@0:35 "...as a general rule, you never want to surprise a bear..." The same applies for me, I hate surprises of that kind. I hope the bears also take that into account.
In a panic, your performance can drop by half and you may start spraying before the bear is in range. I suggest carrying multiple cans or prepare what to do after you empty the can and the bear is finally in range.

Having tramped around Montana, I know when you hear a big bear snort at you from the bushes, you feel much better if you have a line of defense. These guys are fast, and easy to just injure and make madder if you think you are going to shoot a charging bear. But they cannot stand red pepper spray up their snouts and in their eyes. Some even slam on the brakes when they see the red can. Been sprayed before.
Bear likes to eat with salt an pepper, so spray it all over your body quickly if a bear attack

I live in Siberia, Transbaikalia, and forests are being cut down intensively here, which leads to a reduction in the habitat of bears, so cases of attacks by these animals on humans have become more and more frequent. we carry air horns and bear spray while bear trolling on our fat tire electric bikes, the .45 Long Colt loaded for bear is last resort. So far, no challenges. Pray I see a Sasquatch first.

There is a Video too, about two guys fishing and lot of bears stealing the catched fish and asking for more.They were so lucky to return safe home with their empty cans.

I might get me a can of that. I'm in truck driver training and one of the things they said we can use to protect us while in the truck is bear spray! Definitely looks like it'd be worth the buck!
@Brandon Buy it! You're safety is important and is better to be prepared than sorry. I bought one from Walmart online, coz it was cheaper than on Amazon for the same spray at the time of purchase. Any how, you won't regret buying it, I even sprayed inside the garbage can whenever raccoons messed with the garbage and so far it has deterred them, but I initially bought it for protection from humans or animals.
Get it. My dad was stabbed doing that stuff but luckily survived

Can these bear spray cannisters be safely stored like in a freezer?
I'd like to know if either cold storage or non-frozen cold storage could help store them safely. The reason I ask this is that people I know who have used these have had them leak and get stuff in their cars and trunks from the cannisters minute discharge rate over time after it had been sitting. It also seems that you have a higher chance of the cannister leaking in higher heat, so this adds to the idea maybe cold storage would work better? (But is it OK to freeze them or just keep them below 50 degrees?)
I hoped someone might have feedback on this.

The can itself has a warning on the bottom: "... Do not store above 120°F or below 32°F"

Great demonstration. Helps wilderness greenhorns on how to stay safe. In US, using bear spray for self defense on people and dogs is illegal, but people are doing it. Cop told me to ONLY use pepper spray on people and dogs, if you are attacked.
Why else would you be using it on people and dogs? Of course he’s going to say only use it when being attacked....

The wind concerns me. Have you ever or are there reported cases of spray back? I see that the propellant forces a powerful stream of spray but in windy conditions what are the chances of spray back especially not having time to reposition to a down wind location.
I have no concrete advice to give you other than when my step uncle sprayed it to test fire, it was windy and not a lot blew back at him but a faint amount got to him. He said it was mildly irritating but not enough to make him cry or hurt him
I have tested a few time. Almost guaranteed to come back at you if you stand still. I’ve had it at different levels. From mild to where it completely took me out of action. Even without wind.

Yes. That is the problem with bear spray. Even with no wind the cloud will eventually expand in your own direction in a matter of seconds. And it will suck big time. You can’t even open your eyes

Pepper spray is better because bear mace isn't as powerful as pepper spray still works just not as effective

Anyways, bear spray is just bigger and better pepper spray. Both use the same ingredients (capsaicin or related compounds). The biggest difference is that bear spray _is regulated by the EPA,_ which means you always know what's in the can and you always know that it's effective. This also means that concealable bear spray is impossible to find since EPA only allows large enough cans, but for home use this is fine.
Edit: It's possible to find pepper sprays stronger than bear spray, maybe that's what the dude was talking about. Either way do you research before buying anything you're gonna be trusting your life to
@@avocadoman6038 1% capsaicin in most bear sprays is less effective than the 2 or 3 % in small pepper sprays. But UDAP makes a 2 percent bear spray that no bear can withstand.
It’s 3 times as powerful, basically tear gas. If you spray it on a human, they’re going to immediately have an asthma attack and be blinded for 45 minutes. Very effective against hostile humans.

It can- to the effect that it permeates the air and causes respiratory effects however it wouldn't cause the effects on the eyes and the facial burning effects. That said - if someone has a gun and feels you are trying to disarm them - using pepper spray of any kind on them is grounds to shoot you dead.

I think that would depend on the personality of the bear. In most cases (from videos I've seen) you can just talk/ scold a bear and it will walk off.. a loud noise may just make it attack just to stop the noise.
I was in air force basic training and we had to do a gas mask training in a room with a minor pepper pellet released (no mist visible) and that was a horrific experience (and that was just a minor dose)
And put a portable electric bear fence around your campsite. There’s one out there weighing only 2.4 lbs and it’s really capable. Passive deterrence for a good night’s sleep.
In the case of Sea Bears you can just draw a circle in the sand around your tent to keep them at bay

Bought it for the dogs out here, people get their dogs to come on the road and threaten me and intimidate me. I was prepared yesterday, if that dog would had came on the road, i would had used it. One neighbor got his dog to attack me twice, first time, Animal control dropped the charges because I went outside in my own yard (to do exercises) which I always do. The second time the dog bit me much worse, the Animal control supervisor came out here asking me questions about a cousin. Then Tim Benoit said he could get access to the 911 phone call. Where did that 911 call go. But Everytime I go outside, these neighbors and the police pull something.

Seems to me very aggressive to spray red pepper into a bear's eyes - what if it's not on the attack? People will panic anyway. Can't they invent a deterrent which doesn't damage the animal's eyes? I remember seeing a video of a man in Alaska who demonstrated that if you stand firm with feet apart and hold up your arms with fingers outstretched, the bear will stop in its tracks. His demonstration worked.
Hi , i live in Alaska and faced bears sometimes while hiking, the technique of Standing your and make yourself big and scream is good against small black bears, HOWEVER if you try this against a big brown bear , grizzly ect.. they will Charge thinking you challenge them..
