    there is a simple explanation why a so affordable bass performs so well, ITS JUST NORMALLY PRICED! just because warwick or ibanez or fender or spectre or any other brand that charges an arm and a leg, doesn't mean that that is what a nice sounding instrument is worth. those said brands are getting a profit by selling a brand name. HB's are not 'cheap' or 'affordable' entry level instruments, they are cost effective quality instruments, im in love with my HBZ 2005, and trying out basses that cost over 600 pounds, i can say the 150 i paid for a used HB, and the time i put for a nice set up and restring, give me a sound and performance way better than those better brands

      @slightlyannoying3956 5 років тому +12

      You are very wrong. There are no words to describe how wrong exactly!
      There is a world of difference between a zero-advertised instrument and a brand name one.
      Also a difference between an instrument stocked in a single warehouse in large quantities and one shipped to a local store (i am talking about middlemen). How about the store's profit or even running costs for you to be able to test that instrument locally?
      How about the difference between an instrument made in some third world country (and equivalent manufacturing and worker costs) and an instrument made in europe or america?
      Have you seen the average price for a Cort branded instrument? Try subtracting the middlemen cost from that and tell me if it is the same as a harley benton at twice the quality.
      And that's without even talking about research and development included in a higher priced instrument, or even the cost for imported materials.
      Did you even try to think that no one had to take the risk of designing the harley benton instruments since they rely heavily on someone else's design?
      I get it, you love your HB bass, and so do i. But saying it is normally priced is a very naive statement.

      How they're priced so low:
      1. Slave labour
      2. Skip and starve local retailers
      3. Everyone else does the same but they've kept the old prices from when they used not to

    • @musicandfilms9956

      @@bacicinvatteneaca Local retailers don't exist any more around here in NE England (my town's last music shop closed in 2018). Buying online is the only way these days. I suspect that Fender, Gibson & Ibanez are just as likely to use local agents employing gig-hours labour well below minimum wage as is Harley Benton et al. It's a capitalist, profit-seeking industry like any other.

    You made me buy one, René!
    I was looking for an affordable 5 strings and I was blown away by your performance.
    For anyone looking forward to buy one:
    at the time I bought it (march 2020), it had a major projectation issue regarding the bridge, which it was too high and couldn't let me play with low action.
    I spent 80€ to fix it (my luthier carved a slot in the body for the bridge to have it lowered down) and now is the most comfortable bass I have ever played, with a nice tone too.
    This is also a perfect bass to upgrade to your taste, as the woods are wonderful and the instrument itself is surprisingly high quality.
    Keep on with the good stuff and best regards from Italy!
    EDIT: the low B string is fine, a little floppy sometimes but still with a nice punch and definition.
    The pickup-preamp combination is fine, not good as the Sire V7 (which is more or less in this price range), but it totally does its job.
    The Sire althought weights a lot more than this HB, even with neoprene straps.

    Harley Benton's are really good for the price. I bought a used HB p-bass for 70 euro, and with some new strings, and new tuners (the guy who i bought it from had replaced them with some crappy ones that barely turned and didn't hold tune) it sounds and plays great!

    I bought this bass one year ago and I was blown away. Because I had a very small budget and all my instruments far away in another country, this was my best option to have an all round bass. It is gorgeous and plays really well, I had that buttery feel that I felt with more expensive basses. The EQ works well, does the job, the neck is super comfortable. BUT The plastic used on the battery compartment is really brittle and broke while it was on a stand. It took the slight pressure of a finger to break it apparently. But that's easily replaceable. What was weird was that the control knobs were placed randomly and I still haven't changed them around because the volume is closer in the end to the hand and that's cool but when you have VOL TR BA TONE MED in that order it is sort of weird...
    then again
    Playing a 300 something euro bass that sounds like that and have this much fun with it... I really don't care about the rest. I hesitated at first because I thought it would be a bit crap but it really is awesome.

    • @neil___lien
      @neil___lien 5 років тому

      Hey there! I just got the 6 string version of the bass and am not sure about the controls. The push-pull knob, so the knob that's closest to the neck pick-up is the master volume, then the one that's below diagonally is the bass, then still going downwards diagonally is the treble. Now if U go horizontally following the neck through body axis, U have the mids and the last knob, the one next to the bridge is the balance. Do U confirm this?

  • @therealjackfisher

    I absolutely love the body work on this instrument. And the preamp buit in have a very wide range of sound possibilities. The price is also very atractive. And its a neck through.. Thought it was worth mentioning that Nato is basically a cheaper variant of mahogany. You see a lot of it on acoustic and classical budget guitars build in Asia. I have a vintage classical with a Nato neck, and I don't think it's not half as a tonewood.

    Nato wood is a collective name for wood from Mora trees, it is often referred to as "eastern mahogany", despite this, the two are unrelated. Because of its similar properties to more traditional tone woods like mahogany, many guitar manufacturers use nato in their construction

      Thanks for your reply... I did that first thing the bass arrived. I switched the included batteries with better ones... The problem happens mostly when I use the High-boost. It creates this sort of digital sounding distortion that doesn`t sustain long and gets abruptly cut. I`m not a bassist and this is my first bass and I also do not have experience with active electronics but is this somehow a desired effect? I really doubt it. I will get in touch with Thomann about it.

    Hello,
    Read somewhere that the volume knob was a pull/push to split the pick-ups, does it work well ?
    Thank you

    which one would you suggest, this one or the Harley Benton HBZ-2005 Deluxe Series? im thinking about playin around with bass, and i really like the look of those two, but i acctually like the wood finish on the hbz-2005 a lot more. it has single coils, while this one ( BZ.-5000 ) has Humbuckers. I really have no idea if this one is worth sacrificing the loook and the nearly 100 € that it costs more.

      I would rather buy bz5000 cause it has 3 band EQ and humbuckers. :)

    Thanks for such a fantastisch review. I've just bought this bass (4 string) today. I buy all my music equipment from Thomann. Given that I'm in Australia, the time frame for delivery is not the issue; what is, is the cost and the quality. I couldn't believe it when I found this bass on the Thomann website after doing a basic search filter. Super amazing, and all the reviews I've read absolutely rave about this bass guitar. I can't wait to get this and start playing this with the band. They won't believe what it cost me, even with the postage from Germany to Australia; who cares. Ciao.

      I guess at this time you already have the bass. Whats your opinion once you've played it for a while?
      I have ordered one yesterday.

      Hola Miquel.
      The HB is the best bass guitar I have ever owned. It plays well, smooth, fast, and technical runs are no longer an issue with such a smooth fretboard. The guys in the band love the punchiness of the pickups. This is the only bass guitar I play now (I have 6 bass guitars). This is also the guitar I use for teaching. Once the kids hear this they want to play for hours. Thanks Thomann for a great product and thank you HB for a great build and quality.

    I don't get as to why people are always commenting “Peavey Cirrus “bass in each and every video of these basses. I mean it's a Harley Benton bass and it doesn't really matter if it is copying any other brand because for the money what you are getting is a lot! Not a lot of brands do this nowadays

    • @Luthiart
      @Luthiart 3 роки тому +1

      For some reason, Harley Benton seems to catch a lot more flak for making copies of guitars and basses than other manufacturers. How many hundreds of Strat and Tele clones are out there on the market with nobody crying "foul" over it? Nobody calls shenanigans when ESP, or Dean, or Washburn make an LP/Flying V/Explorer/SG copy, either (well, except for Gibson, that is), but when Harley Benton does it, people act like it's shady, and equate the brand with Ali Express counterfeiters.

      @@Luthiart what flak? Harley Bentons entire brand is based on copying existing designs, that's just what it is. Some are excellent, some are crap. That's just how it goes

    Can someone measure the size of the pickups please. I would like to know if they are the same size as my bartolini MK1's that I have left over from an other bass build project.

    • @CC-ks3tj

      They would not be the same size. These seem much wider at the very least, can’t say for sure about the length. They have a shape closer to EMG’s.

      No buzzing. Very versatile tones. It might lack a bit of attack, when you distort it. I have my for 4 Years now.

    So here we have less than two minutes of an interesting instrument but more than 13 minutes of totally useless and baseless drivel. Dislike for stealing people's time.
