Loving this game, so happy you're still playing some more! Here's a few tips and answers to your questions:
* The best way to earn gummies in early game, is to bring your Oobs to scan in the learnery (that trailer building you thought was a house). You should get 50 for each normal type and more for special ones - e.g. that clomper seed you got in that group dance battle was unusual, so scanning him should give you 100 gummies!
* Also, if you do a few of the mayor's missions, you'll unlock the booth thingy next to the seed store, which will have daily requests for various crops/materials in exchange for gummies.
* You can also buy gummies with wishes, but I would advise against it since wishes are more useful as you level up, in order to unlock more seeds, more oob types, faster running speed, more space in your bag etc. Also if you look at your menu, you can use the wishing well from anywhere in town, no need to go to the actual fountain every time.
* You might want to keep your wood and nurnies (the stuff you get from hitting rocks) for other missions and projects. Also keep some of your crops for cooking, and definitely keep the Oobsidion for now, since it's rare and used for building projects and upgrades. However you can def sell the sea shells and most forgeables you find around town, since they mostly renew every day.
* Try talking to the people in town every day to learn more and unlock new stuff to do - Every NPC that has a white dot over their head is a town-folk you still haven't talked to that day.
* As far as letting go of Oobs you don't want - later in the game you'll be able to release them into the wild, but for now since you don't have many you might want to keep them. The one you were annoyed at actually has some pretty good moves once you level him up, he was only not moving since he was stunned for 2 turns by the other team. I'm sure you'll pick up more on the card game and what moves are best to use as you play, so for now I wouldn't worry about it.. the first tier of Oobs aren't too hard to get anyway.
* These cans you find on the floor are recycled into fishing bait (you can fish mostly to find more speedy grows), if you want to find more about it try clicking the machine next to the pier (one that looks like a grill lol).
* Also I've mentioned it in the comments on your last video but not sure if you saw it, if you use your wishes to unlock the Oob-coop and build it, your Oobs can help you farm! Right now if you leave them at home they don't do anything, and you might want to have a team of 3-4 with you anyways. But if you're planning on a huge farm you might want to look into the oob-cop :)
* To fix up your house talk to the mayor, it should be one of the very first tasks she will offer you. After you fix the leaks, you can check out the furniture store for further upgrades and decorations. You can also pick up a chest there if you need further storage.
