I love that you A) refuse to give up on a dog, even when bitten, and B) admit that not every situation can or will be fixed in 10 minutes. People need to not be disheartened or discouraged when their dog takes a bit longer to learn... anything.

Great work! I wish I could be trained by you. This work is the only work in this life that interests me. Even though my dad was a dog handler in Vietnam hes not really a dog trainer. His techniques are more akin to tiger taming. I wish to know more so I study dog training every chance I get.

What are the signs that show the start of a dog claiming a space in different environments?

But, when you tried to get the muzzle on, he "was" wagging his tail. Clearly he's just very scared of what might happen to him next. Poor dog. Thank you for working with him.
People that abuse dogs or any innocent & helpless creature are monsters and should be dealt with accordingly...cowards!

Many people that get bitten by dogs will say that it was wagging it's tail before it attacked, so they thought it was friendly. You have to look at the body language of the whole dog, from nose to tail, the expression in their eyes and any tightness around the mouth.
I hope he can help this dog; it's a tough one!

Hello from Ireland. Love the way you are with this beautiful German Shepherd. Thank you for working with him and giving him a chance. German Shepherds are my breed, I lost my 4th one of old age in August and I’m now waiting on a rescue. To me they are an incredible dog. 🤗 Mind yourself. 😊

You're doing great. I like when he started to get more aggressive you realised and toned down what you expected him to do, instead of rising up to meet him and causing even more conflict.

You can definitely sense Shadow is that true dominant type, especially in his eyes. They almost look lost, like his souls been taken. I really hope he succeeds in his rehabilitation. How old is he btw? He looks really young but also old at the same time.

A touch of understatement, "urinating on someone ...is disrespectful". Also in human world I believe. Great to see someone working so hard to save a beautiful and broken animal...wishing you both well.

Hello Will, I've just recently discovered your UT chanel and try to learn as much as possible in order to teach my own dog how to behave. Thank you for all the information so far. I've seen three video's with Shadow but it is clear that you were not yet ready with that dog. I'm wondering how the story ends.

Urinating on someone is also seen as disrespectful in the human world in some cultures. Found that one out the hard way :(

Great video! It's sad when this happens to these animals. Just makes no sense. Why?
I just got a GSD (mix I'm sure) to train as my service dog. I don't know what im gonna do, as last night he bit me over a plastic bag he found. He's snapped at me two or three times over holding his collar. Half assed snaps, but any willingness to do that is a no go. Not only is he to be a service dog, but I have my sister in the home, and she's a stroke victim with dementia and mobility issues. It sucks. I like him, and would work him through it if it were just me. Looking for options at this point.

    Good stuff brother.
My last dog was an working line Giant Schnauzer ( sirrs pedigree had DDR on it and 10 generations of Berlin border patrol /police dogs) I got him at 8 weeks and knew all his genetics ( damn was 10 generations of Czech police dogs) we had our challenges for sure. Til he passed he would try and cock his leg on other men lol, but I knew every single muscle of his body language and always redirected him . His Obedience was incredibly flashy, when it wasn't supposed to be. His protection work was shew, not a sport dog like we intended to do. We still had so much fun training regularly tho, my fellow handlers nicknamed him "Mottsinator" due to his protection work. His name was Motomo, I called him Motts.
With this GSD is makes it super tough not having his breeding ancestry to look upon to help out with getting him back on track. One thing is for sure , once you train a dog like these , you learn a super ton about dogs , life and yourself. Sounds weird but. It's nice to see gentleman like you saving otherwise good dogs.

Have you ever done an "alpha roll" on a large dog? The biggest worry would be your size and the dog getting hurt! He may submit to you, but perhaps not others afterwards...

I have trained and worked with aggressive, abandoned and abused dogs for the past 30 years. Have you ever tried the technique of just sitting in a small four-by-four room with the dog loose and ignoring the dog until he comes to you for attention.

Keep up the good work especially with this difficult case.I have a rescue Bullterrier x who does not like strange men at all he has nipped a few people on the ankles and chased several people otherwise he is a lovely devoted and protective member of our family.I have been taking your training advice along with some other dog trainers I feel more confident when I walk my three dogs now it’s just that I have to be so careful with Brutus I have a muzzle to use whenever I am in a situation that could spell trouble I must say he is good with other dogs and he loves playing with them and he is not aggressive towards people he has come to know even men. Thanks so much for your help I am all the way in Cape Town South Africa but it’s good to know that there is help.🙏🐕

You mention that dominance is rare and then suggest that lack of leadership was among the reasons for bad behaviours! Doesn't dominance exist because the leadership is weak; and therefore the dog becomes dominant! It sounds like a contradiction! I am not sure if I sound argumentative here (I have autism) and sometimes can appear blunt! Genuinely interested!

    • @dillonchandler8929
      @dillonchandler8929 2 роки тому +1

I'm no expert. But I've watched a lot of these videos and cesar milan and others. And from my understanding. Dominance is when a dog actually challenges your commands. Like trying to move them off the couch or taking a toy, and they attack you. They are literally fighting you for Dominance. Most cases of aggression come from fear anxiety or lack of leadership as will said in the video. So in short, most dogs, if you take the lead will follow. A dominant dog will challenge your leadership
