I wish entry level basses were this good when I started
Fkn seriously...
Yeah my hondo II bass was a bitch to okay
there is a simple explanation why a so affordable bass performs so well, ITS JUST NORMALLY PRICED! just because warwick or ibanez or fender or spectre or any other brand that charges an arm and a leg, doesn't mean that that is what a nice sounding instrument is worth. those said brands are getting a profit by selling a brand name. HB's are not 'cheap' or 'affordable' entry level instruments, they are cost effective quality instruments, im in love with my HBZ 2005, and trying out basses that cost over 600 pounds, i can say the 150 i paid for a used HB, and the time i put for a nice set up and restring, give me a sound and performance way better than those better brands
You are very wrong. There are no words to describe how wrong exactly!
There is a world of difference between a zero-advertised instrument and a brand name one.
Also a difference between an instrument stocked in a single warehouse in large quantities and one shipped to a local store (i am talking about middlemen). How about the store's profit or even running costs for you to be able to test that instrument locally?
How about the difference between an instrument made in some third world country (and equivalent manufacturing and worker costs) and an instrument made in europe or america?
Have you seen the average price for a Cort branded instrument? Try subtracting the middlemen cost from that and tell me if it is the same as a harley benton at twice the quality.
And that's without even talking about research and development included in a higher priced instrument, or even the cost for imported materials.
Did you even try to think that no one had to take the risk of designing the harley benton instruments since they rely heavily on someone else's design?
I get it, you love your HB bass, and so do i. But saying it is normally priced is a very naive statement.
How they're priced so low:
1. Slave labour
2. Skip and starve local retailers
3. Everyone else does the same but they've kept the old prices from when they used not to
@@bacicinvatteneaca Local retailers don't exist any more around here in NE England (my town's last music shop closed in 2018). Buying online is the only way these days. I suspect that Fender, Gibson & Ibanez are just as likely to use local agents employing gig-hours labour well below minimum wage as is Harley Benton et al. It's a capitalist, profit-seeking industry like any other.
Someday when you invent something and you can sell it for what you think its worth then you can charge wtf ever you want for it. See the comment above mine... If you hate having money then give it to someone that has less than you. Aka practice what you preach.
Yeah Harley Benton is better than Squier and epiphone 👍
The body shape put me to mind of the Peavey Cirrus.
exactly.....also PEAVEY Grind shape as well
That's true,,,also maybe a BTB too,,,
i think the original design is an ibanez tho.. not sure bout the model
Seeing the bassist in the beginning feel the music made me really happy. Cool bass!
I wish BassTheWorld make all model of Harley Benton bass demo. Love your video
when this here does well, the folks from Thomann want us to demo Harley Benton basses frequently. All of them seems a bit much ;) but I'm sure there will be more in future!
great.. thanks for made up affordable bass video
You made me buy one, René!
I was looking for an affordable 5 strings and I was blown away by your performance.
For anyone looking forward to buy one:
at the time I bought it (march 2020), it had a major projectation issue regarding the bridge, which it was too high and couldn't let me play with low action.
I spent 80€ to fix it (my luthier carved a slot in the body for the bridge to have it lowered down) and now is the most comfortable bass I have ever played, with a nice tone too.
This is also a perfect bass to upgrade to your taste, as the woods are wonderful and the instrument itself is surprisingly high quality.
Keep on with the good stuff and best regards from Italy!
EDIT: the low B string is fine, a little floppy sometimes but still with a nice punch and definition.
The pickup-preamp combination is fine, not good as the Sire V7 (which is more or less in this price range), but it totally does its job.
The Sire althought weights a lot more than this HB, even with neoprene straps.
I just change the tuners and this really improve the sound and obviusly the tuning
Harley Benton's are really good for the price. I bought a used HB p-bass for 70 euro, and with some new strings, and new tuners (the guy who i bought it from had replaced them with some crappy ones that barely turned and didn't hold tune) it sounds and plays great!
I am impressed, that a HB-Instrument does sound so nice!
Rene and the bridge pick up sound fantastic
I bought this bass one year ago and I was blown away. Because I had a very small budget and all my instruments far away in another country, this was my best option to have an all round bass. It is gorgeous and plays really well, I had that buttery feel that I felt with more expensive basses. The EQ works well, does the job, the neck is super comfortable. BUT The plastic used on the battery compartment is really brittle and broke while it was on a stand. It took the slight pressure of a finger to break it apparently. But that's easily replaceable. What was weird was that the control knobs were placed randomly and I still haven't changed them around because the volume is closer in the end to the hand and that's cool but when you have VOL TR BA TONE MED in that order it is sort of weird...
then again
Playing a 300 something euro bass that sounds like that and have this much fun with it... I really don't care about the rest. I hesitated at first because I thought it would be a bit crap but it really is awesome.
Hey there! I just got the 6 string version of the bass and am not sure about the controls. The push-pull knob, so the knob that's closest to the neck pick-up is the master volume, then the one that's below diagonally is the bass, then still going downwards diagonally is the treble. Now if U go horizontally following the neck through body axis, U have the mids and the last knob, the one next to the bridge is the balance. Do U confirm this?
I absolutely love the body work on this instrument. And the preamp buit in have a very wide range of sound possibilities. The price is also very atractive. And its a neck through.. For that price!!! WOW!!!! I need it! im not a bass player but I want this. I will play on it even tho I love guitars more.
15:34 min and still nobody knows how the B-string (really) sounds...
13:10 has 2 seconds of B-string :P also 13:50
@@Graoeye barely at all.. some muffled scratch rattle noise crap.
5:59 It's nice for everyone who doesn't like a huge bass-ball bat
Beautiful bass. I'd like to see you guys review the Harley Benton MB-5 SB, maybe compare it to the Sterling Sub Ray 4 or Music Man basses. Good stuff, thanks.
Thought it was worth mentioning that Nato is basically a cheaper variant of mahogany. You see a lot of it on acoustic and classical budget guitars build in Asia. I have a vintage classical with a Nato neck, and I don't think it's not half as a tonewood.
I would take this into a studio without a second thought. However, I like the truss rod adjustment wheel on The Enhanced MP5. Perhaps Thoman could blend the best of these two and save some production money. I also like the ebonite fingerboard!
Great review. Very balanced and fair, like the bass. I have the four string. Amazing and enjoyable bass for the money. I don’t need more than this. Thank you.
Hay great video! I have a £500 Ibanez and my Harley Benton bass player is nicer than the Ibanez just goes to show I think they actually charge what instrument is worth unlike all the other companies !
Nato wood is a collective name for wood from Mora trees, it is often referred to as "eastern mahogany", despite this, the two are unrelated. Because of its similar properties to more traditional tone woods like mahogany, many guitar manufacturers use nato in their construction
BTW: I just bought this Bass today....
How’s the weight in it? I’m curious last Harley Benton broke my back lol
@@richwagner174 I never received it, it was lost in the mail...
For an entry level bass it doesn’t “sound” like one. Tone is very mellow. I like it.😊
Hi. can you do the review to the Harley Benton MM-85A SB Deluxe Series please? Nice work.
wow the intro amazed me
A very good Review, thanks ...
Nice review! I would buy one if it was 35" scale, especially if it was available in fretless also...
Try for a Schecter bass, most of the 5 strings are 35” scales.
@@CC-ks3tj I have had two elites and three studio series schecter's...Thanks
@@Bass.Player I'm pretty sure it is, it says extra long scale in the specs
That beard is giant
finally took a normal review about the bass, about the normal, affordable guitar...and all the time making a video about what the space brands, for the price of a new car))))
Amazing intro piece. Wow
I know this is an older video, but is the beginning part from an actual song or is it an original composition by the player? I dig the solo he does.
That’s his original composition
I WANT ONE! Why did HB stop making this model?!?
It's a beauty!!!
awesome sound, and I love the bass wood on the body. nice vid. sweet sound.
smooth nice sounding bass ,,,
-reviewing a 5 string bass
-doesnt play the low B at all in the entire 15min video
Truly genious.
He did though! Just a bit after 13:30 mark!
Really nice playing at the start of this video. Is there some place to check out more of Rene's music?
Sure, there are tons of videos with René on this channel, but he also has an own one
Renee is one bomb ass bass player. And the beard. 👍🏼
René
Thank you for this. I don't play the bass yet (flutist), but maybe. Subscribed. Best Regards.
Wow! It is getting very hard to pick my next bass
Took me some time to remember what song that demo melody reminded me of - Kayleigh by Marillion of course :D
Pfffft, Chinese piece of ship!!!!!!!!! Lol jk my Harley Benton entry level bass is freaking exceptional, you could gig pro with it and it looks slick. I’m grateful to all who brought me my bass in the process from the makers to Harley Benton. In passive mode, it cooks pure goodness, in active it just heats up the signal with some boost that you don’t even need
Ohh I’m also grateful to however many people it went through to go from Germany to california in TWO DAYS! Amazing lol
The head stock has a flamed maple cap, there is no other flamed maple on the bass which is unusable but still great. This does not make it good or bad just different...
Is there push/pull for active passive?
Yes
Thank you
¡Hola!🙂 ¿Cuál te parece mejor? ¿Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass V o Harley Benton BZ-5000 II NT?
What is the finger spacing at the bridge?
please is there a passive position as somone says on thoman website ?
Wow
I've just bought this bass. I don't know if I've received it with a faulty electronics, but it is really noisy with treble in the nominal position, boosted is not playable so it works well only when I cut the treble. The mids knob doesn't seem to have any influence on the tone. Used passive it sounds brilliant. Any advice?
+helas46 get in touch with thomann
Same situation here and its utterly frustrating. I expected to have all this versatility with the tones I can get but all I seem to get are fart noises... Did you get in touch with Thomann? I`m already passed the return period and am regretting my purchase.
Baran Ozmen Try by changing the batteries.
I once had a problem with a Thomann bass and their service answered me fast. They are efficient and very careful.
They offered me to return the bass or to give me money because their was a tinny scratch on it. Speak to them.
Thanks for your reply... I did that first thing the bass arrived. I switched the included batteries with better ones... The problem happens mostly when I use the High-boost. It creates this sort of digital sounding distortion that doesn`t sustain long and gets abruptly cut. I`m not a bassist and this is my first bass and I also do not have experience with active electronics but is this somehow a desired effect? I really doubt it. I will get in touch with Thomann about it.
What does one of these basses weigh?
I guess Harley Benton doesn't make that BZ5000 or BX6000 any longer, that's very sad, was a killer bass.
Hello, I am going to buy one... €299 on the Thomann website, now called HBZ-2005.... 2004 for the four string 👍
Is it heavy for a 5-string bass?
What is the string spacing?
it is a shame that the neck pickup is so close to the neck, it makes a bit hard plucking while playing double thumbing technique!
a god like you
Does he ever play himself, the reviewer?
How is the setup out of the box? In the video it looks fairly low :)
Thomann has technicians who setup every harley benton bass before its shipped.
@@basstheworldofficial If
BEADG or EADGC tuning on this one ?

My Harley Benton BZ-4000 NT preamp was buzzing and scratching, then, just died today.🤔✌️
Are you trying to make me feel bad about my own bass playing? Because that's all you've accomplished here.
absolutely no B string was clearly heard in this review.. also no animals were harmed during the making of this production..
Peavey cirrus copy and hell why not.
Sorry, it is to heavy! The rest is so great about it!
Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass NATO auch schon bei Bässen mitmischt.
Those basses are discontinued. Sad.
Doesn't hurt to have a phenomenal musician demo the product and put it through $5k of post-ed equipment. lol
Why not play the B string, open or closed w the rest of the strings to hear it PLEASE???
It is a friggin 5 string right?
ua-cam.com/video/_KPySMJFIH8/v-deo.html
Nice Peavey Cirr- I mean... "Harley Benton BZ-5000"...
The Harley Benton basses, for which I own 2, makes you really think about the markup on a lot of the legacy brand name basses. 🤔
Do you own a Rolex? You can put a fake one rt next to a real one and you probably wont be able to tell the difference unless you know what to look for. Once the difference becomes obvious the price does too. Real gold, real jewels, weight, saphire and not glass, durability etc..
I'm REALLY curious to know about the quality, mostly the fretting work (cuz i know a guy who makes awesome bass electronics, so it's not an issue), how are your basses? i've read a lot of harley benton reviews and I'm almost convinced that they're amazing, but I'm not quite sure yet, are they worth it?
@@user-oq9js2tj1f I think competition is a little high in the bass making world and it appears to me Harley Benton is putting in the work to ensure good instruments. My fretboard is a little dry and the frets are sharp in places that don’t stick out on a few frets not a problem, I’ll work on the fretboard when I get a chance with oil and maybe five minutes of fret sanding, but I am playing the crap out of that thing lol the sound is great I love it. Also I got their cheapest six string, all things mentioned above are acceptable(edit:exceptional) for value
Der Flächsi hat den Groove derart in den Knochen, des is net normal.
Sorry man but we need more of the dude jamming!
I bought the 6 string version. Great deal for the price.
me too
Me too, and I think that the price is very fine for the sound!
Alex Blanco ive bought the 7 string version
an how is it ?
:)
How about the slap tone of the 6 strings version? Is it boom?
I know this review is a few years old, but Thomann continues to sell these basses, the problem is that they no longer have anything to do with it. The wood is different, it no longer has that wood on the back, it's no longer 18V, it's just 9V like the normal ones. Unfortunately, Thomann releases excellent basses and guitars at a good price but then the quality drops.
Imagine this with an OBP3 preamp...
Daaaaaaamn.... That intro song. Is this improvisation or an existing song?
hey, it was improvised. all the best, rene.
I love that you put on a beard and a hat when playing the bass :D
Hello,
Read somewhere that the volume knob was a pull/push to split the pick-ups, does it work well ?
Thank you
Oh that one sounds so tasty. Or better you make it sounds to tasty. Guess I need another bass.
why he never playing, just speaking?
which one would you suggest, this one or the Harley Benton HBZ-2005 Deluxe Series? im thinking about playin around with bass, and i really like the look of those two, but i acctually like the wood finish on the hbz-2005 a lot more. it has single coils, while this one ( BZ.-5000 ) has Humbuckers. I really have no idea if this one is worth sacrificing the loook and the nearly 100 € that it costs more.
I would rather buy bz5000 cause it has 3 band EQ and humbuckers. :)
René looks like a freekin' thief with that outfit lol
Loved the review and the demo
Still prefer my cort c5 plus
Rene plays Goddish
Thanks for such a fantastisch review. I've just bought this bass (4 string) today. I buy all my music equipment from Thomann. Given that I'm in Australia, the time frame for delivery is not the issue; what is, is the cost and the quality. I couldn't believe it when I found this bass on the Thomann website after doing a basic search filter. Super amazing, and all the reviews I've read absolutely rave about this bass guitar. I can't wait to get this and start playing this with the band. They won't believe what it cost me, even with the postage from Germany to Australia; who cares. Ciao.
I guess at this time you already have the bass. Whats your opinion once you've played it for a while?
I have ordered one yesterday.
Hola Miquel.
The HB is the best bass guitar I have ever owned. It plays well, smooth, fast, and technical runs are no longer an issue with such a smooth fretboard. The guys in the band love the punchiness of the pickups. This is the only bass guitar I play now (I have 6 bass guitars). This is also the guitar I use for teaching. Once the kids hear this they want to play for hours. Thanks Thomann for a great product and thank you HB for a great build and quality.
Love the Harley Benton! More HB demos please!
The knob configuration explained is not correct,at least in Americuh.

I don't get as to why people are always commenting “Peavey Cirrus “bass in each and every video of these basses. I mean it's a Harley Benton bass and it doesn't really matter if it is copying any other brand because for the money what you are getting is a lot! Not a lot of brands do this nowadays
For some reason, Harley Benton seems to catch a lot more flak for making copies of guitars and basses than other manufacturers. How many hundreds of Strat and Tele clones are out there on the market with nobody crying "foul" over it? Nobody calls shenanigans when ESP, or Dean, or Washburn make an LP/Flying V/Explorer/SG copy, either (well, except for Gibson, that is), but when Harley Benton does it, people act like it's shady, and equate the brand with Ali Express counterfeiters.
@@Luthiart what flak? Harley Bentons entire brand is based on copying existing designs, that's just what it is. Some are excellent, some are crap. That's just how it goes
You asked a lot of questions & demonstrated 0 of them. Bought the 4. Look out for my demo.
Can someone measure the size of the pickups please. I would like to know if they are the same size as my bartolini MK1's that I have left over from an other bass build project.
They would not be the same size. These seem much wider at the very least, can’t say for sure about the length. They have a shape closer to EMG’s.
do you think that bass handle the road?
absolutely!
Great review man....question does it hold tune well?....how are the tuners?
Looking forward for a 5 string, how it sounds in the hard rock/metal tones? The pickups have any buzzing sound
No buzzing. Very versatile tones. It might lack a bit of attack, when you distort it. I have my for 4 Years now.
are these still available?
too much speak too low on playing
? what is the finger spacing?
This one or ibanez sr505e?
Does anyone know if they ship to the US?
They do
AWESOME!
This bass is not available anymore? I tried to contact thomann to see what happened, but they dont answer me, im a little scared because im in love with this bass and i want it so bad
So here we have less than two minutes of an interesting instrument but more than 13 minutes of totally useless and baseless drivel. Dislike for stealing people's time.
