped and we beat rmt's to the spawn. they were waiting and waiting for us to die but some how we were able to beat it and we had gotten the drop. we had split the prize which was a few million each which helped me buy so many spells i would have never been able to afford at the time. i did end up paying it forward though , by giving ppl free help and teleports.
