Yes, you can indeed use the InterCity FlexiPass for the tours and routes you've listed. The FlexiPass works on a hours-based system, allowing you to travel to multiple destinations across New Zealand on the InterCity bus network, which covers both the North and South Islands extensively. You should of course contact InterCity directly as your official sources for all your questions. Here’s how it works: The FlexiPass lets you manage your travel itinerary by booking bus trips based on the total hours of travel you've purchased. You can stop at cities along the way and hop back on another bus to continue your journey. You need to book each leg of your journey in advance, which you can easily do online. This ensures you have a reserved seat for each segment of your trip. Some routes may offer scenic stops or allow for transfers, enhancing your travel experience. For the detailed routes you've mentioned, including Auckland to Invercargill, the FlexiPass should cover all these provided they fall within the hours you've purchased. It’s an economical and flexible option for extensive travel throughout New Zealand, perfect for exploring at your own pace. For more tips on traveling with an InterCity FlexiPass and personalized travel advice, consider checking out our Patreon at www.patreon.com/nzpocketguide . Awesome video! Very informative. I have a few questions. I did the math, and it looks like you could do the Stray Everywhere pass route using an 80 hour FlexiPass, which would be less than half the cost of a Stray Everywhere pass. Also, I read through the agenda of the Stary Everywhere pass, and it looks like all of the activities are able to be booked online or at a local hostel. Since you have to pay out of pocket for lodging and activities regardless of which bus you go with, I'm trying to evaluate if Stray is worth spending more than twice as much money. I know the Stray bus itself is more social than the InterCity bus, but with either bus you'll meet plenty of people at the hostels and at the paid activities you do during the day. To me it seems like the biggest reason to go with Stray would be the activities in-between each stop that are exclusive to Stray. Do you know what activities there are and how frequently they occur between stops?
Thanks Chloe! How exciting that you're coming to NZ! You'll have a blast :) They are both great options. It just depends on what kind of experience you are looking for. We covered a lot in the video but some information on our website might help you make a decision -> www.backpackerguide.nz/what-is-the-difference-between-hop-on-hop-off-and-national-coach/
Those articles are really helpful! Is it true that taking the busses are cheaper over renting a car? Also, do you have a video about free wifi situation in NZ? Is it widely available/good signal, etc? Thanks!
Yes buses are significantly cheaper than car rental for most itineraries :) We do not have a video about WiFi just yet (but this should come out soon) in the meantime we have an article about it, check this out -> www.backpackerguide.nz/get-internet-wifi-new-zealand/ handy right?! ;)
My wife is a tourguide in NZ takes chinese tourists around NZ, you guys should meet me and her sometime :) Right now she's taking a group around south island... it's chinese new year right now.
Her first time around she loved Milford Sound but since she's been there a lot... she's sick of it. Same could be said for Queenstown since she's been there dozens of times and I think is sick of how touristy and overpriced everything is there. If I had to guess... I think she likes the Nelson region best. My sister and father live in Nelson, and we've been up to Motueka/Kaiteriteri and Abel Tasman National Park a few times... I think she likes it there the best.... and the weather there is usually good. She also seems to like the crayfish and fishing boats at Kaikoura.
@@NZPocketGuide Yes, in one week. I'm doing hitchhiking for 8 days with my friend in Northland and then 24 days probably hop on hop off with stray. Should I book the bus this evening in Sydney or when I get to Auckland?
@@NZPocketGuide thanks. I looked it up and I'll actually get it cheaper with the travel agency I went to. I'll get everything but Milford sound and northland for 770$ (AUD)
Does ever the intercity bus get full on Queenstown to Christchurch ? Since we will be using the flexipass and we're not sure if seats will be available for us.

Hey Kiran, you will need to book it in advance on their website :)
Ok ok... Seems like they don't accept ready cash right?
No they do not.
Thank you, and one more question, which amongst these is the cheapest mode (airport shuttle service /intercity bus service)
To go to Rotorua your best options are Intercity and Skip Bus

That makes total sense, this is why we changed the intro quite a few months ago. This video is pretty old, things have changed a lot since then ;)
