Love the babies! You need a net bag to carry your morels. That way when you carry them around to collect their spores will fall back to earth so you have future shrooms. 💕🍄

Be very Thankful it was a nasty storm, by the time it got to Indiana and Ohio it was deadly. Daniel dont apologize for thinning out the predators, I live in Oklahoma and there are coyote hunts around our area this spring. People that live in Cities dont understand if you dont do wildlife management all these predators will be showing up in the big Cities, looking for food.

You've probably seen the documentary about the guy who raises a brood of wild turkeys and the communion with wildlife that opens up when the other forest animals see him as a mama turkey and not a human. If you haven't seen it, it's available on UA-cam and I think you'd love it given how much you love nature. It's titled something like My Life as a Turkey.

I have two ideas for you to try with the baby goat. The easiest would be to get some type of strap, or harness, to lift the udder up and forward. See if the baby will nurse then.
The second would be to build a platform for the mother to stand on, in a caged-in area (might be difficult to get the mother to cooperate). The baby would be on the ground, below the platform, where she can more easily find the udder.

    • @HensOnly

Or as Daniel is milking mom. He could save the milk and then give a bottle. But with Mom's milk opposed to powder. And though Daniel doesn't want to bottle the baby. More than likely he will have too. Mom might not be up to all those suggestions you mention...though good ideas and thinking outside the box.
My well trained dogs, don't tolerate much. Can't see a goat cooperating, but you never know, until you try.

    • @roguewolf7053

Building a simple low “milking” stand for the mom to stand on to eat a little grain while baby nurses 2-3 times a day…especially right before dark particularly if it’s going to be cool…would be the easiest option. Giving the baby access to grain & hay would be a good idea since it will likely HAVE to wean off earlier than normal since the taller the baby gets the more difficulty it will have nursing.
-The other option would be to try & hybrid feed with a bottle of mom’s milk 2-3 times a day with the baby still nursing during the rest of the day. But that runs the risk of the baby refusing to nurse & wanting solely the bottle. But within a couple weeks switching to bottle feeding may be the only option with the baby growing in size & mom’s bag being so low.
I absolutely would NOT breed that mama goat again. Which is truly a shame as she is clearly such a great, calm, patient mama!😕 Maybe keep her around to help mother any future bottle babies y’all have.

Just a tip so it don’t happen to your other goats and they can have babies longer and not have that problem- That’s called blown teats it’s from being so full and not getting relieved. 90% of the time it happens when the mama is drying up after having babies the mama has to be relieved at least once a day so that doesn’t happen so that she can slowly dry up.
It doesn’t happen to every single goat. It just depends on how full that goats utter gets.

    • @HensOnly
      @HensOnly 3 місяці тому +2

I was told it could be genetic as well. My Nubians sometimes would have big udders but nothing like hers. I had one that refuses to dry up no matter what we did to her, she still produced milk after a year and half.

Our cats would stalk them, but were frightened by the size. They'd jump on the wood pile and stone wall, and just hang out there. was quite a sight. Those morels looked yummy in the pan! Poor Spot. She's such an excellent looking milk goat. She actually looks like she has perfect udders for a portable milk machine that sits on top of a steel milk collection bucket. Even if just once a day, please hand strip dry both sides to best ensure fresh milk continues and mastitis stays far away. You would be surprised how much milk you can collect for the family and/or other farm animals from just one milking a day and still keeping singles on good milk goats. You can even freeze some for future bottle babies.

We get crazy hail up here in the ChiTown area all the time. Once a person makes a claim for hail/storm damage, either to their car or their home, the insurance compamy will at first pay out. However, once the company pays for that first storm damage, they'll drop you like a hot potato. Not just that: your home and your vehicles will also be blacklisted by every insurance company in your area (and probably nationwide as well) -- so, essentially, you'll never be able to purchase property/casualty insurance ever again. (Side note: Insurance companies share their information, so don't be surprised if you find yourself unable to purchase health insurance either...)

Daniel , when I was younger and was on a lease in Louisiana when the property owner done control burners we alway saw more deer and turkeys. The conclusion we came to is that with the taller grass and underbrush gone they felt somewhat safer, because it was harder for predators to ambush them. We also use to trap a lot and to predator hunts, and plant year round food plots to help grow our wildlife population. Wild hogs will also eat the turkey eggs and run off your deer. Congratulations on the conservation work you are doing. Hopefully your 3 kids and future grandchildren will continue the work you are doing and passing down, if so many generations will benefit from what you'll leave behind for future generations. Keep on being a good steward to the land.

The thunder was so loud on Dejays video and it shook me up from the years I lived in OK. I was blessed to have tornadoes actually split and go around Broken Arrow where I lived.
You can see the baby wants to feed but you can see those low teets are throwing her off. I mean imagine what your beats would like like after 8 kids lol😂

Glad to see wild turkeys. Trapping and burning is paying dividends. God bless and keep up the good work on your property.

I got lucky with the weather too. I got rain but not the damaging hail and wind. My sister lost a 49 plus year old oak tree but luckily it hit a fence, not the house. (Houston & Angleton, TX.)

Brings back so many memories while growing up. Our family of 8 would head into the woods to hunt mushrooms.

The coyotes got all of my outside cats about 3 years ago and know we have a Bear problem that's been running around all of the neighborhood, and I live out in the country on my Grandpa's Farmland, all of my family live here
